OK Andi, I'll be there from about 7pm and, don't worry, I'll drink your beer for you !

Many unleaded heads have been modified and had hardened seats fitted to the exhaust ports. If you're taking the manifolds off you may be able to look up the port and see if you can spot hardened seats. A "borescope" would be very useful for this but a good torch, a dentist's mirror and possibly standing on your head might get you there.

Have a look at this - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/143548367716 It's small, light and 50 Amps rated. I've bought one of these to replace the standard Ford item on the Cobra. I fitted something similar on the 2B's pinto which worked well. Bear in mind that you'll have to modify the existing brackets to suit and may need to provide a +12V ignition feed to it if your original one doesn't have one.

Sorry Andi, I can't make it last month I'm assuming you mean 23rd May ? but more importantly - who's turn is it to get the beers in ? See you there mate.

Hi Darrell, thanks for your thoughts. Phil's trying to get some idea of interest levels at the moment, so we can see if it's worth proceeding. There are lots of places that do track days so, if there was the interest, we could possibly look at different venues as well. To try and answer some of your comments (I would have to confirm the details with Phil but ...) I would expect that you would get to do multiple runs, each a run of 7 laps. Normally 7 laps flat out and you want a break (so does your car). After each run, I find that by the time you have calmed down, checked your oil & water (possibly your underwear too), and got ready to go again it's already time to form up for the next run. I appreciate what you say about the distance as it is about the same for me. I used to trailer the 2B so didn't need to worry about it surviving so much, but I don't have a trailer for the Cobra so I'd either have to hire one (expensive) or drive it there and back and be a bit more careful. The beauty of Blyton Park is that, as long as you don't go silly, you're unlikely to damage your car. Rain doesn't normally stop play, but I'm not a big fan of a wet track and I tend to wait for it to dry out a bit. Steve

Seems that lots of people have looked at this but nobody has replied - let us know what you think please (good or bad) 'cause we ain't psychic Thanks, Steve

By now all members who opted to have electronic magazine delivery should have received a "pdf" copy, and all others should have received a hard copy, of the Spring 2024 magazine. If anyone has not received a copy please let myself or Alan Richey know and we'll try to sort it out for you. We now have just over 2 weeks before the AGM is held at the National Kit Car Show at Malvern (Sat 1st June) and hopefully we'll see lots of you there. If you wish to have anything discussed, or would like to volunteer as Events Secretary, please follow the instructions in the magazine. Steve

I like Blyton Park - we've done a few track days there and we would definitely be interested in coming out to play. To any members who don't know the track it is a good, fun track which is relatively safe. There is plenty of run off around most of it so should you exceed your talent level you can slide off and look sheepish without hitting anything solid. I know, I might have slid off on the odd occasion

Increasing the master cylinder diameter to 1" will need approximately twice the pedal pressure for the same pressure onto the brakes. Can you fit something like this from CBS ? https://www.carbuilder.com/uk/075-brake-and-clutch-master-cylinder-with-reservoir

Moving forward (slowly) into the "paperless" age, we have just sent out PDF copies of the magazine to all members who were happy to receive it in that format. This is the first time we have tried it so we expect a few ‘glitches’. I could try telling you that these are deliberate features of the system designed to ensure security, equality and privacy but you wouldn't believe me If you haven’t received a copy (please check any ‘spam’ folders first) then notify Alan Richey (username alanrichey) and he will send you a copy. Thanks, Steve

