  1. Not sure the cat is relevant here ? Like you I assume it is the CO we are talking about which needs to be below 0.3 As I understand it the CO level is to do with the mixture which should be controlled by the lambda sensor. The purpose of the cat is to clean up the hydrocarbons and they were not mentioned. I agree we need a lot more detail. As an aside, having struggled with emissions during the early years, I blocked one of my exhaust outlets (a Superspec-specific design, not relevant to a normal 2B) then every year I add an injector cleaner to the fuel tank one fill up before the MOT and do a 40 min run just before the MOT, doing it all in 3rd gear so the revs sit around 4000+ rpm. It's worked for the last 3 years, with straightforward passes
  2. And very relaxing it was too, just watching the boats and chatting (it was at the junction of the Grand Union and the River Nene'). Now the weather seems to have started to settle down we intend to make the most of it. Our next meet will be next Wednesday lunch time. We haven't decided where to go yet, so it will be a surprise
  3. Weather has been against us for the last few days but it looks to be getting better. So for a first one we are going to go for a picnic lunch at a village called Wadenhoe on the River Nene on Tuesday . Anyone that wants to join us let me know.
  4. I would have to disagree with that I think. The fan is there to prevent the engine overheating, so my logic would be that you want to be monitoring the hottest part of the system. Otherwise you could be getting cylinder head damage while the output from the bottom of the radiator is still within limits. So I have my switch in the top hose. However I have to admit that the original switch on the Superspec was built into the bottom of the radiator (it uses a rad from a Rover SD1), so maybe I’m talking rubbish
  5. That was how it was designed by the original owner You are right of course which is why some keen owners fit auxiliary electrically driven water pumps as well. to maintain circulation while the fan is running. I have found by experience that it seems to cool off a bit quicker if the fan stays on for a bit even though it is only the radiator being cooled, but maybe I am imagining it. So it's really personal choice, but if you go to a kit car meet and line up with the others you will find quite a few of them are gently humming to themselves long after the owner has left.
  6. I had an incident where I turned on the override switch and the dash light came on but unknown to me the fan did not turn on. Luckily it was cold day so I didn’t actually need it. So make sure you wire it so it actually tests for the fan running and not just that the switch works. My fan has a permanent 12V feed and a switchable earth and the 12V supply had failed. But the light had a separate 12V supply so came on when the earth switch was made. You also need to decide if you want the fan to run on after the engine has stopped (This is what I have). If so then it is a direct battery to fan feed. If not then the 12V feed needs to come via the ignition switched 12V supply and will then probably have to operate via a relay.

It’s come already. My local Sainsburys has changed over. Interestingly it’s price for super, which is still E5, is about the same as other garages are charging for ordinary unleaded, which is E10, so I shall probably still go (I have a Rover engine so there is no guidance)
  8. It's now going to be 1200pm on Wednesday 30th at Eyebrook Reservoir. Nothing to do there, just sit and admire the view, have lunch and talk about kit cars. very relaxing
  9. Depends on whether the lights are operated by a pressure switch in the brake line or a mechanical switch on the brake lever itself. Either of them could have failed 'on', or when it happened to me the mechanical switch had simply moved slightly, leaving the brake light on.
  10. The next outing is planned for 29th or 30th June. Haven't decided where to go yet, looking for inspiration. Any ideas ? Anyone want to join us ?
  11. And what a cracking day it was. We each drove between 45 mins and 75 mins in glorious weather (So 100 miles round trip for me and a bit of a challenge to my cooling system but it coped). Sywell was very busy with the Spitfire giving rides (From £2700 for 30 mins !!), the Blades Display team doing a flying experience day, along with a T6-Texan (Harvard to us Brits), a Tiger Moth and a multitude of small planes, helicopters and a microlight to watch while picnicking And a lovely little free museum rounded off the day. We managed to park so there were 4 classic machines in shot (5 if you include the Jetstream) Socially distanced of course
  12. I suppose there are a very limited number of Bank Holiday weekends they can use. It clashes with the Stamford Car Show as well. I will try and do Stoneleigh on the Saturday and Stamford on the Sunday
  13. A bit of a late call but we suddenly found a nice day when our core members are available. So we are going to visit Sywell Aviation Museum this Wednesday (16th). Anyone who fancies joining us is welcome, 1200 pm, bring a packed lunch and a chair
  14. Surely it is a requirement to have it on the V5, and notify and produce appropriate documentation to DVLA if it is changed ?
  15. I know this won't really help, but as I had my Superspec on axle stands I took the opportunity to take a picture of the clutch arm on my MT75. As you can see there is nothing like the obstruction you have and mine has full travel available (no idea what the audio cable is wrapped around the cable, I will have to investigate ) I can only assume that your clutch pressure plate is a lot wider than the one fitted to the Superspec (Rover T16 engine). I can't help you on what model clutch I have as Superspecs seem to odd. We had assumed Rover, but some have reported Ford and one owner who is presently stripping his down says the clutch has a Mazda part number. I should also note that I have a spare gearbox and the clutch arm on that is totally different to the one on my car.
  16. Have you put a diode in the circuit ? If not the light could come on slightly if the alternator voltage is more than the voltage feeding the other side of the bulb. Normally they should be the same but depending on where the feed from the light comes from there could be a slight difference.
  17. Looks as though the Stamford Car Show is planned to go ahead this year on the August Bank Holiday Sunday (29th). Fingers Crossed. As usual we should have a parking slot allocated for Club Members. Those of us who have been before should get an invitation code (mine has just arrived). For other people it is first come first served. They limit it to 500 cars (I think it used to be 300) but I would recommend booking early. It is technically free but they 'strongly' recommend a £5 donation to charity, which is collected by a chap at the entrance on the day. They also do a car rally during the morning but that is for very limited numbers and fills up quickly. We don't normally bother. Check out http://stamfordcarshow.co.uk/

  19. They also like photos of the safety critical areas they can’t immediately see. Lower seatbelt mounts are a favourite.
  20. I can see no reason why you want to fit a windscreen for the IVA. You have to sort out wipers, heaters, washers... Much easier to do all that after the test without the added hassle. Just my opinion
  21. Good video, well worth viewing. Just be aware he uses the term ‘tie rod’ whereas we us the term ‘track rod’.
  22. Mine was £40 Money well spent though as I won’t have to buy 2 new tyres in the near future. Had to take mudguards off though, as he couldn’t get his kit to go in above the wheels. Should also point out that Halfords refused to do it. Computer wouldn’t accept Robin Hood as a manufacturer and he wasn’t able to manually override it.
  23. There is no exact answer but the general concensus on the forum has always been that you can't go far wrong with parallel with maybe a slight bias to toe-in if necessary. I was always used to measuring toe-in in degrees, but like the manual, my garage quoted it in mms. Mine was a 10mm out, whatever that means, now reduced to zero.
  24. Weather not being kind to us so far so had to call off the last one. Weather might be OK on Sunday but my daughter and family are coming to stay for the first time in 15 months, so they will have to take precedence Will look again for the last week of the month.
  25. Same here. I started to see excessive wear on the outside of the front tyres so had it checked at the local garage. Like you I had too much toe-in. Now corrected, and although my self centering was OK before, now it is quite aggressive and I have to keep a lot of pressure on the steering wheel during turns. But now extremely stable in a straight line. Just have to keep an eye on the tyre wear to make sure it is fixed.
