  1. Today
  2. Bore is not 100% I've gone for a dual outlet 3/4" one, need to make an adaptor plate & run new lines, we'll see how it goes.
  3. If you give your location there may be someone local who could help?
  4. If the bore is ok can you get some seals for it?
  5. Another nice day for the East of England group. Weather superb, location lovely and a nice run in the cars for everyone. Thanks to all who supported it.
  6. Very good point! i was thinking along the lines of preventative maintenance but in reality your right, i’ll leave as is for now and replace it in the future! thanks again for all the advice on this
  7. Great run out to Charity Farm, Ian and I met up, walked around the plethora or cars there and chatted the finer detail and stories with some proud owners add to that a brew and some great weather. It is a great venue for us to meet up at and use the time to plan in some NW activities. Perhaps see some more members next time? have fun Darrell
  8. If the pump works why replace it? I am sticking to E5.
  9. Thanks so much for this information! extremely helpful to know this kind of thing. so just to clarify, i’m okay leaving the fuel pipe and injectors as is for now? i’ll change the pump as it’s getting on for nearly 38 years old and i’ll remove the flow damper at same time. will i need to remap the fuel injector settings to run e10? Once again thanks for all the advice

  11. Yesterday
  12. I'll repeat what I said on your FB post; having a screen without wipers is worse than no screen at all. So you might pass your MOT but if you dont/can't fit wipers (you don't need demisters, I've got through MOTs without them), then leave the screen off and fit an aero screen and wear a helmet. My wipers stopped working on a day out when it started raining and I couldn't see a thing, I literally had to lean out the car to see. You'd think the airflow would blow the water off a little but I think because our screens are flat, that just doesn't happen.
  13. Need more detail; what engine, when does the noise happen (at idle, revving etc), does it change as you rev? I had something like that a few years back - this post below lists some tests that will help: https://zerolifebuild.blogspot.com/2018/08/not-under-pressure.html
  14. Never seen it done but the MX5 column one is quite straight forward, alternatively you might be able to mount the MX5 column switchgear on the Sierra column the only issue might be the self cancelling, it would make sense to use the full MX5 electrics
  15. Picked up a complete 1.6 MX5 Mk2 today - seems like a good low mileage engine. Im fairly confident on the engine/box mounting (not saying I think its going to be a breeze). Has anyone fitted the steering column from the MX5. The cortina one is in place and works, theres a bit of play, but I was thinking I could move the stalks ignition etc over from the MX5 and connect up to the cortina rack.
  16. Thought that I better check some other factors. Ethanol has a petrol equivilency of 1.5. What does this mean? To totaly replace petrol you need to pass 1.5 times as much ethanol in order to keep stoichiometric combustion i.e. burning all the oxygen passing through the engine and is so doing providing almost 1.5 times the power. This is the reason that older cars cannot run on E10 or higher fuels without remaping the injector settings or rejetting the carb. More modern cars use the lambda sensor to track the ethanol content and make adjustments on the fly.
  17. Love the colour, keep up the good work, it’s great to follow your journey
  18. Copper pipe is not compatible with ethanol, you get away with E5 or E10 but when higher E numbers appear replaceing with ethanol safe pipe will be needed so check for suitability when buying. The injectors should be good. The corrosion is caused by the water content in the fuel, ethanol absorbs water from the air and the combination atacks some rubbers and copper alloys. The best way to limit water in fuel is to run the car so the water is consumed by the engine burning the petrol before to much water is absorbed.
  19. Okay thanks, to be honest the only reason i am considering changing the pump is because of the E10 fuel, do you think the current pump (from 1986) would be compatible with today’s fuels? if so i might just change out the dated fuel lines and call it a day! also on the topic of e10 does anyone know if the fuel injectors would need to be changed?? many thanks!
  20. Looks as though it is the same pump as you already have but without its anti vibration rubber jacket.
  21. Thank you for the help! I’ve attached screenshots of the pump I’ve found, so you think it’ll be compatible? many thanks for all the help so far!
  22. the kits didnt have vin numbers allocated. the dvla gave you one or you made up your own. in the uk it is 17 characters assorted letters and numbers. if you got the uk v5 (log book) with the car the vin no will be in there. then you can stamp that on your chassis.
  23. I think that you should be OK without it. Later pumps dont pulse as much.
  24. Yes it is, I believe its a 2.0 litre.
  25. Is it running a fuel injected Pinto engine?
  26. Thanks for that information! I have been looking around and couldn’t find much information about it so you’ve done much better than me! off the top of your head do you know if this will need to be retained if the fuel pump is replaced? I have found a bosch out of tank pump that seems to be a suitable replacement but it just seems to be the pump unit and not the flow dampener! any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated!
