Looking really well that mate. Colour is shocking. In a good way though! But why must so many people on this forum quote such huge blocks of text and in this case pictures? I think the quote+reply button needs hiding!

Longboarder, I'm going to have a stab at it this weekend. I went in the garage before work but only had 5 mins til i had to leave. I work nights so i'm in work now (19.34) From what i can gather from the very limited test i just done was that if i turn ignition off (engine running or not) with the lights on then the ignition doesn't turn off. For SVA I'll make sure lights are turned off as soon as they are tested!! I'll do more fault finding if i get time as i had my build photos sent back from VOSA with a note saying they have passed on all my details to Chadderton testing station and to expect a call to arrange a test date. My car is going into the local college motor engineering dept on wednesday to have the tracking done, lights aligned and carbs tuned for emmisions test. so i don't want the loom in bits really. I was hoping there was a simple answer, but once it is SVA'd I'll have a proper stab at it. SPG, I am an ex avionics technician for the RAF, I worked on Jaguar, Harrier and Nimrod. I now work for BAe Systems in Warton on Typhoon Final assembly. I wire up the avioncs bays and make off end connections. Then do Full systems continuity testing and earth leakage checks.

I really really wish I never used the vivki green loom. it really is a load of rubbish. The diagram has had me so wound up over the years at it's complete uselessness. I am an aircraft electrician by trade so wiring is my speciality, but i decided on the VG due to it's promises of a fast solution to wiring the car. Well, it all works, but just found out the other day that if i leave the lights on and turn off the ignition, the engine stays running and i still have all electrics. I assume it is the relay for the lights staying latched but as the diagram shows fook all about where any wires go I'm hoping one of you has had this problem and know a quick fix. I don't have the time for fault finding due to my impending sva and the huge list of jobs still to do. Cheers fellas

I had the same problem. I done a quick google search and within 5 minutes I had it working. Google is your friend. Use it!!

I programmed my megajolt so that only when engine revs were above 400rpm the pump would start. It switches ground to a relay to start the pump. I rely on fuel left in the float chamber to start, if that fails i have a push switch to over-ride and pump fuel.

Just buy a load now! I remember when mk2 escorts were ten a penny in scrap yards, you will never see one there now. The future for kit car donors will be BMW, they are so so cheap now and good strong engines with rwd.

WD40 has been silicone free for the last 60 years. You are showing your age now Ian!

That is a total rip-off. No way on earth does it cost GM £100 to enter a code in their computer then send you a printout. And as for still charging if he cannot get the data, that is the biggest load of balls I've ever heard. What is this blokes name by the way? Ste

I used vacuum hose from an old Hoover. cut to length then an inch wide strip out, spray glue, cover with vinyl, aircraft grade silicone adhesive on the back, then taped in place to cure. looks good, covers all the rivet heads, and was cheap.

What is it with everyone on this site quoting HUGE blocks of text? Firstly Andy you are not the first and won't be the last person trying to date a vauxhall engine! There isn't really a way to prove your engine age as GM do not issue official proof from just the engine number. If you have the logbook from the engine donor that is ok. If not, find your engine number ( left side bell housing flange) the engine type code is stamped before the engine number. If it is C20XE you need a cat If it is a 20XE then you don't. Another way, but this isn't proof of the engine age, just the age of the head, is take the oil cap off, look in, there is a circle stamped into the cam bearing cap. mine is 90, meaning 1990. Another way is by the cam belt. early engines had round tooth belts later ones were square. You need to find out when they stopped making the round tooth engines and there is proof the engine was made before that date. Good luck!

I have a brian james A series car transporter. May be interested in a swap. Can you give me details. Age, condition, state of repair. Mine has just had new lights, bowden cables, brakes have been checked and are in perfect condition. has a winch, the middle has been decked out in 5 bar tread plate making it more versatile and easier to walk about on when loading. It is a twin axle, has a lockable strap box, ramps and fits a robin hood perfectly. This isn't my trailer but one similar. I will get pics if you need them.

