Hi all someone please ahead some light on theses numbers.

my rh looks as if its got a 2l pinto sierra lump but im having alot of issues with it.

The numbers i can find don't make any sense. Under the exhaust manifold it says UB38818 on a machined surface but under it says 70HM6015BA with 2.0 above it . On the bell housing mount also under the exhaust manifold i have 2 letters of NA.

The only markings i can find on the head is 7C above the exhaust manifold along side the rocker cover.

the original ford technical data say its a type b engine.

can anyone confirm this? I searched online, burtons ect and nothing matches.

Any guidance would help. I would post pics but the tablet wont let me

UB38818 is the original engine number and is from September 1978 ( http://www.burtonpower.com/tuning-guides/tuning-guide-pages/ford-manufacture-dates.html ) so not a Sierra engine, most likely Capri or Cortina.

2.0 shows it's a 2 litre

70HM6015BA is the casting number of the block which doesn't tell you anything.

Not sure about the 7C on the head, but I'm pretty sure it won't originally have been unleaded (but might have been converted). Safest to assume it's not suitable for unleaded and use fuel additive or just put up with some valve recession.

What issues are you having - there's always a solution.

Ok thanks. I was running ok then yesterday it wouldn't fire, turned over fine had spark ect and fuel. It did fire on full choke and throttle then died.is a capri engine still a pinto? The ford data book says its a type b i found the engine code which should be 3 diigits but i only have 2 which is NA. Did doesn't look like a cortina engine in other pictures iev found. Also the engine number on the vin doesn't match anything iev found .

If you do find its an old leaded head, don't panic. I ran a 2.1 with a leaded head for about 10 years. I changed to a unleaded head when I needed to change the valve stem seals. The old head showed no sign of wear on either the valves themselves or the valve seats. I would put in some addative when I remembered.

Just had a expert who races pintos, turns out it is a cortina engine with a weird and random weber carb which is shot. So now on the hunt for a weber 32/36 twin choke. Any for sale? Thanks for the help guys glad i jointed now.

Pintos were 1st used in mk2 escorts and mk3 cortinas forward.

if it says 20 on the block its pre sierra.205 is a sierra or mk3 granada era.

carbs shouldnt be too difficult to find.

try gumtree.locost builders and turbosports forums too

Don't forget the Transit used the Pinto as well all be it in low compression form.

So you have

Transit

MK 2 Escort

MK 3 - 4 - 5 Cortina

MK 2 - 3 Capri

MK 1 - 2 - 3 Granada / Scorpio

P100 Pick up

It must have been the most used engine through ranges ever, even my old favorite the cross flow didn't manage this many.

Yes , used on a variety of engines. The problem I'm having is that I'm doing a full rebuild and I have a Sierra Haynes manual, but my engine code NE is not covered by that manual so I starting to think it may be a Cortna engine. Will the Sierra torq settings be OK to use?

Thanks again for all the replies, much appreciated.

Andy
