  1. You want to be careful, dvla will be after you for not taxing or sorning them
  2. Fuel vapour in the fuel tank will be way too rich to ignite. As already said take the battery leads off and stuff a piece of rag in to the top of the tank to stop your fag ash dropping in!
  3. Hi Steve, I think there was a post on here recently about suspension touching the inside of the wheels, do a search of the forums and you should find it.
  4. Now then ask yourselves what colour were her eyes?
  5. Just got back from little gransden, very crowded but as we got there early we got a good spot against the fence line. Fantastic to see the two lancasters together. The vulcan was brilliant too, I could feel the vibration through my feet, my wife said that was why she was sitting down! The series 7 went well too, it was good to get out in it again and I feel confident enough to just take it out and enjoy driving it rather than worrying about temps and strange noises. Got a petrol leak from either the sender, filler or breather pipe so I think the tank will have to come out sooner rather than later.
  6. Both Lancasters and a vulcan will be flying at Little Gransden air show tomorrow. Show sold out online and there are no tickets available at the gate. Luckily I have my car booked in as an exhibit. Flying starts at one so keep an eye out if you are in the vicinity.
  7. Weight equals traction. I have an aircraft tug that weighs about 4.5 tons fully ballasted. Its only small but has cast wheels, ballasted tyres, wheel weights and belly weights. Designed to tow Lancaster bombers
  8. The biggest you can fit in. I am using the one gbs sell for the zero purely because the outlet and inlet are in the same place as the old one
  9. For my wifes Spartan Premium Choice undercut all the other insurers we tried (Flux,Pickles etc) I use them for my Unimog too and may see if they can do better than NFU for my vintage tractors this year as their premium has jumped.
  10. After dragging a 5 berth caravan to Devon and back with a Honda CRV my mountain bike feels fast

    Speeding

Having just looked at your profile I am going to assume that your friend is the same sort of age as you, meaning that he fits in to the group that I see (as a firefighter) who have the most single vehicle accidents ie males 25 and under. I expect all of us have exceeded the speed limit and probably a large percentage have fallen foul of the law at some stage(myself included) or other but with modern speed cameras this sort of speed is asking for trouble. To set cruise control at this speed even on a motorway shows a disregard for the law which does not bode well! Could well be a useful if expensive lesson.
  12. Welcome to the rhocar caravan club
  13. My wife has gone to work in hers today, I am left at home with a sick six year old. She seems to be much more at ease with her car than I was. Probably because she knows I will come and get her if there's a problem and what you don't know about you can't worry about
  14. Never but it gets better. I have only just stopped looking at the temp gauge Constantly after two years
  15. Are you going to kimbolton on Sunday Dave?
  16. Anything that fits the carb and goes under the bonnet really
  17. Can you fit trumpet socks on the carbs, thats what I did. They were about 50 quid for a set of four. Plenty of bike cans on ebay, something like a fireblade should suffice I would have thought as they are designed to flow a lot more gas than a car engine. I got one to put on a pinto engined sylva sometime in the future, think I paid about thirty quid for it.
  18. Pictures of carb. As you can see there is not much clearance between the original pan cleaner and the bonnet. When I took it off there was only about 7cm between the top of the carb and the bonnet. Knowing what type of carb it is would help me. Over to you.
  19. Its the twin choke carb, Hard to tell without taking the filter off which I will do tomorrow morning but it seems to be about 10cm.
  20. What non original air filter are people using on their pinto engines? My wifes Spartan needs a new one as the original looks as if it has been dropped on a hot manifold and now the top cover doesn't fit. My wife would like something shiny whereas I would like something easily maintained. Performance is not really an issue as long as it is no worse than the original! regards Kevin
  21. My wifes Spartan is mkiv Cortina subframe. Looks like an awful lot of iron under it. I may be getting more familiar with it during the winter as some of the bushes are looking very tired so I guess I will replace the whole lot at once. Does anybody know if they would be available in poly versions?
  22. yep about five or six quid if I remember correctly. Stick on ones
  23. Good spot that, Andy. I was wondering what they were off and now I have been able to order a spare rear lens to replace the one with the reflector missing. We were supposed to going to Hollowell for a day out today but as we were out last Sunday picking this car up we decided we should stay at home today and catch up on the gardening. Now the plan is to make a start on re-trimming the interior of the Spartan and then take both cars out for a run!
  24. I agree, once the engine is up to temperature the fan will come on fairly promptly at idle or when crawling along. There is little or no airflow without forward motion in these types of cars and the engine is heavily enclosed. Top marks for persistence, I remember it didn't take me long to get thoroughly hacked off with water all over the garage floor!
