We were always told the last thing to do at the end of a days work with a tractor was to top the fuel tank up to reduce the risk of condensation forming.
-
I looked at the one way fuel valves and decided that I couldn't really justify the asking price. What I wanted was a breather that could breath but not let any fuel out if there was an accident that left the car inverted. After a bit of research I fitted a long piece of hose that came higher than the top of the fuel so that fuel couldn't come out in normal use and then went down below the bottom of the tank so that the end would be higher than the tank if the car was upside down. Fixed it all in place with cable ties. I made sure that the end is not inside the car and away from the exhaust or anything else that could damage it

Unless you plan to take the tank out and clean it out properly just make sure you fit an in-line disposable filter. My tank was full of silt of various origins and rusty as well so I took it out and shook out as much muck as I could then put a few handfuls of fine gravel and shook that around for an hour or so until my arms felt like they were dropping off. Rinsed it out with diesel then a bit of petrol, left it to evaporate then put a vacuum cleaner nozzle in to get any remaining dust and then treated it with POR fuel tank sealer.inside still looks perfect after several years. Lot of work but worth it. The senders are not too expensive just make sure you get the right resistance to match the gauge. You can get adjustable length ones and I bent mine lots of times until I got a meaningful gauge reading

For the sake of marital bliss please take the washing up out first.

The one you don't fill up through, which I presume is the radiator can be a blank cap. My radiator is lower than my header tank so I never use it has the blank cap on. Doesn't really explain your problem unless one of the seals in the caps has failed.
-
Is the cap on the radiator just a blanking cap. You certainly don't need two ordinary ones

It shouldn't come on all the time if you are moving and even then it should shut off once it has cooled enough. I presume there is no sign of overheating on the temperature gauge. It may be that the switch or sensor has failed, I had to put a new one on my car. I will leave the wiring instruction to somebody else as everything on my car is wired through a kill switch so key out means no Electrics!

Good advice given by the others. Once you have got it started and home it might be a good time to have a fiddle with the fuel sender. Make sure the sender and gauge are compatible and then you can adjust by bending the sender wire. I put a known amount of fuel in and then adjusted the sender until it was accurate. You won't achieve the same accuracy you will in a normal road car but making sure it reads correctly at a particular level will stop you running out again. Mine reads best at quarter to half so if I start it up straight away I know if I need to fill up or not. Alternatively if the weather is as nice there as it is here, fill it up and go for a drive you can always mess about with it when it's Raining!

Dave, if you need a spare ticket for anybody else they can take my place as my car is still in bits. I thought I would make it but there has been a delay with the clutch. Thought I'd post it up here so somebody else can go instead if they want. I may still go with the family anyway in conventional transport.

Whilst they remove your car

Don't see why not. Go in the car just in case, you'd be hard pushed to have gone round the clock back to your current mileage. They will change it I am sure, everybody makes mistakes.

Shocking performance. We should do better than this. Iceland played very well considering they only had a population slightly bigger than that of Coventry to choose from. We just couldn't cope with their style of play. As for the long throw in, did they not watch footage of their Opponents? I would give them more of a chance against France than we would have had. Good luck to them. I suppose I can't ask for everything I have had one exit from Europe that I wanted and one that I didn't in the last week.
-
Put that up around here and you would have workers from the carrot packers knocking at your door wanting to rent a room. Nice colour, probably get some nice matching curtains.

Now we can sit back and watch it all crumble. What's the idea of the online petition. is that being set up by the people who couldn't bothered to vote the first time because they thought they didn't need to or they didn't know there was a referendum. It certainly seems to get people going especially my sister after my younger brother started to wind her up. My sister in law has thrown a wobbly too, ranting all over Facebook apparently. I say that's democracy for you

My mot tester who races stock cars says you can get a brand new crated zetec for about 650 pounds. Sounds like a lot of money but it's not for a brand new engine. You could buy a second hand unit for 100 quid and have it go bang first time out. Now it sounds like a good deal doesn't It? A properly run in and cared for new engine would last a good long time in one of these cars.

There's going to be a lot head scratching in Europe too as to where the portion of money that the UK pays is going to come from when we leave. Do you think the remaining countries who actually pay in are going to want to suck that Up? I don't think so. Who will be the next country to want to Leave?

Fire extinguisher for when that great bug curly thing is glowing cherry red.

I fitted an impact switch with no problem, only a wire in and a wire out if I remember right. There is a provision for a warning light on mine so that if a pothole activates the switch the light comes on. You don't generally need a light to tell you that you have been in an Accident! It was less than a tenner and what I know about wiring can be written on the back of a postage stamps. Mines a ford one. Fit one, it's a good piece of safety equipment.
-
Sounds like you just need to go through the whole system and make sure it's all up to scratch. I did with mine because it had a fluid leak from the front. I used new seals and pistons, pads and shoes. I made sure it was bled properly. Small children are a useful special tool here when bleeding. Mine stops very well and I am not tempted to mess around with it. If yours still won't lock up then it is time to look at how the system is set up and work out what is wrong before spending hundreds of pounds on kit which may still not cure the issue or may only mask it. Front pistons and seals were only about forty quid when I did them.

Yes it is the one for the gauge, don't know what I would do without Google. At least I can fit that with an adaptor without the surplus one. I think that had just been left on because it plugged a hole. I would have taken it off to reduce Weight! I will turn the engine over without starting it to make sure there is oil pressure before I let it run. I took the heater out on Friday and that weighed nearly four kilos, together with my weight loss that should make for a marked improvement in performance
-
OK, that explains why my oil pressure was all over the place because the gauge was wired to the other sensor. It may be that the revotec gauge and the smiths sender are compatible, don't know how to find out though. Perhaps someone else on the forum has revotec gauges. Otherwise I may have to go for a known combination so that I know the gauge is reading correctly. The more I delve into this the more of a pain it gets.

Just in the process of changing bits over from my duff engine to the new one and am trying to identify what is what. On the side of the oil filter housing is an adapter to which are screwed two sensors I think. One is a small cone shaped one with a hex head which I am guessing is an oil temp sender from the original car as my car has no gauge for this. The wire for this would attach to a screw thread on top. It has no markings on it. The other is a round flat topped thing about the size of a brake slave cylinder but only an inch or less in height. It has the markings 8n-10 Kn/m2 and PTR 3000 on it. Does this sound like an oil pressure Sensor? Either way it's not the correct one for my gauge but I would like to know what they are before I bin themy Thanks Kevin

Why the heck do you think you deserve as much or more than somebody who has spent their last twenty years watching jeremy kyle or slaving away on their playstation. Honestly just because you've been serving queen and country instead of soaking up all the benefits you can. Seriously though your service record should help you surely. Plenty of driving jobs out there if you have the right licenses, if you want to do it though. They pay well too. Of course you may have another trade. I wish you well in what every you do.

Definitely worth putting an immobiliser in if you can. By their nature they are easier to steal than tin tops and people don't always steal them because they need them but just for the hell of it and if that is the case they generally set fire to them afterwards.

Probably best to put some newspaper down the back of your trousers in case you get spanked. He will soon sort you out and get you on the road again.
