  1. Fit the strobe to each HT lead in turn. Youre not looking for timing but to see if you can spot which cylinder is missing. IThat will make it easier to isolate the fault. If all 4 cylinders show even firing, its a fuel problem.
  2. Please dont replace just one disk. Change both. You are risking uneven braking at the very least. Use Eurocarparts for Pagid or Brembo disks, IIRC about £65 a pair.
  3. Single dials are a common fitment. You can get mechanical speedos, but it may be difficult getting an accurate reading. Most of us have fitted electronic speedos that have sensors that work off magnets or bolt heads at the rear of the propshaft. They can easily be adjusted to get an accurate reading.
  4. Time to try a different one. Start with A-Plan, they will do a discount for club members if you choose to join. They are very helpful, knowledgeable, and good value. I pay £130 which includes breakdown insurance, with 30 days European cover. Ring the Thatcham number & speak to (IIRC) Claire who deals with RH insurance. http://www.rhocar.org/index.php?showtopic=47084&hl=%2Bcherished+%2Bcar+%2Binsurance
  5. 34 degrees should be at about 3500 rpm
  6. Use a hairdryer to warm it up first then stick the centre first and stretch it sideways as you stick it down, have your best mate keep the hairdryer on it as you stick it down.
  7. The SBD sump even has the dipstick hole drilled on the wrong side!!!!!
  8. Hold on.....are you saying you have found 2 broken dipsticks? That suggests that the end of the dipstick is being diverted towards the crank, then getting broken off. Is there a baffle in the sump? Some Vauxhall redtops have trouble where the dipstick doesnt line up with the hole in the horizontal baffle plate. It then could end up anywhere, giving a false oil level reading and getting chopped off. I can think of 2 options. 1. to fit a removable stopper to the dip stick tube & only use the dipstick when you want to check the oil. 2. drop the sump & see exactly what is going on. HTH Bob
  9. I also went to Crystal Palace a fair bit... No HSE involvement back then......LOL
  10. "When I were a lad"......I regularly cycled to Brands to watch anything going on. The most thrilling races I watched were between Mike Hailwood and Giacamo Agostini. They were riding almost un rideable bikes, too much power for the frames, which twisted every which way. Those guys had steel balls....... I'm probably biased because I could then stand right at the side of the track & be deafened. I'd love to see Rossi race in person, he looks scary just on the TV.
  11. He was great, but I'd rank John Surtees alongside him, if only for his championships in F1 & GP bikes.
  12. Thats exactly right Ryan/zed, I have a Sierra PAS rack but it fits the one off wishbones I have. Just fill with PAS (more for lubrication really) & connect the in & out pipes. Most use an Escort rack with extenders.
  13. You need a VIN number which DVLA can supply. If the car is finished you need to get it through the IVA test, again apply via the DVLA (IIRC) If its not finished, there is nothing you need to do. Keep the V5 from the donor if possible, so you get an age related plate, otherwise just settle for a Q plate. This may help... https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-registration/kitbuilt-vehicles or maybe not!! Sorry wrong section... https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-registration/kitconverted-vehicles
  14. bit late.......happy birthday for yesterday!
  15. Also the crank trigger gap can be crucial, but that's less likely here as it would be a random misfire. But check it anyway!
  16. Maca I have some standard hubs if you want them. I'll post some pics, they need a good clean up but were working (turning) OK when I put them down the shed many many years ago. I'll dig them out tomorrow take some pics & decide a price once I have had a look at them. Cheers, Bob (the other one)
  17. The seller is "jimmwtwobikes"....
  18. http://locost7.info/gearcalc.php http://www.bghgeartech.co.uk/ BGH is worth a call they can supply parts to uprate your own box
  19. There is one big downside. 1st gear becomes even more useless, unless you have a gearbox with an uprated 1st gear.
  20. Agree with Mick....I used a 3 part renovo hood cleaning kit for my MX5, first cleaner, then re-colour, then re-proof.
  21. We have to leave on Saturday now, no fixed time to leave, so all flexible. I'll try & persuade her indoors....
  22. You may need additional supports since it wont be so rigid, but that should be easily done.
  23. They look pretty sturdy.... http://www.mksportscars.com/blog/how-to-fit-sierra-front-cycle-wing-stays.html It looks like you could twist the upper flat mounting bar to move the whole assembly in or out.
  24. This any help? https://www.1010tires.com/Tools/Wheel-Offset-Calculator# I like the MK brackets as they are triangulated from the dummy strut pinch bolt down to the bottom ball joint.
