    Buying A Robin Hood

Paul ... I reckon mine's about 1800mm ... not with me at the moment, so can't check just yet. So long as your garage isn't on a slope ... push it in, pull it out ... or sleep in it!! Mine spends its life under a car cover, on the drive - and survives.

    Buying A Robin Hood

Best place to see more Robin Hoods than you could dream of, will be at: The National Kitcar Motor Show held at Stoneleigh (nr. Kenilworth) 1st and 2nd May. It's a long way for you to travel up but the advice and support you will get from club members will be invaluable! I would suggest stopping overnight Sunday before leaving about midday Monday. More often than not, some club members have their cars up for sale. There will be other 'independent' members who will check the cars over and give you sound advice. It is WELL worth a day out (or two) ... many of us camp on site overnight, so you could enjoy a 'drink or two' if you are that way inclined! Alan p.s. you are more than welcome to drive mine around to see what you think and you will get other offers - if nothing else you can see how well you fit into the cars!
  3. Should I be embarrassed or insulted ... It's the clothing I wear all the time!!

    Oh-Er

Good for you !!! I'm all for it ... easy for me to say, as I haven't a car at the mo' ... But when it's better ... it will be so much better!! ...
  5. Well, I'm back home and my car is snuggled up in steamer's garage ... it thinks it's Christmas! What a difference the reception I received at Richard's to one that I would have received at a garage, had I taken hoodie to a garage for repair instead. I can imagine at a garage I would have been met with: a VERY sharp intake of breath, rolling eyes, a slow shaking of the head and a calculator being produced, and used to create an 'unrecognisably' large sum! Richard removed the bonnet, studied the damage, nodded and said ... "Ah yes, I can do that - it's not as bad as I expected. That'll be straight forward." Fan bl**dy tastic ... thought I !! Thanks to all for advice - and for pointing me towards steamer - I'm going to be one happy bunny ... well according to the shops Easter is just around the corner.
  6. So is my used chewing gum not needed now? It's under the seat if you change your mind!
  7. The repairs are being carried out by Steamer ... quality of repair ... totally/definitely 'not in question' ... Providing no diary clash ... you can all see the work carried out when I'm at Stoneleigh this year.
  8. If, as you imply, the car is dangerous and should be taken off the road - there is no way I would do a 'quick repair' and pass the vehicle on to someone else! My children and grandchildren have enjoyed trips in this car and any repair carried out will be to a standard higher than the original build quality. In this instance I know the repairer probably has higher standards than even me. I don't think you really meant your post to read as it does - if you did then I would never buy a car from you! Sorry if this sounds rude, I'm sure you didn't mean to sound callous.
  9. Thanks Robert, I remember your tale of the mobile welder and your initial fear of him attacking your car 'with gusto' ... and then how pleased you were with his work. Many thanks to all of you for your suggestions, analysis, advice, support, references and links - all of which will assist me in deciding my next move in trying to keep my 'Hoodie' on the road. It may well be a slow, and not inexpensive, journey, but I would prefer to take it if I can, rather than reduce the Robin Hood family by one member. Any further suggestions/advice will be gladly received - thanks to you all. Alan
  10. Just returned from a spin, where I was allowing my son to get used to driving the car again ... he has little opportunity usually. As I drove back, the car pulled hard to the right ... nothing to do with my son's driving earlier I hasten to add! Parked up ... and Oh dear!!! ... see photos. Must have had a fracture - but hadn't seen it, now a bloomin wide tear!! Oh cripes!! Is this terminal or repairable? Front offside. Robin Hood Series III monocoque - built 1997

    Terminal?

    Oh dear ...
  12. The title says it all ... And .. Wishing you all a happy and prosperous 201seven ...
  13. Just returned to 'Brownhills motorhomes' in Newark. Now full of GBS homemade cake, miniature christmas pud, biscuits and fudge cake, plus coffe! I think I have managed to cover you all. Nice visit through both the showroom/workshop and around the machine shop - excellent visit. Thanks GBS.
  14. In Newark this weekend, so intend to make my first visit tomorrow. Looking forward to it. Will 'claim' the mincepies for you guys unable to get there!
  15. Certainly planning to come again this coming year, last year was my first visit and for anyone who hasn't been yet ... GO! Great fun, camaraderie, food, drink and entertainment. Plus stalls and sellers where odd bits and pieces can be picked up, plus opportunity to speak with kit car insurance specialist companies ... a-plan certainly sorted out a problem for me. For those who haven't been before, don't leave arriving until the afternoon of the last day, as that is when everyone is busy clearing up - come early. The Rhocar field was full of club vehicles last year, I was amazed at how many 'of us' there are around. 'Stole' many good ideas from different owners and cars whilst there, as to modifications and personal improvements to vehicles. It also made more sense of forum comments and views. Also Rhocar 'goodies' available ... not just burgers and drinks!! Last year we met up with other guys for a massive breakfast before we headed in convoy to Stoneleigh ... filled me up for the day!! Looking at the cost for entry, I hope it doesn't put the general public off attending.
  16. Perfect link ... many thanks Bob.
  17. Many thanks for all the above ... It now makes complete sense to me ... Will see what best suits my 'hood'.
  18. 'Scuse my ignorance and my unfamiliarity with the terminology ... I like the idea, thanks ... but are you guys referring to a drop catch (antiluce) fastener? If so, I think buying a couple is a great idea. Ta.
  19. Unfortunately, I don't get to 'escape' as often as I would choose ... five grandchildren (amongst other committments) keep me too busy - especially at weekends. Will keep an eye on all your suggestions and links, and maybe .... some day ... Cheers Alan.
  20. Hi Alan ... Didn't realise it was your car ... Should have hung around longer! Not as varied an event as Stoneleigh but worth organising as a RHOCaR event/meet??
