  1. I am only 1 voice on the committee and as you all know I will be stepping down very soon because this is one of the decisions I've strongly disagreed with - and yes I'm probably spitting my dummy out over it but its because a lot of hard work and personal favours was put in to get it to where it is, only for it to be tossed aside because the committee basically can't be ar5ed and are using the 'only dates available' as a convenient excuse not to bother with it this year (September date was offered almost straight away after last years event and June was offered not long after, so these dates have been on the table for ages). I accept that I do hold a bias view on the EOSB given that the venue for the first few years was Hollowell (which I had close ties with) and then in last couple of years it has been held at the Ukrainian Centre (again, I have close ties with the venue). Both these venues I've managed to get the club and vastly reduced costs compared to other venues. My take on the situation is that the newer members on the committee would rather stick up some RHOCaR banners and write some cheques for other people's events instead of rolling there sleeves up and organising something (EOSB) themselves.
  2. Thanks Dan - I thought about dropping you a line as I remember seeing you now have a gas analyser.....however discovering the lack of a cat made the emissions problem pretty obvious!
  3. The VX220 failed mot yesterday on emissions.....and its hardly surprising because once I got underneath to have a look at the after-market exhaust, there is no bl00dy cat installed. The car is an 03 plate with I think means its tested to Euro3. Ive bought a 200cell cat with is e-marked and supposedly Euro4 standard. But Im a little bit worried because Ive read some bits on the web where people struggle to get 200cell cats through the mot. Now it maybe one of those instances where the more you read, the more conflicting info you get.....so I thought Id reach out to the trusted RHOCaR crew to see if any of you guys have had experiences with 200cell cats, any problems etc..... 2 foot notes - the vx has a really short exhaust system and the cat is immediately after the primaries so it should get plenty warm enough.... Also from looking into this, it looks like most cats you can by for kitcars are 200cell.....gbs sell theres and it is 200 cell and they say it Iva compliant
  4. If you mount to the suspension uprights the arches don’t turn with the wheels. The brackets can be adjusted to fit to the hubs and then the arches will turn with the wheels.
  5. Hit a small milestone today - she’s now on wheels!!
  6. the only thing that springs to my mind are these guys who I've used through work on a few occasions; http://edition.pagesuite-professional.co.uk/html5/reader/production/default.aspx?pubname=&pubid=2f4eda40-d80d-4f53-8076-bfd6e33bd759 http://www.tecni-cable.co.uk/Catalogues-Knowledge

    Derby Area Meets

    For now, I think it may help the new area sec if the informal Ripley meet became even less formal and not as regular as we did last summer. All being well, the monthly meet planned at Watnall will get supported and will be up and running in no time.........and as for the Ripley meet, I think I'll just post one up every so often throughout the summer for anyone who fancies it.

    Derby Area Meets

    We can still do the informal meet we did last year - just didn't want to do anything to overshadow the new guy's efforts and try to give him a clear run at it

    Derby Area Meets

    Honestly mate, this isn't political in the slightest. I responded to your Derby area meet with the intention of doing the same as we did last year. This prompted our Club sec to post up in the committee section about another member who is really interested in becoming the Notts and Derby area sec, and arrange a monthly meetings. Given the Derby meets last year were never really anything formal, and now that another member has kindly volunteered to organise more official area meets around us - it seemed the sensible thing to me to step back on this one and give the new guy a chance of getting the official meets off the ground and running successfully.

    Derby Area Meets

    About an hour after posting this, the club-sec brought to the attention of the committee a member who wishes to become the Notts and Derby area sec - so on second thoughts and to be sure not to tread on any toes - I'll leave this one up to the new area sec to decide upon.

    Derby Area Meets

    I’m happy to start the informal meets again..... Shall we do the 3rd Thursday of the month again?

