Jensen Healey

Hi , I'd just thought I'd tell you all about one of my projects.

It's a Jensen Healey 1974 vintage that's sat in a barn unloved since 93

As you can imagine it's just one long welding nightmare but I'm getting better at it as time goes on.

The top half of the engine was in the boot disassembled and it lived outside without a hood or any type of cover for the last two years 😳

As it is I've removed the interior and have replaced the passenger side floor and have to drivers side to do

Pictures to follow if I can remember how to post them here lol.

So anyone with experience on these cars is more than welcome to " let me know where I'm going wrong " lol

I used to have one 22 years ago, here is what i can remember

1, lotus 2.2 twin cam with side draft webers

2, rapier gearbox

3, all running gear was vauxhall magnum

$ could never stop cam carrier from leaking, ( Shimming valves was a nightmare ) so just let it leak but that was before the days of silicon sealers

The engine was developed from the slant 4 vauxhall, I think the early engines used the vauxhall crankshaft. You will find that the vauxhall bearing shells are the same but cheaper than 'proper' ones. Effectively, Chapman developed the engine with Jensen, seem to remember the early ones were problematic. Later Lotus then used the engines in their own cars. I worked at Vauxhall at the time and there were a few of the cars in for testing. Vauxhall had developed their own twin cam head which was suposedly better but guess it was too expensive at the time, plus it was the mid 70s oil crisis. Nice car, good luck with it.
