  1. Logically to get it to run you don't need any ignition barrel, keys or dash cluster, but you do need an ECU & probably a bit more of a harness. Do you have the coil packs? ME221 would probably do, there are some Arduino based ECU's around, just depends on youe skill levels
  2. Doesn't matter now, Newark/Lincoln has been Cancelled "It is with great regret that we announce that the Lincoln Kit Car Show has been cancelled. We had hoped that the move from Newark to Lincoln would have been a good one for the show but unfortunately there has not been enough interest from trade to justify running the show."
  3. That's the same weekend as the Newark Kit Car Show in Lincoln
  4. I don't see how you can only buy 1 car, I'd have to buy multiple depending on mood & purpose, but all would have to be used, I hate to see cars sat in museums unused.
  5. Because I'm very impatient, I'd be tempted to just put a 12V live to the power feed of the injectors through a 5A fuse & then spin it over just to see if it makes a difference.
  6. Or buy one of these https://spiyda.com/fuel-gauge-wizard-mk3.html
  7. If I can get the deal done to buy a car this week I'll try to get along
  8. What time does it start only ever been to their Friday night ones
  9. Are you in a position to be able to try tow starting that would eliminate a slow starter, as to earth lead just use a jump lead from the negative on the battery direct to the engine.
  10. We clearly live in different worlds, I couldn't ever imagine spending £16K on a kit car, TBH I'm currently looking at changing our main car & our budget on that is £16K I ended up selling my last kit car as at £6K sat on my drive was causing me issues with it not being used. But each to their own, maybe I live to much in the past in the 'good ole days' to put that in perspective, I can remember being able to go into a pub, buy 3 pints & 3 packets of crisps & still get a penny change.
  11. Point 5 guys, you're doing a great job, you are not alone in this, it just seems to be the way it is these days, if the members want to have something different they should get off their arses & do it, but they won't.
  12. I was there Friday/Saturday minus a kit car as I currently don't have one, it's slowly getting better, to me there was more cars there on Saturday than last year, which had more cars than the year before, but it's a hard thing to do, the young just don't seem interested in building kits & the manufacturers are charging so much money. Without trying to insult RH owners, Dutton, MEV & RH were always the lower end of the market, there is nobody in that space anymore, the MEV Exocet starting at £5500+vat & Dutton coming back at a whopping £9975+vat is beyond the budget builder, or at least it it to me. I bought my Dutton in 1979 for £650 a website I found says thats £3600 in todays money. In some ways it's very sad times,
  13. Before he starts down the road he needs to find the details of a similar kit car to what he wants to build, then he needs to ring Howden, Adrian Flux & Graham Sykes to see if at 18 or as he hasn't started maybe tell them he's 20 & see if he can get insurance. I know I couldn't get add my son onto my insurance until he was 25 (I think) It would be a shame to spend all the time on building a car to not be able to drive it.
  14. Bearing in mind it's a while since I worked with anything that had a 'basic' ignition firing system virtually everything I've worked on in the last 20 years has been electronic. But how about going back to basics, turn the engine until your rotor arm is pointing towards one of the leads, (doesn't matter which one) pull out the plug, ground it with the lead attached, make sure the king lead is attached between the coil & the dizzy cap. Put a 12V feed direct to your coil, then take another lead from the negative & touch ground, don't hold it to ground just touch it. As you do that the plug should spark, if it does you've proved coil, king lead, rotor arm, Dizzy cap, plug lead & plug, so a good chunk of the circuit out of the way, if it doesn't you need to look at those components.
  15. There are multiple options, put kit on trailer, come without kit, or do as I am doing keep hoping a kit is available to buy before then & drive there in it.
  16. Prior to a date (unknown to me) you could make up your own VIN & there was no specific requirement other than unique, then they introduced the 17 digit rule, so you have 2 options either add 2 extra digits at one of the other end, maybe add UK? Or you can remove the 15 digit number completely & ask DVLA to issue a number number.
  17. Why is there no 'Like' option for this post?
  18. You are saying you are using a resistor in the circuit, have you tried just using a 5W bulb, it could be that your circuit is not drawing enough current until the revs increase or the voltage drops. Caveat I am not an expert or even claim to know much about it, But as I understand it the alternator dumbly measures the voltage on the direct from battery wire, it compares that with the voltage on the wire that goes via the Exciter bulb it then uses these values as to whether it needs to charge or not. If the Exciter wire is not connected, the bulb blown, or it's not drawing enough current it can't do that, so doesn't charge. When we used to use Acewell dash's we used to either hide a 5W bulb behind the dash painted black, or add a resistor the value of which now escapes me, but I did think it bigger than 86ohm.
  19. Input?
  20. Not au fait with oil catch tanks but surely if you are taking a feed from the crankcase to the tank, then another from the oil cap to the tank then that is no difference to putting a straight pipe between them & creating a closed system. Surely one of the pipes either needs to either vent to atmosphere or go into the induction system.
  21. There are a set of carb balancing gauges for sale on FaecesBook in Lincoln
  22. Too far away from anybody I could recommend
  23. Take it somewhere that can balance them or buy a set of vacum gauges to balance them
  24. Personally I would put a very thin smear of RTV on both sides of the gasket, I know it's not supposed to be needed but it can't hurt.
  25. This seems like a, if it isn't broke then fix it until it is type of question.
