Loss Of Power

was out for a drive yesterday had done about thirty miles when I lost power there was a slight misfire aswell it felt like I was running on two cylinders so managed to get to a layby and it ticked over fine so I switched it off and poped bonnet to check things couldn't find anything wrong so started it up and hoped I could make it home drove fine till about five miles then started again I slowed down and it was fine got near home gave it a boot full a rounabout plenty of power then it started again misfired for about a mile then fine anyone got an idea cos I am stumped

Are you running a dizzy?

I had a rotor arm that was shorting out once. It caused similar running problems.

Plugs, a zetec achilles heel. Can be very sensitive to running rich. Have you rolling roaded it yet?

Might be worth fitting a fuel pressure gauge to check fuel pressure is what you think it is and is maintained at all times.

is it happening under load? HT leads /coil pack breaking down?

no its not been rolling road yet I have spotted a possible cause I haven't put a breather pipe on the cam cover yet and the only position I could put the coil pack was right in the path or cam breather there is some residue on ht leads on coil pack could it be cooking ht leads and coil pack

you're running megajolt? could it be a loose connection putting the ignition into 'safe' mode?

well stuck a pipe on cam cover breather and aimed it away from coil pack and ht leads went out for a short run and no problems so hopefully that's cured it