  13. http://postimages.org/has been the quickest for me
  14. A few photos to update as its been a while; Back end assembled with customs drive shafts fitted. Next job is to fit some springs, some wheels, brake callipers (with custom carriers) and then look at the arb. Front end assembled, but the suspension is a bit wooden so going to have to change the dampers; Heres a bit of an overall view. You can see the gear selector fitted (and working) and just for the hell of it I bolted some old wheels on the front;
  15. Hi Gaz, I've not bothered running this passed the committee as they'll probably just spend a fortnight arguing amongst themselves over how to respond Whilst I've been chairman for the last 4 years, I've tried my best to ensure the money put into the club is given back to the members in one way or another - to the point where our bank balance has been gradually going down year on year and the committee may need to throttle back a little on spending - this is up to the new committee as I'll be standing down in May. Just to give you an idea, in broad brushstrokes the club spends; £1500 on magazine (actual costs are closer to £3k but we get some back through advertising) about £750 (5 lots of £150) given to individual members to support any event / attendance to show that they organised. £750 to provide a hog roast to members after the agm at stoneleigh £750 forum costs around £600 out of club funds towards the clubs annual end of season bash other costs are things like club insurance, membership cards etc.... As said, I'm current chairman and my wife Kirsty is membership sec - and to be honest I'm not sure how your situation slipped through the net as we normally email members who join close to the end of the year to give them the heads-up regards the old-fashion annual membership. FYI - the membership renewal thing is being looked at, but without writing chapter and verse, there are a few complications that need resolving first. anyway, to hopefully make amends for your situation slipping through the net, I'll ask Kirsty to renew your membership tonight FOC for 2018 - and if the committee disagree with this decision, I'll personally put the money in myself to cover it as I can't be ar5ed with the arguing.
  16. DanE told me only a couple of weeks ago that he cant weld so its brave criticism.....stones and glass houses springs to mind lol!!! ;-)
  17. Drilled a hole in the drive flange so that the countersunk set screws can be removed after its all assembled (for future if the bearing has to be replaced); Thats the rear hub carrier now assembled with the sleeve, bearing and retaining flange fitted; Next was a spacer to go between the drive flange and disc; Next update will be fitment of the drive shafts very soon
  18. Its been a while so here is a brief update of where I am at. Ive been focusing efforts on the rear hubs. Using MG TF bearings, drive flange, and outer CV joint, Ive machined the hub-carriers and along with some other bits to make it all work; First I machined about 8mm off the front face of the carrier And then I border out the carrier; The next bits to make were the front retaining flange (this will all make sense as the bits come together) and hub sleeve; Then drill the countersunk holes for the front retaining flange; Then the sleeve is press fitted into the hub carrier and the MG TF bearing is press fitted into the sleeve;

    Should I Buy?

    As with any kitcar, being familiar with a spanner helps greatly as Robin Hoods are cars which you tend to tinker with to either keep them roadworthy or simply to upgrade. Picking up on your comments about also considering a Boxster, here is what I’ve found having had my ‘hood’ for the last 14 years but also in the last few months having got to grips with a sporty production car; The production car (in my case a vx220) is comfier, warmer and more civilised than the hood. Everything works on the VX like it’s supposed to whereas my hood (as most) has some ‘quirks’ - for example on the hood, the fuel gauge works backwards. However,……. As great as the vx220 is, for me it just doesn’t get me as excited when driving as the robin hood does. Nor does the VX get the ‘looks’ from people as you drive around. Also, when driving the VX, it didn’t take long before I was ‘use to it’ and it started to feel a bit bland in comparison to the hood. Also the hood is a lot easier to work on than the VX and has a much more knowledgeable community. Regards robin hoods in comparison to the rest of the kitcar market place. I totally agree with what everyone else has said. They are not the best kitcar around in terms of weight and handling, but then again, they aren’t as terrible as some people would have you believe either, and they certainly don’t have a £10k-£15k that some of the ‘better’ kitcars have…….and in comparison to most sporty production cars in the same price bracket, they will put a huge smile on your face!
  21. ......has arrived lol!! I bet you dont miss this time of year ChrisN!!!
