Thanks for your replies,Kevin & Chris, does the other side of lamp go to earth? do you (or anyone else) know of 51/2 J x 14 (or 15) alloy wheels? I've looked in loads of tyre & wheel sites but know luck, thanks again,Bob.
I have a small Denso alternator fitted to my 2B-- wiring?-- M6 stud = output cable to battery , standard size male spade = ? , 2nd standard male spade(at right angles to 1st) = ? There are no markings on any terminal.
Next question (note supposed to be in here) I have sierra wheels--5 1/2J x 14 & alloy wheels 6JJ x 15 what difference will be made on fitting to2B--i.e handling/road holding/steering "weight" ,I know I'll have to fit lower profile tyres to the alloy's to maintain circumference; thanks for your help.
Just the pictures sent shivers down my spine; 3million on this or a Buggati? MY money would go on the locomotive -- mainly because it's going to be USED--for what it was built to do, not stuffed & mounted which is probably the fate(past, present & future) for the Buggati. I LOVE steam!!
As I understand it, the steel sleeves should be a firm fit, so if lined up correctly they will press in (by vice) easily, after all when assembled & working the sleeve stands still & the wish-bone/nylon assembly pivots around it.Also no burrs should be produced on the nylon--this indicates that the sleeve was not cleaned of burrs or it was not circular---sorry to go at odds with you Tony B---I wait to be shot down by more experienced builders.
As a temp. fix, could you use aerial co-ax cable? It's got 1mm centre conductor so is plenty heavy enough for the sender signal--standing by for a smack with a stick of rubarb if stupid idea.
Good on yer, if you didn't have a go you would only regret it when you are too old to have a go--spent most of to-day out on the sledge--now hurt all over but still smiling!!!
More playing in the snow,& pictures of same please & less round & round discussion--you're all beginning to sound like politicians--& we certainly don't want that.
Me & Sylvia had loads of problems with our vehicle to-day--steering was poor--brakes non-existant--& we couldn't decide on the best wax for the runners.
Would it be possible for us (Hoodies) to own up to our failings -- anonomously -- it would then show a bench mark for the 635 supposedly "elders & betters" who rule us but seem to dis-regard the rules them-selves. The above is one "offence" for every 2.4 members are we better?
Our Jeep's skinny spare wheel has a cloth type cover which you could borrow;if that helps P.M or mention it when we see you at next Barleycorn meet;which is the 10th Feb, regards Bob.
Have you ever taken the time to show your lovely lady--how she can help--by making brackets--sorting out wiring--painting little fiddly bits(no not that-keep your mind on the car)--taking off things(steady) that you have just put on--incorrectly--reminding you where the 10mm spanner/socket/screwdriver is (you know you had it a moment ago)--Then there is --holding things in place(cool down)--making tea/coffee/sarnies & fetching another bucket of logs for the wood-burner--before she breaks-off to go cook & clean for you. Best apprentice I've ever had; & she is still there in the morning.
To the (former) employee who dreamt this up on my time ---you're Stuffed along with you P45 in your final pay packet---Regards The Management & no I can't think of words that will spell-out STUFFED---you can do that in your wall to wall free time that you are about to start enjoying.
Heater--our solution--strip Sierra heater to the core--mount in box formed in between footwells with base plate over bell housing-- passenger dash vents in each footwell & hose from top of box to screen vents--close footwell vents to heat screen--cut one fan-spindle & housing from motor assembly & mount over hole in cold side of box--make sure to put vents in pipes feeding core. Heater blows a good 'un 'cos the ducting is almost non- existant. Nearly forgot;put a tap in the heater feed so you got cold draught as well.
We have put our hand-brake in between the two tunnel chassis tubes;quite a lot of work but the result is V.professional (we think) send post if you would like more info, regards Bob.
It's great when a plan comes together;but are there no rubber/metal engine mounts between bracket & chassis? May help with the gear selector prob we discussed on Saturday, regards Bob.
Galvafroid is a very thick zinc-rich paint, goes on like underseal;by brush;& dries like a ploughed field;very expensive but good on chassis;don't think it can be over painted;least ways not for a long time after. Regards Bob.
Great innit---after months(years?) slumbering our 1.8CVH lump;converted to EFI has once again spoken---burble burble brumm bruuummm;filled the garage with smoke & soot(from the old jury-rigged exhaust--fitted upside down & back to front)& us with smiles & pride. Now all is quite & clean again so must get on with all the other bits; may be finished in another year or two.
