  1. I think I stumbled across it before and like the idea of doing it when I get bored of the look of the Zero.....just lack the skills at the moment lol but would definitely like a link to read in detail (its very quiet at work and ebay is getting dangerous lol)
  2. I have just purchased one for my V6 engine swap. I was all for it and found a decent well reviewed one from USA, unfortunately I found that as I went to purchase, they had sold out 3 weeks earlier with no intention for redoing a new batch in the future. That led me to really read up on it as I was looking like if I wanted one, it was going to be easily at least 3 times the cost. I decided that for £300+ it wasn't worth it and the standard flywheel would be fine, however I then found they had done another batch and snapped one up for £100 delivered from the USA. Would always buy a new lightweight and never lighten a standard one, far to many stories of exploding flywheels. I can't comment on performance nor the difference between standard vs steel lightweight from personal experience, but everything I have read the cons are commonly all about drive-ability and advise its not worth it for a daily driver. So my theory was, Zero is not a daily, its a lightweight sports car I intend to trackday a lot more, my driving style/ability really does need improving (also on the list via trackdays etc).So basically the cons are more of a "you need to accept this and adapt/drive around it". Simple thing to do in my opinion... Plus as I'm doing a swap and rebuild, its the perfect time, I have no intention of doing any other swap in this car afterwards. If you're planning a Pinto to Zetec swap in the near future, I'd save it for that as everything will already be out and easily changed.
  3. Mine was some cheap easy ebay stuff, with the air release channels, however you'll still find air pockets forming....they're just easier to squeeze out as you go. Its help up well but on the bonnet and scuttle, stone chips are rare if not no existent. It does handle the rain and a wash/wipe down well and is making me consider whether I should paint the car or wrap it...
  4. That was a quick decision! My advice would be: a mate, a hair-drier, and a credit card/something similar. I managed to do my bonnet and scuttle by myself but would have been much easier to apply using an extra pair of hands or two. The hair-drier helps make it easier to apply and the credit card helps to flat it/smooth the airbubbles out. If you can't get all the air out. a sharp craft knife or pin prick will help and it won't even be noticeable. Also prep is everything, any dirt or dust on the panel will get shown up once the wrap goes over it. Oh, and start on the smaller panels to get to grips understanding. Less waste if you go wrong or decide after doing a few bits that you can get it better
  5. I'll be there, quite likely with the Zero for the last time in its current format......

    Leg Room

Wide open throttle to straighten the other then
  7. I used mild steel for a frame then got a local trimming place to sew up the fabric. All in all cost less than £100 for the pair and I got my own custom design/colour etc. There's a little section on it in my blog: http://zachsgbszero.blogspot.co.uk/2015/01/the-neglected-blog-catch-up-post.html
  8. I have 15x8 wheels fitted with 215/50/R15 tyres at the front and had to readjust my standard cycle wings to fit. See this post (and the previous of getting them fitted) http://zachsgbszero.blogspot.co.uk/2015/06/yet-again-blog-forgotten.html I wouldn't go any wider and currently considering changing the fronts down to either 205s or even 195s. I say considering....I will be doing that, its just deciding which
  9. Isn't it standard practice to get an MX5 as a member of Rhocar? Lol. In which case I have a lovely Mk1 1.6 in need of a new home and some TLC....can come with lots of spares too haha
  10. I'm quite keen to try this too. I really want the proximity type or key slot that activates the power to then flick on with individual swtiches eg. fuel pump, injection, etc. Then have a start button either secretly hidden away somewhere to turn the engine over. Its currently sounding stupidly complicated however someone is bound to tell me shortly it's really simple....especially if I'm looking at making up my own loom from scratch in this rebuild......
  11. Mine was from eBay. Cheap, easy and does the trick. Had it since passing IVA in Feb 2014 and still going strong.
  12. Everyone knows these tests aren't real world tests. One cycle was something like accelerate 20mph to 60mph in 30 seconds. Who accelerates that slow? MPG is also calculated from these tests too arent they? Should I take Alfa Romeo to court for compensation over quoting 25mpg average when I'm seeing 20mpg average? Don't be silly (unless you're a lawyer and will do this all for me no win, no fee? haha) End of the day the defeat device is for the testing, real world experience won't change. If you bought a diesel for the mpg, you will still see the same mpg. Whack VW with a bill for the difference their proper map puts out, save on the recall (why bother spending time and money removing a defeat device that's only active under test???), big hefty fine too for good measure. Re-design the test to bring it up to date and realistic. No one sees the MPG figures quoted, why would emissions be any different?
  13. I got my digital speedo from this place. Good range and very fast delivery. Possibly more tailored towards bikes though http://www.digital-speedos.co.uk/
  14. Surprisingly my rebuild is still to fully start so quite possibly in the Zero...if I remember to get fuel....I'll be there kit car or not
  15. I wonder if this had anything to do with it.... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-coventry-warwickshire-34327038
  16. When I was a student, me and my flatmate told them we only used a TV monitor for games consoles/PC use. They stopped harassing us after that and never even came to verify our situation. We had anticipated a visit due to having "a device capable of receiving live TV" but it never came until a letter asking if our circumstances had changed which even then had the threatening language explaining all the court action and fines if we hadn't told them of a change. Strange how if you don't acknowledge them they continue to harass you and threaten court action and investigations but as soon as you say "Yes, I have a TV but don't watch live TV" they stop....I had admitted to owning a TV but it's ok because all of a sudden my word means something to them?
  17. You won't have enough power in that Pinto to do much damage .....hence rotary
  18. Nah it will be continued through a rotary swap power lol

    Garage

At that rate you may as well put a minibar and chandelier in too!
  20. Halfords will make a plate up off the insurance document who only need you to tell them what it is. It's what I did but I don't know how legit it was though. I got the call from the DVLA saying the registration number and then was straight on the phone with my insurance then once they emailed the insurance cert I printed it off and was driving later that day. It did take the Highway around a month before they could find the car on the database though
  21. No problem, I understood it as ideas to expand to appeal to the variety of members at the club (some like to chill and chat, others may like an autocross style competition as well - away from the other activities of course, health and safety and all that) was just a thought for those who have a competitive streak/want to play with their cars too. Eitherway, from what everyone is saying anyway it sounds like it was pretty much spot on as it is
