  1. You must be going senile Jim, there's a link to them in useful part numbers on your NWRHOCAR page!
  2. Just checked my motor and the original vauxhall wire tail from the oil pressure sender that I joined to the original Sierra loom is blue/green. Adding a remote filter take off shouldn't affect the position of the pressure sender, it should still be at the back of the oil pump behind the filter head. Don't get hung up on wire colours as the original builder could have used whatever was to hand. Get a meter and test for power with ignition on and off, continuity and also try to trace wires to their start and finish points.
  3. Removing the plugs out let's the engine turn over faster, less strain on the starter and oil pressure achieved faster.
  4. A F'king great big grin! Plugs out, coil packs disconnected, turn engine over until you've got oil pressure then plugs back in, reconnect coil packs and she should go. Feather the accelerator if necessary then once you're going start looking for leaks etc
  5. Depends on where the failure is, if it's betweeen two cylinders then yes you'll have low readings on two cylinders, but if it's gone between a cylinder and a waterway then you you may get the symptoms you desrcibe. You could try one of the kits that detects exhaust products in the coolant. For the sake of an hours work I'd be tempted to whip the head off and look for signs of damage on the gasket, then if it's that it's only a couple of hours to ut it back together. If you need a lift i'm only down the road
  6. Dave, these people do them link You'll also need a tacho/revcounter for a 6 cylinder rather than 4
  7. Mt75 is just another Ford gearbox and the speedo cable and drive are probably used across various models, boxes etc. Hopefully it's an easy fix and not one of the issues that surround the bronze bush and engine/gearbox misalignment that were common with early super specs.
  8. Is it definitely a type 9, your car is a super spec doesn't it have the rover engine and mt75 gearbox combination? If it's the mt75 didn't that have a remote linkage that may have come adrift?
  9. Great weekend, great weather despite all the doom and gloom spread by the forecasters. Thanks to all the boys and girls that make these things happen. Stephen, did you get home without completing your hat trick of mishaps?
  10. Good girl, we're off to Cuba for our 30th. Fortunately getting in there before the Americans go and turn it into a disney resort now they've made friends again.
  11. If you're talking about gas struts I used one from a Nissan Micra centrally mounted and that was enough to support a 2B alligator bonnet.
  12. Hi All, sorry it’s short notice, but there’s a change of plan. Due to the prospect of potentially heavy rain in the late afternoon at Stoneleigh on Saturday I’m now intending to leave home between 10.30 and 11.00 am and travel straight down to Stoneleigh. I don’t mind camping in the rain, but I’d rather have the tent up before it starts and not be pitching in the rain. I know this messes with people's plans so probably best that we all just make our own arrangements for getting there.
  13. The final parts for your half roof have arrived today so I need to come over and get the placements for the straps etc
  14. All the above will apply whatever sump you have. Also check for sealing at the joint between the oil pump and block. Crank case pressure can be a problem on old XEs, check they are clear including the rubber elbow to the cam cover and the internal pathway in the cam cover unless you've done the SBD mod.
  15. No problem Si, so that's a convoy of two, possibly three leaving Tesco on Saturday.
  16. Ah the good old leaking redtop sump gasket! What sump do you have? Does it have good internal baffles and not just the windage plate? Has the rear main bearing and oil seal been disturbed because the can leak if not seal properly on replacement. If you have a baffled sump you can ditch the windage plate and just use one cork gasket and sealant such as Wynns black gasket maker on each face. Sump bolt torque is very low and you really must thread lock the bolts to stop them working loose. You might have to use shorter bolts if you go down to one cork gasket. Alternatively use the windage plate with a cork gasket and Wynns as above. If using the Wynns allow 24 hrs for it to go off before refilling with oil.
  17. Thanks Mitch for all you've done over the past few years, great effort with all the changes that went on in your life too. Time to sit back, let someone else take the reins and you,Jen, Amy and Florrie enjoy life.
  18. Nice one Pete, all you had to do was ask
  19. Plenty of other Sundays to see her sisters but only one Stoneleigh, have a word and tell her you're going!
  20. After years of asking Greater Manchester Fire Service issued a St George/England flag to all stations to be flown on St George's day each year. That'll be the first job of the day if the night watch haven't already changed the flags.
  21. I know a few of you like the BBMF so thought I'd post this link for you. Link 5th July at Manchester City Airport/Barton Aerodrome just off the M60 and very close to the Trafford Centre so you could make a day of it, planes for you guys and shopping for the other halves.
  22. I'm pretty certain that Ferrari was behind me a few weeks ago. I remember thinking it looked a bit naff with all the stickers. Kept coming up behind me shaping like he was going to overtake, then turned onto the driveway of a large house in Bramhall.
  23. I feel for you Terry, killed my engine twice the other year. Might be worth doing some research to see if there are any other cases of similar failures with forced induction on that engine, could the boost be too high?
  24. Hi All, See below for a suggested intinary for travelling to Stoneleigh on Saturday 2nd May for those wanting to travel in a group. Meet at Tesco Extra Stockport, just of Jct 27 M60 from 1330hrs ready to be away at 1400hrs, fuel is available there. From there to Buxton with another stop at Morrisons supermarket for anybody that wants to join there. Travel time to Buxton is around 30 mins, there is fuel at Morrisons and we should be away by 1500 at the latest. From there A515 through Ashbourne to Lichfield, A5 to Tamworth, M42 Jct 10 to Jct 6 then A45 and B4113 to Stoneleigh Park. That should see us arriving at around 1700hrs, so plenty of time to pitch tents, get some food cooked and all the bits and pieces sorted before dark. If you're interested in forming a group add your name below.
