Thanks all Tried big lees method and sucess .Paul has been for a quick blast and says it's ok. My series 2 has been in pauls mate's garage for the same amount of time so may face the problem again. cheers to all and a merry christmas swan

pauls car (vindicator with a V8 in it) has been sat in my garage for 3 to four months and is now up and running. (althoiugh that bl**dy spark is back on the coil) however when we tried to reverse it out of the garage today we couldnt select reverse, or any other gear. with the engine off, it is possible to select all gears, (the clutch pedal isnt seized) but as its in a driveway, we cant run it back wards into the road! (when you turn the key even with the clutch fully depressed it wants to fly back! and the only way to stop it is to kill the ignition) any ideas? cheers paul

Hi. Paid my insurance with roadsure yesterday £94 for 1.5k miles. It is normal with roadsure to require pics for an agreed value. If they do not see pics of your car they could in theory be agreeing to a value which is inflated. swan

hi have a look at this http://nw.rhocar.org/sump.htm While the sump shown has a side extension box there are a lot of people who have not bothered and run with slightly less oil capacity. Do not be tempted to fill above the max mark !!! Do not shorten the dipstick. The max mark is the position that the oil should be. With regards the cost of shortening a sump it is not a big job to cut down , and cut a new base plate to suit. Even without welding equipment the cost of having it done at a small engineering company would probably not ammount to more than an hours labour. Swan
