Not only do individuals from the emergency services get involved in these sorts of discussions but also the services themselves are very media savvy and I wouldn't put it past the police to have a look through any sort of motoring websites where somebody may put their hand up to an offence. Cambridgeshire fire and rescue service have one person in their control room who monitors their Facebook page all the time beside their normal job and you wouldn't believe the things people put on there. I don't use it myself but my wife does to see where I have cleared off to and for how long I am going to be gone. Then she can decide whether to put my dinner in the oven or in the dogs!

Yes welcome. As Stuart says does look like a series 7. I should know, spent enough time under or in mine. You will have fun with that. Your priorities are bang on, get it road legal and then on the rolling road. Then drive it and plan your modifications for next winter!

I certainly don't go out in the wet if I have the choice, it's only if I get caught out at a show as I don't even have a surrey top.

I've got federal 595 rsr and they are very grippy in the dry being not that far from a cut slick. Tippy toes in the damp though.

17 inch is a bit big for a seven type car isn't it? I am on 15 rather than the 14 that it came on purely because of availability of different tyres. 14 inch virtually nothing, 15 anything you want. Lots cheaper on 15 too.

Ebay, loads on there when I looked. Not very expensive either

Just crossed another of my jobs off by leaving my car with red 7 engineering to have a tie bar conversion done. I may have to do some jobs around the house over easter now!

Don't forget if you do something that is not on the list, write it in at the bottom and then cross it off. Thats what my wife does.

I'm afraid you are going to have to pull those carb's to bits. After all that time standing they are probably gummed up. I had the same problem with my weber 45s and I carefully broke them down, cleaned them out and then blew the rest of the muck out with an airline. You can buy the rebuild kits quite cheaply, they come with all the gaskets you need, needle valves etc. I have quite a good book that covers weber and dellortos which gave me a bit of confidence to tackle the job. Not sure exactly what the problem with mine was but the rebuild cured it.

Might get away with only driven on Sunday's though.

Micks right but thinking back all the years in which I have driven I have only had two tyres which were unrepairable and they were on trailers. I too carry no spare but have a can of foam tucked behind the seat and my AA card in my pocket.

The list for great gransden airshow is now open you can print off an entry form from their website. This is on the 28th of august. Don't miss out as with the changes in charges that the CAA are making it might be the last one. They do have limits on numbers and the list fills up fast. The Peterborough classic and vintage show is on the 3rd and 4th of September and you can register online. Not much in the way of vintage there last year but there was a good mix of cars, the organisers reckoned there was 500 cars over the two days. There was however a lot of spectators as it is free entry. Not much danger of this one being oversubscribed as they have a massive area available.

As time goes on it becomes more and more unclear which way to vote for me. I was thinking that although I was unhappy with being ruled by twenty odd other nations it would probably be best to stay in due to the chaos that was bound to occur if we left. But as somebody has said ,would you join now? The definite answer to that one is no. Maybe if we left we would have better control of our borders for a start. We simply can't take any more people, there's not enough housing and the health service is near to meltdown. Not that ive got anything against foreigners, I bet there isn't one person on here, me included who hasn't got some non English blood in them from Vikings, Saxons and Normans etc. While we have a couple of million unemployed who draw benefits and open borders for everybody to cross we will always be in a mess. That's my main gripe with the EU. Time for a change I think

Doesn't work that way for me janis. I have several in bits and nothing roadworthy at the moment.

I drove home from the gransden air show in quite heavy rain with no roof on and the only bit of me that got wet was my right leg where the water came off the front wheel, crept up the side of the car and came over the sill. I put the car in the garage straight away and checked the inside of the car and it was quite dry, most of the water blows straight up the screen and over the car. Would have been a different matter if i had been stationary in traffic though. There are now a pair of mudflaps waiting to be fitted in the garage, these should help stop stones being thrown around too. The others are right, get all the other stuff done first and then decide if you do need the wet gear as it involves a lot of expense. A good coat would probably be a better idea!

You will be surprised how quick they feel. For a start they are low to the ground and weigh next to nothing. Handling is better on some models than others, most people carry out some kind of modification to their cars to improve either handling or power. Mine put out around 150 hp on the dyno and that is a standard vauxhall redtop witn twin webers and basic ignition but the power to weight ratio makes it feel like something much more powerful, I think it is quicker to sixty than the civic type R I had and by a good margin but then it only weighs half as much! It is a much more raw type of motoring, not for everybody but I love it. Roll on warm weather or April whichever comes first.

Just google lambda sensor safe sealant, I just did and several came up. I did know that silicone sealant could kill sensors if you used it on the exhaust but there seems to be a school of thought that using it on rocker covers or elsewhere in the engine can have the same effect. Not that it is a problem for me my car is way too old school for that to be an issue. If you can find a silicone sealant that is sensor and cat safe then it is much better than that white stuff that crumbles out of the joint as soon as it cures

To be fair there can't be much left of the original car but it makes you wonder how much time and effort is put into hounding people to get there cars re registered or taxed. Waste of money in my opinion when there hundreds of thousands of scroats driving around in untaxed, uninsured vehicles without mots. Money would be better spent chasing these. Insane performance in that vauxhall though.

Take a sweet from the jar! The big screwdriver did it in the end as a spanner wouldn't fit over the nut because it was too close to the bottom of the box section. I had to take the steering rack off to get at it though and then i could actually see what I was up against. A very long bolt with a nyloc nut on the end. In the end just to get it undone and the coil over out I had to remove the nose cone side panel, steering rack, bottom nose cone panel and if I want to get the bolts right out to replace with new ones , which would be ideal I will have to take the radiator out too. I did take the spring off in the end to check the size of the cups the spring sits in, I put spring compressors on it to reduce the pressure but still couldn't undo the nut as I didn't have a spanner big enough so I used an oil filter chain wrench and a pair of water pump pliers to hold the damper body while I turned it and it came off first try!

Morris marina alternator fits 101 forward control land rover. When I was re building mine after the army had robbed all the spares they had needed from it and cast it I would go to the unipart counter armed with my land rover part number. There were a couple of really helpful chaps on the counter who would quite happily search them out for me. Many of the parts came from the BL rover group parts bin which is not surprising but they were about a quarter of the price, coming in a unipart box instead of a land rover one. Any parts not available from there I would try to find second hand if I could as the prices charged to the army by land rover were astronomical. The ones that spring to mind were a rotor arm which was ten pounds but came in a pack of fifty which they wouldn't split and a 24v alternator which was 3500 odd quid! This was is in the early nineties so god knows what they would be now. Got a second hand one recently for 65 pounds. Oh and spark plugs were about fifteen pounds each then unless you knew where to look, I still have a big box picked up from an auto jumble for 50p each.

That had occurred to me but I tried to remove one with no luck. I'm off down the garage in a minute to flood it with penetrating fluid so it can have a good soak until sunday when it will be coming off one way or another. I'll keep you posted.

I don't think it would be too hard to remove the rack, I can get at the bolts easily enough. The trouble is I am still not sure if I can get at the nuts without taking off all the nosecone side panels. I tried to take some photos but they didn't come out very well. I think I am inclined towards this route though. Taking the mounting bolts for the rack off may even give me enough movement to get a spanner into the box section.
