Well, that was disappointing.

One of the major classic car shows of the year, lovely driving weather, lots to see, plenty of food stands, proceeds going to charity.   What more do you want ?   Well apparently quite a lot more.    I've just got back from the Kimbolton Classic Car Show, probably over 1000 cars being displayed, and we had been allocated a prime Club Stand right next to the Castle and the SuperCar line up. (and with an Ice Cream Van next door😀)

So how many of our 350+ members turned up ?   Well here's the answer 😐  (Techically it should have been 4 but the Club Chairman only made it half way before he has to turn back with engine problems)

It's a bit depressing, and especially embarrasing for me as I booked the Club Stand in anticipation of a decent turnout

Anyway, we still had a good day and my thanks to AndyW and thespannerman for turning up and supporting us (and Foz for at least trying).  And to the few who apologised in advance with good reasons).

I think I am going to have to stop booking Club Stands in advance until I know that at least a few cars will be turning up.

I was really looking forward to this show and all was going well until somewhere past Uttoxeter when the car developed a scary noise from somewhere under the bonnet (I think) every time I decelerated.  It sound like something has broken and was rattling around but, having driven back home slowly, I spent several hours in, under and round it NOT finding anything !!!

I now know exactly how to get it to make the noise but I still have no idea of what it is.   I'm sure this will probably make a good story when I finally fix it.

Alan, you were lucky - 3 cars!

It was the Powderham Castle Classic Car Show in Devon at the weekend, I had organised a Club area for last year but had to cancel it as no interest so I went as an individual entry. Again this year I was the single club attendee.

wo Robin Hoods (non-members) piggy-backed on the Westfield Car Club site. Must try harder next year.  I like the idea of the ice cream van = Is that what is known as a "Cateringvan"?

If it's only happening when the diff is pushing check the drivers engine mount, or gearbox

Sorry wrong way around, if you are standing at the front on the car & the engine is spinning clockwise, then all the pressure is on the passenger side engine mount as it tries to compress that mount as you accelerate, but as you lift off/decelerate it tries to compress the drivers & lift the passengers, if that mount has gone it will allow the engine to move. Problem is you might not see it at standstill you may have to get a pry bar in.

Thanks for the suggestion,  I thought the same, I'd had problems with the engine "coughing" and I thought it had probably ripped a mount apart. I did find that some of the bolts would tighten up a smidge but nothing else - the rubber bits of all the mounts were new last new month when the engine & box went back in.  I've even tried lifting the engine until the front wheels of the car are off the ground and all seems OK so I don't think it's the mounts.

What I really need is somebody to sit in the engine bay while I drive it, to see where the noise actually comes from 🤪

All being well I've got a day to myself on Wednesday so I'll give it a good session of looking at and see what I can find.

You may joke, but I have 2 recollections of being a young lad sitting on the front slam panel of a Ford Corsair 200E V4 being driven around the estate by my father, I have no idea exactly what I was doing there, but presumably looking for something moving as he drove. The other one is being put in the boot of a Ford Consul I think it was to try to work out where the knocking was coming from as again he drove around, seem to remember a very dim torch. 🤣😂 or was that a very dim son

Damn, that is sad, especially in the Midlands where so many of our members are. This is part of the reason why I recently sold my kit - there is no-one down South who seems interested in meeting up. I don't mind driving on my own but, occasionally, it would be good to meet others. I regularly see kit cars out on their own but they are mostly Caterham's who probably wouldn't be on here anyway.

TBF, it's pretty much always been like that down here - sad to see it spreading up north though.

Unfortunately they moved the date a few years back and it now falls at the beginning of the school holidays. Therefore many members who have families are probably away

We used to enjoy it before
