Weighing The Car, Part Ii

Shaft

Or 1 wheel on the scales and the other 3 on blocks the same height as the scales.

just to add to the fun, i agree with the above statement. the sum of all the points on the ground has to equal the total weight. there is no other option.

ok its easier if its on one big scale but if you put the car on 4 scales they must add up to the total. agreed? SO if you swap 3 of the scales for blocks it doesn't change anything, the pressure on the blocks is still the same as if they were scales. you can then swap the scale around and take each weight and it should equal the total weight.

The only way it would be wrong is by not having it consistantly level as this would shift the weight, the same as if you carry something between a few people and you lift your end higher (always fun for the person the other end).

ducks and runs for cover....

I cant believe you guys,

you cant even get a simple equation right, and you forget to add gravity, and we all know the higher up the country the greater the force pushing down on the car, Hence the scottish being tight, as the pennies in their pockets cannot be reached by hands,

Also make sure the other 3 pieces of wood are of the same density as this will only confuse the person wieghing the car,

Has nick also leveled his floor, if the front of the car is higher above sea level than the rear then the scales could implode with the pressure difference.

All factors when wieghing stuff.

Well, it helps anyone who needs a tree full of lemons.

The extra G in Scotland making the Scots tight is rubbish as it makes their arms grow longer so they can reach their pennies. They're just tight.

Why do the bathroom scales read different if you stand them on the lino or the carpet?

And why do manufacturers of electronic scales make them switch off after a few seconds so weighing something slowly is so difficult?

And why have I still got lino in the bathroom?

Maybe too sensible an answer for this post --- carpet reads less than lino (what date on papers underneath)because some of the weight is taken by the pad around the strain guage foot; or lino is not such a good insulator (of heat or gravity)

No, carpet is softer, therefore you feel more relaxed. Obviously when you are relaxed you weigh less, sorry I mean your mass is less. Gravity remains at 9.81m/s2 ( or there abouts.)

That said, if you can stand to carry the extra mass about then Lino if far better in a bathroom than carpet. When you take your trousers off and various washers/nuts fall out it is easier to find them.
