The question really is why would you not
  2. Never seen one like that before, how do you stop the valve moving down when you compress the spring?
  3. Comfort over weight, I'll go with comfort everytime, if I felt my car would benefit from losing a few pounds to make it quicker, I would go on a diet. When my lad was 18/19 he was into Saxo's & his mate up the road was into Starlet's went up there one day & another one of their friends car was there, the Startet had been stripped out completely, no interior, apart from 2 fibreglass bucket seats, no dash other than gauges, plexiglass (or such like) windows, ultra-lite racing alloys (not road legal), minute washer bottle, if it didn't need it it was taken off. Then the lad who drove it came around the corner he must have been well over 18 stone, I didn't say it then but said to my lad later he'd have been better saving his money & going on a diet.
  4. I've just bought a set of leather Mazda RX8 seats for my GTM, I'm surprised how narrow they are I would suggest they would fit into a RH drivers is full electric
  5. Yes, 3 times, 1st time coming up the A1 back from Santa Pod in our MR2 Turbo, noticed a trail smoke behind us, pulled over to find the driveshaft oil seal had let go spraying oil all over getting onto the exhaust & causing the smoke. This was a Sunday afternoon/early evening, rang them up explained wasn't worth sending out a mechanic as self diagnosed, also it would have to be a low loader capable of handling a lowered car. They turned up within the hour with one of those beds that slides off, this was around 2006/7 in those days you had to pay the contractor & then claim the money back, which I did & got it back in less than a week & before the CC was due. This has now changed you don't pay anything anymore or at least I haven't the other twice. 2nd time I was coming back from Stoneleigh on the A46 on the Oxton bypass when the fan belt of the A-series snapped on the buggy I was driving, mechanic came out I was expecting to have to be towed home, but he found a belt in the bottom of his van & together we put it on, he then charged me just for the belt. 3rd time I was out with my daughter & grandkids, she tried to make a U turn & the front subframe on her Golf collapsed quite scary really the bottom arm just pulled out from the subframe due to corrosion, luckily we were only doing about 5 mph, but had it gone 5 minutes before when she was doing 60! We were only 8 miles from home so rang the wife she came & collected the daughter & grandkids & I waited for the recovery truck, he came out in a spec type truck managed to pick the front end up & strap it on safely. He even reversed it onto the drive, then let me put axle stands under it before he dropped it off the T-bar. Seem to remember I had to wait just over an hour for them on that occasion, but it didn't help that I was in the middle of Clumber Park & there was no mobile reception, he'd been driving around 15 minutes looking for me. Mine is due again on the 27th & so far I've not found a better deal, it's peace of mind, I will fix all my own issues where I can & limp home, but it's nice to know if like we have for the past 10 years done a trip in the kit car to mid Wales that if the worst happened you'll always going to get home. I must admit I will be checking out Green Flag before I do renew but I don't think they can get anywhere near, also check your bank, some are included, but with them check the small print, they are or at least were very restrictive, the Nat West one I had several years ago wasn't with the icons on the screen, 10 miles max, only to a garage etc. Edit:- Just checked out Green Flag you have to specify vehicles so in my mind it's a non starter
  6. I would recommend AutoAid https://www.autoaidbreakdown.co.uk/ £59 a year for both yourself & partner, on any vehicle either of you are in, includes motorbikes, trailers & caravans. Was far better value when it was only £38 a few years ago, but some venture capitalists bought in & they want their money back so prices have gone up but I think they are still good value, compared with the others.

    Stoneleigh

They didn't or at least hadn't, this was an email to club organisers, but since then it is on their own FB page apparently

Didn't think them adding in big red letters would make any difference Please could you refrain from posting the update on any social media for the next 24 hours whilst we make our own announcements for visitors, so that they hear it from us first. Thank you for your understanding on this.

Personally remove it & fit electric with thermostat.
  10. Never heard an MOT station refusing to test a kit, they are just a normal Class 4 tests, the only time I have been an issue was when the tester was too large to fit in the kit he had the apprentice sit in the car.

    Insurance

It wasn't a complaint, it was a suggestion based on fact, you could have replaced Flux with Heritage or any other insurance company & the result would have been the same, insurance companies are not there for our benefit they are there to make money just like any business. Now if you do want my personal feelings on auto insurance companies they would be deleted.

Go back to Flux they will beat it, just annoying they try to screw you the first time, but it's always been that way.
  13. From section 09D of the manual 20. The hydraulic system failure warning lamp must be secure, operational, visible during daylight and darkness from the driving position, identifiable (i.e. labelled in a recognised form – see figure 1 for an example) and fitted with a “test facility” that enables its operation to be checked from the driving position without opening the reservoir. Which means it does not have to be on the handbrake although this is a convenient way of doing it, it can be on a separate switch on the dashboard if you prefer. However it does need to be the recognised symbol in Red as per figure 1. The wiring should be a switched live to the bulb, then from the bulb a wire going in parallel to both the test switch & the MC, then from both to earth, which will then mean if the test switch is thrown the bulb will light, or if the fluid level drops the bulb will light.

I would figure on paying the £450 & then unfortunately the additional £90 for the retest, the number of cars that get through first time is very low, especially with a first time presenter. On top of that you also have to pay £55 registration fee along with 6 months VED to get your V5C they only accept cheques or Postal Orders
  15. I can ask him if he wants to move, but he's 31, still at home rent free, has 2 cars, a motorbike & a flatbed truck that you'll have to accommodate, given the choice of 20% off Screwfix or a quieter life I'm know which I would take as a prefered option
  16. Son bought a DeWalt he works for Screwfix & gets 20% off even sale items, seem very good, now have several tools & several batteries
  17. Flipside I bought a Stormforce for a MK1 MR2 it stripped the paint off the edge of the wings over winter, although they assured us it was the correct one, it was very baggy.

I hope you don't mind but I have fixed that for you

    Road tax

Including all those that aren't electric, take the BMW I8, it can drive about 20 miles on it's battery before it's flat, why is that exempt, it should have it's ICE disabled to qualify, but comes back to @Mrbarry's point, if it was on miles travelled at your consumption rate it would be far fairer, including the thousands & thousands that don't pay any at all, because there is nobody to catch them.

    Road tax

Not only that I sold my BMW bike on Friday night & rode it over to the new owners house, he was insuring & VED'ing it from Saturday, they will refund me from the 1st of July, but charge him from the 1st June, so they double bubble this month.

    Road tax

I posed the same question to our MP a couple of years ago, other than I didn't suggest 2p, I suggested that they knew how much revenue was received, they also knew how many litres had been sold so the additional would be an easy calculation. He forwarded it as a Parliamentary question to the Dept of Transport or whatever they are now called. They wrote back to me via him basically stating it would have an adverse effect on rural dwellers & as such they would not be doing it. But I am in full agreement with you, the cost saving would be huge, on the administration alone.
  22. Not done an IVA but did 5 SVA's never requested a Vin from DVLA I just made mine up, as far as I know they just have to be 17 digits long.
  23. Later today if that's okay Alan..
  24. Bill, I'd like this, how much do you want for postage, name a charity & I will make a donation if you won't take anything for it. Or if you won't post I have a friend in Towcester who I can probably get to collect & he will post Alan..