Amateur build declaration arrived today. 13th March is final date they will accept this returned by. If it doesn't get accepted it is bye bye SVA and re-apply for an IVA.
-
Do it yourself. I got a map for my xe and it needed loads changing. An hour on a rolling road and you will be sorted.
-
I have it on good authority that this Friday is the closing date for SVA applications. After that, you will have to have IVA. This comes from Paul Jepson who is doing my paperwork. Hurry as Thursday is the last day you can post the forms off.

I'm interested, but what kind of price are you thinking for a bulk buy as it seems just as cheap to buy them straight off ebay? cheers

I like what Mark B said too. I have had an idea for a long time since i served on a warship. Let's hot-bed prisoners. They are constantly bleating on about overcrowding and giving prisoners early release when they should be locked away and punished. Firstly, get them out working. With the money it would save the government having this free labour, employ more guards. Give them shotguns and put the prisoners out to work, be it in pits or out on roads cleaning. whilst these are out working, get more prisoners in the now empty jail. When they have done their 12 hour shift they can get in the empty beds of the others who can now go out and work. If they step out of line, they get shot. We need to stop being so soft with these people. Granted, some are too dangerous to let out *, but the majority of the prison population can work. We can then make their sentences longer and really punish them. At the same time, we have instantly doubled the capacity of our jails. * If we brought back corporal punishment most of these would be killed off anyway. Why the *bleep* should we keep alive child rapists and murderers? what good comes from keeping these sick people alive?

i used some stuff by a company called PRC DeSotto, it is used to seal the fuel tanks on the eurofighter. We had a load of it that the date had expired in work and subsequently got binned so i took a few kits home. it is everything proof, sets anaerobiclly and remains slightly flexible. if you can find any of that on the web then it is by far the best. it is a 2 pack compound and is superior to any other method of sealing anything! ProSeal 890 Class A P/S 890 Class A is an aircraft integral fuel tank sealant. It has a service temperature range from -65°F (-54°C) to 250°F (121°C), with intermittent excursions up to 275°F (135°C). This material is designed for brush and fay sealing of fuel tanks and other aircraft fuselage sealing applications. The cured sealant maintains excellent elastomeric properties after prolonged exposure to both jet fuel and aviation gas. P/S 890 Class A is a two-part, manganese dioxide cured polysulfide compound. The uncured material is suitable for application by brush in thickness up to 25 mils. It cures at room temperature to form a resilient sealant having excellent adhesion to common aircraft substrates. A lot of people associate this chassis design to Ron Champion but it is actually Colin Chapman who designed it. Ron merely copied it to near enough exact design. It is the same design as a the cateram and westfield chassis. I have built 2 of those chassis now and they are very stiff and super light too. I had a pic of me holding it above my head with one arm, try doing that with a 2b chassis!!

As a project a few years ago when i was a trainee in the RAF i designed and built a circuit that would receive the signal emitted from a radar and resend it with a delay after the first 2 pulses then a pre-emptive pulse from the unit to give the 'enemy' radar a false idea of velocity. This kind of thing is in use on military aircraft to prevent radar guided anti-aircraft guns from getting a lock on the target. Of course this only works on Doppler radar (which the police use) and it could easily be used to trick the police speed gun into thinking you were doing a different speed than what you actually are. one major problem is as well as making you seem slower, it also makes you seem faster to add confusion. so really it could get you in a lot more trouble. One day i may dig it out and have a play at making a unit that fools the revenue cameras (sorry, speed cameras) but until then, i just don't speed. no radar jammer can stop kids from misjudging your speed and running out into the road.

Got mine from a bloke called Martin Millener. He can be contacted via the autosportlabs forum. All in it costs abot £150 to get it in and then a proper mapping session at a rolling road. It can be done with a gas analyser too but not as good. just make sure you mount it on anti-vibration mounts or the board will last a year till it falls apart. I opted for the TPS as opposed to the MAP sensor for engine load is it is more accurate with multiple carbs, unless you build a reservoir for the vacuum. ste

go the local scrap yard and cut the bits off coolant hoses.
