Sykes won't offer a discount now they wanted free advertising on the forum and in the mag to offer an unprovable discount, they have done the rounds on the club's using bully boy style tactics. I asked them to prove the discount or pay advertising. I never heard another word from Them.

So I would steer clear..

A very good day all ...

I bought and insured my 'hoodie' last August, a new experience for me.

I live in Birmingham and as I bought the car to share with my 'children' I wanted 5 names on a fully comp policy. I have no garage and have to park on my drive.

I went to A Plan and the price seemed reasonable, so went with them.

I pay £143.80, with 5 named drivers. There are limitations ... no using it for daily travel to and from work ... limited mileage each year ... etc.

One of the drivers (not me) has speeding convictions but I was happy with the result.

Highway insurance, of course, being behind it.

Hey .......... today I can type .......... thank you keyboard .......... and whatever else is going on behind the scenes!

Today I see sun out of my window ... yippee.

Hmm, I wonder if that was why Highway fell out with them ? They are still my underwriters even though I am now with F. Pickles.

What I think was meant was, can you build up a second NCB on the second car you own. I tried this a few years ago and was told that I would have to start from scratch with the second car and build up a separate NCB on that one. (non kit car)

I still wonder though if you can do the same with kit cars. (Mind you, at these premiums, I can't grumble too much)

Kit car policies tend to be rated net of NCD, in other words discounted due to the specialist nature of them not due to claim free driving. You can't accrue NCD on them as they don't have any NCD attached to them, if that makes sense.

I always used Sureterm Direct for the 2b, underwritten by Highway. When I changed to the Z3 they said they couldn't insure it on a low mileage classic or kit type policy as it was too new. Tried ClassicLine insurance in Hinckley, massively helpful, do kits, caravans, 4x4s, classics etc...did me a good 3k mile classic policy deal and guess what....underwritten by Highway!!!!!

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm currently with Frank Pickles and seeing some of the other quotes on here I feel like I've been fisted with studded glove!!! Not sure exactly how much I'm currently paying but over £200. I'll be shopping around at renewal time.

On a similar note, my buildings and contents insurance is due next week and my renewal premium was £409 with Directline. I got the same cover from AXA through confused.com for £290 so I phoned Directline to cancel my renewal.

5 minutes later after some frenetic keyboard tapping noises they'd re-quoted me £263 because they'd applied a "loyalty discount" - yeah right, that'll be the secret discount that they only apply when customers rumble them and realise they're taking the pi55.
