Great weekend catching up with people and chatting to new ones. I think we had a good turnout. especially as the weather was looking not ideal. we waited till it stopped then set off back...glad we did.. bought some things to upgrade the hood even more. nothing major got some ideas for half roofs though.. which I desperately need a better one.

After looking at some cars this weekend I need a new half hood. contacted soft bits for sevens. Anywhere else that people recommend. I don't think im skilled enough with a machine to make this particular item. any help appreciated.

either strip the pinto...or drop a good known 2nd hand one in youve heard running.. Ivan the terrible.. just rebuilt one and dropped it in.. you could do it the other way around.. drop a runner in... then repair the one you have at leisure.or strip it down at least. if you want im sure i have a haynes for a cortina or sierra somewhere. for a few quid ill post it out.

get it out.... way too think for a pinto... 20w50 only. who told you to use that. ??

imo on a pinto...20w50 only. don't start it till you've drained it and done a filter and oil change

What oil did you use.. theres no denying it needs stripping down ..start with the simple things..pull the rocker.. that's a simple job..see what it looks like.

to give you an idea. there was a pinto 2 weeks ago. full set up. modified head,kent cam, bike carbs, management, manifolds etc etc went for 1200 so a standard head and block should be about 300-400 ish max. its a days steady work to swap em over. but id pop the rocker off first. it can show up many things.. even a compression test will help with diagnosis

before you panic and bail find out whats wrong. ive seen rocker posts come loose..and they can rattle like hell...and is a simple spanner fix does it have oil..and pressure..is the spark plugs ok and not broken off.. so many things to check before panic stations.

Go to the dealers and buy a gasket....all the aftermarket ones are pony. Is it the 8 valve ??

Usually a wiggle with a lever will get it off

check relay pins before doing anything else.

mine seems to need a good few turns over when stood for a whiile..a week plus.. best way i found is a little squirt down each choke from a petrol filled pop top bottle sorts it out.

Female spades onto the relay..2 inch of wire..then a male spade ..1 for each pin..then push each male into the where the relay belongs..easy and simple..2pins on the led relay were opposite each other

Nigel bet me to it. Relay pins different. You may have to make a small wiring harness to connect it correctly. Did this myself a few weeks back

leds are polarity sensitive..assuming they can be fitted the wrong way ie 501 bulbs. if not remove them one by one and test them with 12v . also test the relay. if it worked before the bulb and relay away its one of those items.

Checked and lubed the ujs..I wonder if being close to the manifold isn't great.. Found a loose upper ball joint..oops.. everything else seems fine.. been for a short spin..all seems to be fine now.. sorted the bodywork touching the exhaust and new bobbins..time to rack up miles . hopefully good weather for Stoneleigh at least.

sounds like a good day.. I have plenty of spare random hoses if theyre of any use.
