  1. Yes, I would be up for this as well.
  2. Will watch with interest. Like Mark, I also have plans and have looked at teardrop trailers as a project.
  3. Yep, I went with Morris in the end, £82.95 with a £750 excess. It was worth it for my first track day for piece of mind.
  4. That was a bit of fun. I also like the next one that came up of your run to the Bentley Motor Museum. Visited there a number of years ago with my parents and is a nice little museum to visit.
  5. I am going to do my first track day in September at Llandow. I think it is wise to get insurance, just in case, and A-Plan have quoted me £100. I have another quote from InsureMyTackday for £99. Does anyone have any other suggestions of people to use? If I enjoy the day, I can add cover to my policy for £200 at renewal that will cover me for 5 trackdays in the next year, but this is happening before the renewal in October.
  6. This is the same weekend as the End of Season Bash so it might be possible to combine the 2. Go to GBS first and then on to the ESOB afterwards. Will have a look at routes and timings
  7. After Stoneleigh this year, the editor of TKC (sorry I can't remember his name) was interviewed by Chris Evans on his radio show and he challenged Chris Evans to include a sort of KitFest at the next CarFest. Perhaps it couldn't be arranged in time for this one but it may happen in 2018 if they can work it out. We need all the shows we can get to promote the industry and these cars!!
  8. I agree, not a Zero. The roll bar and rear panel give the game away. I would guess MK Indy or as Femi says, a Haynes of some description.
  9. Westfield produced an electric version as an experiment. They made the iRacer but also a standard looking Westfield. Dragon Electric Vehicles have been pushing their electric cars for a while and has a fully electric Vindicator. There is also a chap out in the Bahamas that is building an electric Westfield at the moment for sprinting I think. I am sure there are many others.
  10. These are very very rough guides: Crate engine £1000 ECU £700 Wiring looms £500-£600 Plenum chamber £300 or Throttle Bodies £1100 Ford Donor pack (Geabox, diff, hubs, drive shafts, steering column) £600 It all adds up. As said, perhaps get the car on the road as cheap as you can, then let 'upgraditis' set in and change it all. People here have done Crossflow to St170 or Pinto to Zetec and Zac has gone 4 pot Mazda to V6 mazda. Other have gone Zetec to S2000. There are so many options. I think the only one that 'might' not fit would be a V8, but I could be proved wrong there!!
  11. My steering column was part of the donor pack from GBS, it was not new. As you say, I am not sure you could even buy a new one now for a Sierra!! With regards to the IVA, things may well have tightened up in the 5.5 years since mine went through and I may have got some 'concessions' as it was presented by GBS and not by me. Only people who presented their own cars recently will have a better idea. Zac has a good point re the MX5 donor route, you can get a lot of money back selling the unwanted parts. You may even get back what the donor cost you!! They are also far more plentiful than the old Sierra!! Added to that, there are also a lot of bolt on performance parts readily available for the mazda engine. The registration plate won't change the satisfaction of the build when it is complete or the smile it will put on your face when you drive it and it will still be a new car, exempt from MOT for 3 years. I think the £14k to £16k for a new reg is about right although it could go up, the more you add things on. The SDV route (Single Donor Vehicle) could see you on the road for under £10K. It is a route I would have considered had it been available in 2010 when I first started building. When you go to see GBS, the current demo car is Mazda based, so see how you like it.
  12. The 1 refurbished part is a bit misleading. The drive train can be considered 1 item. I had the gearbox, diff, driveshafts and uprights as part of my donor kit from GBS and they were refurbished. Certainly the gearbox, diff and driveshafts were considered as 1 item and maybe I was lucky with the front uprights being painted to look new. I then had a new Zetec crate engine and everything else new to get a new registration. Talk to GBS, they will be up to date with the IVA rules. It may also help to have them put the car through IVA for you. Just a thought.

Thanks to everyone for a great weekend. I was good to meet some new people and catch up with some old friends. Thanks to Dan for the passenger ride in 'The Banshee', it is a monster car! Hopefully I can do it again next year as it was a wonderful way to spend a rare weekend off
  14. That is kind of you to say Richard. This is the link https://gbszerobuild.blogspot.com You will also do well to look at Richard's blog as well. There are a couple of inspirational trips in there as well!
  15. Hi Rich, welcome aboard. The guys at the factory are very friendly and will look after you. The Zero is a great car and you will enjoy the build process as well as the driving afterwards. Don't get held up on the fact that GBS can't give you a build manual, just have a look at some of the build blogs as that will give you a good idea what is involved and how the car goes together. There are lots of very knowledgeable people on here and we are always happy to help. Edit - Memo to self - must type faster than Mark B

    Gbs Zero Wanted

I can also confirm that it is a cracking car, I have seen it and met adrian on a couple of occasions. It is almost a twin to mine, colour wise.
  17. Cheers. Mine should be in by this weekend, so I should have it early next week.
  18. I am waiting on the delivery of a new tent which should be with me in time. If it is, do you have room for a small one?!?!
  19. I have always had a positive experience with GBS, whether buying or just visiting. Even 5 years on from registering the car, the old guard of the team (Richard, Keith, Ben, Ruth and Simon) still remember me and are happy to chat.
  20. Just wanted to confirm with the Committee that it was OK to promote this outside of RHOCaR. I remember there were some Dutton club members the year before last so I assume it is OK, but thought I better ask. I was going to add this to the local WSCC Faceache page in case anyone fancied a night or 2 away. Do RHOCaR have a club membership with Kitnet.uk? I wonder if it is worth putting a post over there to see if anyone there might be interested?
  21. I assume the live axle would cope with the extra power OK? It would have originally probably have been out of a MKII Ford Escort.

    Nice Car

Looks like a Seven at the front and Marlin Roadster at the back. I quite like it.
  23. I have a feeling the AA policy won't cover kit cars, but I may be wrong. A-Plan do a policy that is £35 ish per annum and it covers Europe, so that may be a way to go.
