Just fitted a Duratec from a Fiesta ST150 to my 2B, I think the only difference from the Mondeo engine is a solid flywheel, and a larger throttle body, which is not much use to us as it means the engine will sit 4-5 inches further forward because of its position from the manifold. This is not a problem when fitting ITB's . You can pick up a reasonable engine for around £500, but the sundries you need to fit it will  more than quadruple this figure, ie bell housing, sump, water rail, throttle bodies, ecu, etc

Thamks Colin. That's the sort of info I needed. Also make the ST not worth going for? Do you know if the head or internals are any better than standard?

I am fitting it to an mx5 gearbox which I am reliably informed bolts straight up and can use the MX clutch and flywheel setup

I think for a 250bhp 2.5 you're looking at cams and probably some light head work so entirely doable, but certainly not necessary to splash out on fancy internals for road use. A lot of the rally boys use them in Escorts now; some with serious power, naturally (and serious £££).... but others run on a sensible budget and 220-250 horses is nothing to sneeze at for little outlay and nice reliability, particularly considering you'll be mainly road use... I assume :)

edit: Ah, ok, finding a 2nd hand 2.5 in the UK will be a bit of a challenge I suspect, yes. Maybe a 2 litre will be a safer bet.

Exactly. So my thoughts are if he st150 had better rods/frank/ pistons or head it would be a better start. Even if I kept rods and changed pistons for example. Just dont have enough info to make that decision.

I keep reading the buttons website for the 2.5 duratecs and then look at the price. Makes Richys v8 conversion look cheap!

If you really are interested, let me know, I can ask my neighbour where to go for a crate engine. He doesn't deal in Duratecs himself, but he will know who in the country does and what the going rate should be ;)

Wallet cant stretch to crete motor so really looking for a second hand.
