    Rewire

The way I look at relays is that they are one more thing that can fail. I have the older switch gear that ford designed to work without relays so I do not have relays and 35 years later they still work with the occasional spray of switch cleaner.

    Led Bulbs

Volt meter might not be reading the battery volts if it shares any wires with other loads. My volt meter reading drops when I switch on my headlights. I have fitted LED bulbs and now it drops less. However using a calibrated meter directly accross the battery the volts only drop 0.04V so I dont worry.
  3. My understanding is that the worm gear on the output shaft is the same for all ratios. The output gears had various numbers of teeth to give the required ratio. The gears were made to have a lot of slack to allow easy swapping depending on fitment, helped by the fact that they pass very little power.

    Rover Head Bolts

Are not KX bolts Kawasaki from japan? If it doews not say Kawasaki I doubt they are Kawasaki.
  5. I have driven several cars which flikered there oil light on corners. Admitedly they were old worn cars. But they kept going for a couple of years after this started. if its is still running OK top up oil and dont fret
  6. I have used similar led H4 bulbs. Getting the aim right (the light spread varies) needed a bit of help from my local MOT station, otherwise a great investment.
  7. My experiance is that sewing is easy but my welding skils need some improvement. YMMV
  8. A square angle in the hood itself tends to flap a lot
  9. I have sewn a lot of bits for my car with a standard sewing machine. At one point there were 7 layers of leather whilst makeing my seats. The main thing is to use propper leather needles when sewing heavy material and take your time letting the machine cool down between runs.
  10. My first reaction is that you have a blown fuse as direct power works. As longboarder says every builder has his (her) own ideas about where to put the fuses. Ian

    Wiper Gear

The Mini wiper arms will require modification to fit the sierra spindles. Mini arms are push fit to parrallel splines whilst the sierra arms are held on tapered spinbles by a nut covered by a captive hinged cover. Both solutions work but both require some adaptation.

    Wiper Gear

I cut down and welded the sierra wiper gear and fitted cut down sierra arms. I bolted cut in half wiper blades to the arms which have lasted 20 years.
  13. Squeal is the belt slipping, we all know that I hope. What is less understood is that the V belt gets its grip on the sides of the pulley. When it slips it wears away the side of the pulley and then bottoms in the pulley, at this point it is near imposible to tighten enough to stop the belt slipping during acceleration. The cure as well as a new belt is a new pulley.
  14. I have never tried them but Wynns and STP make petrol stabilisers for when you store lawm mower fuel over winter. Posibly too late for your current tank of fuel
  15. In the 1930s most cars did not have a water circulating pump and depended on thermocycle to circulate the water. If the top of the radiator is above the top of the engine block and the bottom is level with or below the inlet to the block there will be some thermocycle circulation. The 1930s cars did have the top of the radiator a long way above the top of the engine to achieve good thermocycle circulation. Personally I stop the fan when the engine stops to save the battery.
  16. Yes your coil reading will be in the region of 0.7ohms so it looks good.
  17. Measuring resistance below about 5 ohms realy needs a 4 wire meter to eliminate lead and contact resistence. With a normal 2 wire meter you can guess lead resistance by reading with the leads shorted and taking that reading from the coil reading but you are still approximate. With the points closed the current in the primary (low voltageside) of the coil is building up, when the points open this causes an abrupt change in the current and produces a high voltage in the secondary which breaks down the gas in tthe spark plug gap producing a spark and ignition. A bit simplified and no mention of the compromises required to make the whole thing work.

    Wipers

Screw driver in spring in wiper arm, twist to lengthen spring, job done.

    Clutch Cable Fitting

Yellow/black quadant only releases when clutch pedle is pull up past its normal rest position then quadtant can be moved back against its return spring. Can be a 2 person job depending haw long your arms are. Then cable should easily fit.
  20. The cable will be a sierra cable that is shortened. The outer is standard and the inner is shortened by cutting the end off and swageing a new ferrul on the end. Use the old cable as a guide as how much to shorten
  21. Hot alternator after engine stoped enough to cool down is almost certainly the diode pack having a short. Auto electrician should be able to repair, but a new replacement might not cost much more.
  22. This is normal. Mine shows about 3cm

    New Headlights

You need a pair of diodes, One in each feed line. Suggest 1N4001 from maplins, the white band end of each is connected together and to the side lights. One diode is to the side light switch and the other is from the the fan relay.
  24. I have only done it seperatly, the oil poors out of the back of the gearbox if tilted up and this way I dont get a mess on the garage floor.
