  1. Well, if you found someone with a 3D printer, they'd probably also be able to edit the files and make holes? But you'll have to find them first...

    Engine rattle

A few years ago I had something similar; a Zetec engine so may be different to you but this post has some good diagnostic techniques that helped me: https://zerolifebuild.blogspot.com/2018/08/not-under-pressure.html My issue was low oil pressure caused by a badly made oil pickup in the sump which led to big end bearing wear. Took me 3 months to work it out, though...
  3. I had a friend 3D print me a shroud - you're welcome to have the STL files if you have or know someone who has, a 3D printer? It is for a Sierra column with no stalks:

    Devon road trip

Thanks Bob - hope you have a good one. For ULEZ, just move house

    Devon road trip

Just back from a short road trip to Devon - details in my blog, if you're interested: https://zerolifebuild.blogspot.com/2023/04/delicious-devon.html
  6. Yeah, I can pick it up...
  7. OK, I'll check again in a few weeks or so and if you're both still in, I'll request a stand (may be too late, we'll see). If we get one, maybe Foz, you can pickup a club flag from someone on your way down? I know committee members who have them all live up your way...
  8. Actually, I found them very helpful. They initially gave me a Q plate because I was too honest and wrote 'refurbished' on one of the forms I sent in, whereas GBS normally wrote 'new' on there instead. I re-sent the form and they changed it to a new age-related plate, no argument.
  9. Don't expect a response from the DVLA - I've spoken to them before and they're admin people who don't have any understanding or interest in cars.
  10. Doh!! Yeah, 2nd might be better...
  11. Anyone interested in attending this show? http://www.berkshiremotorshow.co.uk/index.htm Looks pretty small so I'm not expecting wonders but could be a fun day out and one of the few weekends I've got free. If a few of us are interested, I'll request a club stand. It's all for charity so the only entry fee is a voluntary donation. Please let me know if you're interested...
  12. Well, I hope it's upside down otherwise I've got mine on the wrong way round
  13. I had the same problem but easily solved - get a laser alignment done on the front wheels and make sure you have them either dead straight or with a slight amount of toe-in. I just squeezed through IVA and then had the alignment done afterwards. I got a mate to do it with one of those DIY kits he had - I tried to go to a pro but he couldn't get his kit underneath my wheel arches.
  14. When I did mine, my master cylinder has only 3 outputs; 1 to the rear, 2 to the front and nothing else - looks like this: I've got a set of stalks (without any wires) if you're interested? I never used them because I could never find the wiring to go with them....message me if you are interested.
  15. I doubt IVA is that specific - there was definitely no mention when I did mine. I wouldn't worry about rattling bits of rivet - you're never going to hear it above wind/engine/tyre noise. I assume you mean self-tappers? They'll be a pain to remove if you need to and difficult to re-use the same hole.
  16. Has anyone painted their own car with something like this? I know about wrapping - tried that, never again! I was prompted by the Overdrive video that Rich was involved in - looks like a pretty decent job for a low ish price? I'm guessing it depends on the preparation more than the equipment but would cheap kit like this be good enough? I'm not expecting a pro finish but my ally panels are starting to look a bit naff and I fancy a solid colour. Thoughts?
  17. Strictly, my kit is the worst car I've ever owned; had a few breakdowns, stuff fallen off, leaks, noisy, uncomfortable etc. Unfortunately, complaining to the manufacturer hasn't helped Otherwise, I've been lucky to never have a bad car IMO; slow (most of them), dull (Honda Stream), ugly (old Hyundai Santa Fe) but never bad. I've normally avoided the main manufacturers (Ford, Vauxhall, Citroen, Peugot etc) and mostly had Japanese, which may be the secret...
  18. I guess 14 years since this thread was started is enough to get a whole new generation of answers First car in 1991 was a 10 year old VW Polo - 895cc of ...er... power. Added bigger wheels from a Golf (which rubbed on the bodywork) and that most luxurious of items, headrests from a scrappy... Given to my brother a few years later who swapped it for a round of drinks - last heard of as the car used in a car mechanics course at a college in Wales.
  19. OK, sent... In that email, it references a bracket that the bottom half attaches to. Pics of that are in this blog post (the U-shaped piece): https://zerolifebuild.blogspot.com/2017/01/gunk-tortillas.html
  20. Sure, let me know your email address...
  21. I got a mate of mine to 3D-print me one but it doesn't have holes for stalks - however, I have the STL file for this , if it helps? You could get someone to print it for you and then cut out holes, maybe?
  22. I dont think engine speed when starting has anything to do with the spark- it's all about the starter motor. As Bob says, earth's are the first thing to check but I had the same problem (on my Zetec) and it proved to be a dodgy starter motor. Replaced it and all good.

    Testing

So I can now post but not send PMs...weird
  24. Yeah but he never had to scrabble on his hands and knees through bits of old tape/swarf/oil to find that 10 mil socket he'd just dropped through the engine bay
