  1. As the others have said heat wrap makes a lot of difference. Some say that It causes the manifold to rust but I have just unwrapped my old one and there is no rust on it. Getting the hot air out will make a lot of difference too, bonnet vents are cheap enough. I used stainless steel marine ones, they look OK and more importantly work well. You won't be able to completely get rid of the heat as some will be conducted through the metal panels and chassis but you will be able to make a big difference with a bit of effort. One other thing, if you wrap the exhaust manifold you will push the heat further down the system so watch your legs when you get Out!
  2. The letter to the kit car magazine is your best bet I reckon as people like to know the history of their cars. Well I do anyway. I have a 1956 fordson tractor of which I am the third owner, it has always resided half a mile from where it was sold new. Good luck with the search, let us know if you have any success.
  3. A Milestone! Doesn't seem like five minutes since you started it. Good luck with the test
  4. Performance similar on both, looks a matter of personal preference, sound webers best and as for economy you had best stick with what you have already as neither will be an improvement. I am guessing webers would be worse. Do you need to change yours to get more Power? If your engine is not a high spec one you may not need to change to get the best out of it. 500 quid seems a lot never mind 900 if you won't gain anything. Don't forget you will need a rolling road session to get the best out of whatever you fit, more cost
  5. Auto silicone hoses sell hose bungs which are just pieces of pipe with ends on. I am going to use one on an unused heater outlet pipe to provide an easy drain outlet. They are available in different colours and sizes and they are Cheap!
  6. Thanks guys, installed the correct way round
  7. I am about to fit a new gearbox spigot bearing on my replacement redtop engine and have noticed that the needles don't extend all the way to end of the bearing casing. The rest of the casing appears to have a seal at the end so which way round should it be fitted, seal towards the engine or toward the Gearbox? Also should the bearing be greased at All? Obviously I don't want any grease getting on the clutch plate.
  8. I have federal 595 on my car. Haven't really put a lot of miles on them yet but they grip well in the dry. I was told that they lacked the ultimate grip of the toyo in the dry but are better in the wet.
  9. A quick measure sees it at roughly 20 high,20 wide and 90cm long. Not accurate to the millimetre but I can do that if you want. I thought they would probably vary from car to car like everything else. I can't help with the sender aperture as I used a different size one so had to use an adapter plate and that was the very devil to get sealed because of the imperfections of the surface so I am not uncovering that Again! Let me know if you need anything else measured as I am in the garage for the next three days.
  10. We were always told the last thing to do at the end of a days work with a tractor was to top the fuel tank up to reduce the risk of condensation forming.
  11. I looked at the one way fuel valves and decided that I couldn't really justify the asking price. What I wanted was a breather that could breath but not let any fuel out if there was an accident that left the car inverted. After a bit of research I fitted a long piece of hose that came higher than the top of the fuel so that fuel couldn't come out in normal use and then went down below the bottom of the tank so that the end would be higher than the tank if the car was upside down. Fixed it all in place with cable ties. I made sure that the end is not inside the car and away from the exhaust or anything else that could damage it
  12. Unless you plan to take the tank out and clean it out properly just make sure you fit an in-line disposable filter. My tank was full of silt of various origins and rusty as well so I took it out and shook out as much muck as I could then put a few handfuls of fine gravel and shook that around for an hour or so until my arms felt like they were dropping off. Rinsed it out with diesel then a bit of petrol, left it to evaporate then put a vacuum cleaner nozzle in to get any remaining dust and then treated it with POR fuel tank sealer.inside still looks perfect after several years. Lot of work but worth it. The senders are not too expensive just make sure you get the right resistance to match the gauge. You can get adjustable length ones and I bent mine lots of times until I got a meaningful gauge reading
  13. For the sake of marital bliss please take the washing up out first.
  14. The one you don't fill up through, which I presume is the radiator can be a blank cap. My radiator is lower than my header tank so I never use it has the blank cap on. Doesn't really explain your problem unless one of the seals in the caps has failed.
  15. Is the cap on the radiator just a blanking cap. You certainly don't need two ordinary ones
  16. It shouldn't come on all the time if you are moving and even then it should shut off once it has cooled enough. I presume there is no sign of overheating on the temperature gauge. It may be that the switch or sensor has failed, I had to put a new one on my car. I will leave the wiring instruction to somebody else as everything on my car is wired through a kill switch so key out means no Electrics!
  17. Good advice given by the others. Once you have got it started and home it might be a good time to have a fiddle with the fuel sender. Make sure the sender and gauge are compatible and then you can adjust by bending the sender wire. I put a known amount of fuel in and then adjusted the sender until it was accurate. You won't achieve the same accuracy you will in a normal road car but making sure it reads correctly at a particular level will stop you running out again. Mine reads best at quarter to half so if I start it up straight away I know if I need to fill up or not. Alternatively if the weather is as nice there as it is here, fill it up and go for a drive you can always mess about with it when it's Raining!
  18. Dave, if you need a spare ticket for anybody else they can take my place as my car is still in bits. I thought I would make it but there has been a delay with the clutch. Thought I'd post it up here so somebody else can go instead if they want. I may still go with the family anyway in conventional transport.
  19. Don't see why not. Go in the car just in case, you'd be hard pushed to have gone round the clock back to your current mileage. They will change it I am sure, everybody makes mistakes.
  20. Shocking performance. We should do better than this. Iceland played very well considering they only had a population slightly bigger than that of Coventry to choose from. We just couldn't cope with their style of play. As for the long throw in, did they not watch footage of their Opponents? I would give them more of a chance against France than we would have had. Good luck to them. I suppose I can't ask for everything I have had one exit from Europe that I wanted and one that I didn't in the last week.
  21. Put that up around here and you would have workers from the carrot packers knocking at your door wanting to rent a room. Nice colour, probably get some nice matching curtains.
  22. Now we can sit back and watch it all crumble. What's the idea of the online petition. is that being set up by the people who couldn't bothered to vote the first time because they thought they didn't need to or they didn't know there was a referendum. It certainly seems to get people going especially my sister after my younger brother started to wind her up. My sister in law has thrown a wobbly too, ranting all over Facebook apparently. I say that's democracy for you
  23. My mot tester who races stock cars says you can get a brand new crated zetec for about 650 pounds. Sounds like a lot of money but it's not for a brand new engine. You could buy a second hand unit for 100 quid and have it go bang first time out. Now it sounds like a good deal doesn't It? A properly run in and cared for new engine would last a good long time in one of these cars.
  24. There's going to be a lot head scratching in Europe too as to where the portion of money that the UK pays is going to come from when we leave. Do you think the remaining countries who actually pay in are going to want to suck that Up? I don't think so. Who will be the next country to want to Leave?