The club’s AGM is planned to take place on Saturday 1st June 2024 at the National Kit Car Show, Three Counties Showground, Malvern at 3pm. We are currently waiting for confirmation of the location of the club stand & the room booking so please keep an eye on the forums for any updates. The current Committee are having to state their intentions for re-standing or standing down at this year’s AGM as follows: Standing for re-election Kerry Allen – Club secretary Tony Godden - Treasurer Alan Richey – Membership secretary Steve Foster – Chairman Willing to stand aside Steve Foster - Magazine Editor Those listed as standing for re-election wish to remain on the Committee and will do so unless someone stands against them and receives a majority vote at the AGM. Those listed as willing to stand aside have expressed they are happy to continue with their role on the Committee but may also be willing to stand aside if a formal nomination for a suitable candidate is received prior to the AGM. As such, nominations for these positions are encouraged, but not required for the club to continue to operate. There is also a currently vacant position on the committee for the role of Events Secretary, and a vacant position for the role of Area Secretary for Scotland. Previous attempts to fill roles at the AGM itself haven’t always been successful so it’s important that we advise everyone of the situation in advance, rather than trying to press gang someone on the day. I would like to remind everyone that without an events secretary we are currently struggling to arrange or support events and may be unable to do so in the future. If you are interested in either of the positions and wish to discuss what is involved please contact myself. Finally, below you will find the instructions for submitting nominations, constitution changes and points for discussion at this year’s AGM. Commitee Nominations If you would like to apply for committee positions, you can do so by emailing secretary@rhocar.org Please use the subject line - "RHOCaR - *Your first name and surname* Nomination" Then enter the text below in the body of the email, with the relevant information completed: I (Print name), Membership Number Offer myself for election to the Committee of RHOCaR, the UK Kit Car Club for the following role(s). It would also be nice to see members attending the AGM if they can. Come and join in the AGM with us, have your say and tell us what you think. See you there, Steve

If you have the original Robin Hood wishbones the geometry wasn't exactly perfect to say the least. There was no adjustment for caster angle so, depending on how it all went together, it may not self centre very well at all. Check your toe-in which is adjustable - a small amount of toe-in might help and also make sure nothing is tight or binding on the steering. There are ways to significantly improve the front suspension, including an upgrade kit from Kit Spares, but none are a "quick fix". Steve
-
Hi Darrell, I'll be there, all being well. Probably only be able to make it for one day myself - Saturday is favourite at the moment. I'm guessing you'll be coming past me (from a global point of view) so I might tag along with you if we're going on the same day. Steve
-
Anything is possible but I don't know to an easy fix for this. The position of the original arches was (to some extent) down to the builder and they are probably only held on with pop rivets which should be fairly easily to remove. You can then fit alternative arches in GRP or even carbon fibre depending on how much you want to spend - I've see Locost style advertised for less than £100, Caterham carbon fibre ones will cost you a bit more! However, whichever you go for you will have to do a bit of "fettling" to make them fit. The chances are that your side panels will not be deep enough when you lower the arches so some sort of in-fill will be required, unless you replace the side panels as well. There may well be someone on here who's actually replaced theirs but I think most folks have kept the "standard" ones fitted. Steve

I'm repeating myself but again ......................... Welcome to you all, I'm sure you'll find something useful within the club. Ask those questions and we'll help if we can. There will be plenty of shows or meets coming up very soon so get those cars on the road and we'll see you there. Steve

Hi Al, I'm very tempted but I haven't got the car back together yet and I'd need to be sure it's reliable before running it that distance. Assuming everything goes OK I'd like to go but I can't say for definite yet.
-
I took my tin top in for it's first MOT a couple of days before the end of August and the expiry date shows as 31st August so I would think you should be OK taking it early.
-
Just bought myself a ticket - I'm hoping I've got the car sorted by then, otherwise it's a very long walk

I had Gaz units on my 2B, supplied by GBS but still available from Kit Spares. Having just looked on their website they list a set of Gaz shocks for the Sub K - might be worth a chat to them to see what advice they can give you on swapping over, what brackets to fit where etc. Link to Sub K coil-overs - https://kitspares.co.uk/collections/suspension/products/sub-k-shock-absorber-set
-
The brackets are usually an option when you buy the coil-overs, otherwise there are plenty of places selling them (search on eBay) but make sure you get the right size to match the coil-overs.
-
Those are the brackets that go into the bottom ends of the roll bar on the 2B but I don't know if there are any suitable chassis tubes on the Sub K to fit them in. The bottom end of the coil overs would fit onto the sierra arms with brackets something like :-
-
Sorry, didn't read the title properly did I ! My brain ignored the Sub K bit. Rewinding then ............... you would need to make a top mount for the coil-overs and then the bottom ends could be fitted as per a 2B. Someone on here may well have more info. on doing this but I would have thought the chassis would be up to it with a suitable bracket.
-
Hi Thomas, are you sure it's a 2B ? I thought all the 2Bs had coil-overs as standard. They were attached, at the top, to the bottom ends of the roll bar with the other end bolted onto the rear swing arm in the middle of where the original Sierra spring fitted. Of course it all depends on the fellow who built it originally. The attached picture shows the "normal" set up. Hope this helps, Steve 2B_rear.pdf
