  1. +1 This looks lile a real bargain for a drive away car. A few more pictures might help it sell, good luck with the sale.
  2. I've had our aerdynamicist at work looking at this and he confirmed that the drag / frontal area comparison would even out the high cd of the kit and the greater frontal area of the Sierra. The fact that some kit go faster in 4th gear then 5th suggests that the drag is a big factor because the car needs to be revving higher (nearer peak power) to reach Vmax. This probably explains why my car runs out of steam at about 85mph in 5th (on my private stretch of road) but would possible go faster in 4th.
  3. Can someone please explain to me how a 2B with a standard Pinto and an MT75 (which I'm not sure was ever fitted to the Pinto but that's no matter), would be as fast or even faster than a Sierra given the shocking aerodynamics of a 2B compared to very (in it's day) slippery Sierra.
  4. Top day out, well worth the trip up from Tamworth. Hopefully future meetings will be as well attended. Thanks to Alan for organising it.
  5. My paper round was downhill.
  6. I'm 48, what's their excuse? No claims in the last 20 years either.
  7. I'm currently with Frank Pickles and seeing some of the other quotes on here I feel like I've been fisted with studded glove!!! Not sure exactly how much I'm currently paying but over £200. I'll be shopping around at renewal time. On a similar note, my buildings and contents insurance is due next week and my renewal premium was £409 with Directline. I got the same cover from AXA through confused.com for £290 so I phoned Directline to cancel my renewal. 5 minutes later after some frenetic keyboard tapping noises they'd re-quoted me £263 because they'd applied a "loyalty discount" - yeah right, that'll be the secret discount that they only apply when customers rumble them and realise they're taking the pi55.
  8. The nightbreakers are good, obviously better than a standard H4 but the root cause of your poor lighting is the tiny reflector you get in a 4" lamp unit. Swapping the bulbs will be better, but probably not significantly so. Also, they run quite a bit hotter so they won't last as long - probably not a concern though,
  9. Only the new style V5, not the old ones. The information on an IVA application form has most of the information, someone on here who's IVA'd an Exmo should have the info, failing that, figures for a 2B will probably be close enough.
  10. Aaargh - my eyes! They look great, can't wait to see them on the car.
  11. Wasn't old_timbo selling kits for this: http://www.rhocar.org/index.php?showtopic=24927 might be worth sending a pm.
  12. So paying £15 to join and posting it in the appropriate area might be a worthwhile investment then.
  13. Is this something you're selling? If it is then really should be here: http://www.rhocar.org/index.php?showforum=17 and should comply with the For Sale rules. Apart from that, it looks like you've done some very good work.

    Is This Ok For Iva

No picture sadly but the test device is a 100mm sphere in a stick (50mm radius and it's normally not a complete sphere because a hemisphere is usually adequate to contact the relevant areas). Any exterior edge that can be touched with the surface of the sphere must have a radius of curvature greater that 2.5mm. If the contactable edge protrudes less than 5mm from the main surface (like a badge) then the edge only needs to be blunted. Functional grilles only need to have their edges blunted - but they must be functional i.e. admit air for cooling or induction. If they're decorative then they need to have the 2.5mm minimum radius (virtually impossible to achieve with a normal mesh type grille). The entire area inside a zone bounded by 4 wishbones is exempt now where it wasn't for SVA so on a 2B or a Zero, the adjustable spring platforms and damper setting nuts don't beed to be blunted or radiussed. Interior projections are broadly similar but the sphere is 165mm not 100mm and there are various zones where differing measurements are taken. Soft parts (dash, interior trim etc) don't need any radius as long as they are less than 50 Shore hardness (about the same as a normal pencil rubber). That's the very basic requirements, Section 16 of the IVA manual covers the Exterior in finer detail and other specific cases (and Section 12 for the Interior stuff).
  21. Might try and make it over if it stays dry but it won't be until 8-00 at the earliest. Also, the area meet notice in Events still has the meeting as every last Wednesday so needs updating.
  22. Standard 3 point belt is OK for IVA as long as the mountings are strong enough. Any OEM 3 point belt will have a label stitched onto the end of the webbing with a E mark on it to show it's approved (although obviously in a different application). Get a photo of the label, it might not be easily visible with the belt installed.
  23. V627/1 Built Up Vehicle Report form - although as there's no longer any DVLA offices open to do the inspection it may be irrelevant but I'd fill one out and sent it anyway. It'll help them decide whether you get an age related, Q or new registration.
  24. If it was me doing it, I'd start off by getting myself a big polished stainless steel wok or a shallow stainless roasting tin. I'd cut in in half so it was open at the back (or front) to let the air in and then I'd get the tin snips out and trim it so it matched the bonnet profile. Bit of small chrome edge trim around the cut adges and rivetted on with a couple of tabs underneath.
