  1. Not the commonest carb but there was one for sale here which appears to have a filter. Might be worth a call. https://www.rhocar.org/index.php?/forums/topic/49288-garage-clear-out/&tab=comments#comment-402953
  2. Buy that that switch and get your mot. Trying to swap to different stalks and the horn to the steering wheel isn't going to be a quick job and could easily end in tears. For context, I've just done something similar and it got very messy.
  3. Under the bonnet gets hot, not the ideal place to be storing fuel. Why not use a combined tank and swirl pot and fit it in the tank. This is a Landrover unit mounted in my tank.
  4. Unfortunately not, as I didn't get any response I've started to use it in anger and get my money's worth out of it.

    VIN

That's the IVA application form not the actual test standard so if they test it to the letter of the standard, it needs to be on the right hand side. Just goes to show DVSA don't know their own rules. I think the point of stating the position on the form is to save them having to go hunting for the VIN if it's not where they expect it to be.

    VIN

Right hand side as viewed from the rear, so driver's side on RHD car.

    VIN

VIN can be stamped directly to chassis. It needs to be on a non-removable part, on the right hand side and minimum 3.5mm high characters. If your chassis is stainless, you need to give it a good wallop to stamp it.
  8. Original Sierra efi manifold, injectors and fuel rail would be a good start. Initially you could use the Sierra ECU if you were on a budget, but you'd probably want to swap to a mappable ECU once you put the turbo on. theduck has a wealth of knowledge and will be able to advise.
  9. I'm a few hours early this time but I'm posting now while I've got the time. As usual January has been our busiest month for memberships as we have a lot of renewals from the old calendar year memberships. I don't normally list the renewals but I'd like to thank the 60 odd people who've chosen to renew in January. It's a difficult time for everyone and it's great to have your support as we look forward to a return to normality. Welcome along to the following new members who joined this month: James T Jthorneuk Weston Super Mare Nick W Nick Wilson Boston David G DPG Peterborough Lee P sleeky Biggleswade Nick A Nic Bury Ashley S Ash1985 Chelmsford Shaun S Shaun A S Woodbridge Hilary W toriitom Crumlin Don't be shy, we'd like to see you getting stuck in on the forum. A quick reminder also that if you have a project or article that you think might be of interest in the magazine, contact the editor Neil magazine@rhocar.org or message @nelmo on here. Don't worry too much about format, grammar etc, Neil can help with that if you need.
  10. That's the rear beam mounts. They just bolt through the flat part of the chassis. You still have the rubber mounts there with the big washers that have a tendency to ground out. If this is a problem, you can remove the rubber insert and weld a flat plate to the rear beam and bolt through a spacer but it's quite a big job to do. This is how I did mine.
  11. Define best. Best power, best value, best driveability? Personally, I think bike carbs take some beating for value and driveability. Throttle bodies would need an ECU to control them which probably puts them at the top in cost terms. I struggle to find good things to say about twin Weber's, while I'm sure people do get them to work, they're old tech now.
  12. If if was bought in 2010 it might pre-date their plug and play harness and I believe there were 3 versions. Why not call GBS and see if they can identify it? https://www.greatbritishsportscars.com/contactus
  13. Just a few points, your fog light lens should be vertical (easy to do on the day), but it also looks quite low. The bottom of the lens should be at least 250mm above groundline. I can't see the brake fluid sticker near the reservoir. Section 09D part 17 Steering wheel might need a padded centre, the Mountney wheels have failed some tests.
  14. Clearly no shortage of cars for sale, including this which isn't a Robin Hood despite the registration saying it is: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kit-car-Q-plate-zetec-high-spec-robin-hood-Westfield-locost-track-car/184628581705?pageci=2a1ab023-cd09-4346-bdda-195daa6e7a2c
  15. It would probably only matter if you had an accident, made an insurance claim or went for an MOT and they knew what they were looking at so I agree the chances of getting caught are slim. That said, it's still a ringer. Dutton's have been ripe for using their identities to swap to other cars for a good few years when their value was less than the cost of an IVA but who's to say a car wasn't stolen so it's identity could be used. My view is that if we as a club see dubious cars, we should make people aware of the fact.
  16. Autosparks or Premier loom would do equally well but replacing the Sierra stalks will create more work. Personally I like Premier because I've worked with a few of them so I'm familiar with how they're installed. The Sierra switches are quite clever in how they operate both the hazards, and the self parking of the wipers so you need to ensure whatever you replace them with can support the same functionality. I've just finished changing from Sierra switches to some that didn't have the functionality and it's been a lot of work and some clever work with relays.
  17. .In that case there's a small amount of ignition wiring you need to add from the Sierra loom and you'll need to use the Sierra column stalks
  18. What spec is the engine, is it injection or carb?
  19. If the loom isn't in the car, you might find it quicker and easier to bin it and use a loom from Premier Wiring Services or Autosparks. Standard Sierra loom will be old, full of wires you don't need and will still need a fair bit of chopping around. You can get them to work but it's time consuming. If you go with the Sierra loom, the Haynes manual has all the diagrams and all the other information you'll need has been posted here many times, you just need to search for what you want.
  20. Start by having a look here which lists 2.0 Sierra parts and see if anything is similar. Also try 1.6 Sierra. A picture would help to get an exact match. https://brakeparts.co.uk/shop/Ford/Sierra/82-89/Sierra 2.0 OHC Models/Hydraulic Actuation - Master Cylinders and Reg Valves
  21. Maybe their time would be better spent failing cars with illegal number plates.
  22. I have moved the threads that don't appear relevant to the link lightweight to other sections. I'm not planning on making a habit of doing this, there is probably a lot of other historic threads in the wrong sections but it's too big a task to do.
  23. When I cut mine I just marked the cut line on masking tape and cut it with a fine hacksaw blade. After separating the 2 halves of the bonnet, I used the blade in a frame to cut as much as I could and then finished it off with a blade with tape wrapped round the end. You could cut it with a thin grinding disc but I don't think you'd have as much control of the shape of the cut.
  24. New Year already and after all the excitement of the recent festivities, it's time to welcome the following new members who joined in December. Graham M Graham Mann Tonbridge Geoffrey S Doof Northampton Mark H smpaarrkky Newport Raymond K Raymond Kennedy Montrose Steve D Stonky 62 Reading Trevor M Trevor Malvern Craig M Craig Moore Barrow in Furness Remember you can post your location on the Members Map section of the forum which helps to make contact with other members in your areas. The next issue of the club magazine is being put together at the moment. With the lack of events and shows in 2020, there's not much to report on, so we've decided to give paid up Members the chance to have their car pictured in the magazine, together with a few words. Don't delay, more details can be found here, together with an added incentive!!
