  1. I have 2 bike cans, they were cheaper than a new GBS silencer (although give it time and I may change my mind lol) It is yes. The exhaust note on the MX6 was nice but was very quiet still. I love it because deep down I'm a hooligan lol I think I cut the first bit off, girlfriend thought I was already coming back but in fact I'd just put my foot down (only halfway - I'm not brave enough yet) 100 metres behind those houses lol, I think I may have upset the neighbourhood so only did the one lap lol. Just got to sort why cylinder 1 isn't firing now (however think that was a massive airleak with the throttle body not sitting truly flat) and also find out if my fuel filter is blocked or my low pressure pump is on the way out and unable to keep up with the swirl pot usage. Oh and sort the tracking out. Only a teething problems left lol. It was enough to give me the thrill again and up the motivation 10-fold
  2. Oh the smoke was from grubby oily hands handling the manifolds and whatever had built up in the cylinders from sitting/having the timing so far out. That plus it is very rich still lol
  3. Ok ok pipe down. You're like a stuck record lol
  4. So as many of you saw or heard, I made my way to Stoneleigh in the Zero with mt newly fitted Mazda KL 2.5L V6. Unfortunately, as common with the project, I hit many issues....basically resulted in a tow into Stoneleigh and the AA home. Conclusion, firing order and potential compression issues. I spent the weekend on 3 cylinders and found 2 to have suspected piston ring issues and the 3rd potentially a valvetrain issue. However the main killer was the firing order. Anyway, during the remaining time off work and odd weekend, the engine was dropped - thanks to Gaz and Stu, my spare (and probably better engine) fitted. The firing order was thought through and figured out by Jez (my electrical Guardian Angel) and this weekend I gave it a go.....but this project wouldn't be without its problems! An engine that ran, sat for 2-3 years and basically had nothing but a new flywheel/clutch and throttle bodies put on, the timing was horrendously out! Once i finished roasting Marshmallows on the backfire through my throttle bodies and sorted the timing (something I've never done - always learning!) this happened.... And then to prove I made it home... All in all it runs! Just a fuel flow issue to sort out (blaming blocked filter) and some tuning to be done and I'm finally ready for some summer blasting! Big thanks to all that have helped with this project so far!
  5. So I'm hoping to fire up my spare engine tomorrow and its not run for a fair few years (at least 3 in my possession plus whatever before me). I was wondering if I should take any extra precautions when looking to start it up for the first time? It turns freely and has cranked (to check starter engagement) but wondering if anything else to help initially like oil into the bores or whatever? Cheers
  6. It will all be new to me! I was either passed out or...well...broken down lol
  7. Added expletives. This is why I hate electrics You know where I am too. However.... Its the kit car Gods telling you to get cracking on your engine swap early
  8. To be perfectly honest, I've no idea on the firing order. The V6 firing order is easy, its 123456. The issue is linking that up with the edis firing order and actual coil firing order. The order Jez suggested worked and seemed a lot happier running (but not perfect) and on more cylinders, although a possible valvetrain issue plus varied compression might still be causing issues, means the engine is coming out and my spare going in with more consistent compression across all cylinders. Just gotta get over it being sat for 2 years lol
  9. I'll be there! I'll book the AA for the journey home again!
  10. Its 2 cylinders on 1 bank and 1 cylinder on the other Paul. All the connections have been tried and tested and no problems moved. All sparking and all fueling. This was all confirmed at Stoneleigh. I'm thinking test the other engine, if compression is good then swap that in (like for like is easy and done in an afternoon... with help pretty please? Lol) and then strip the engine slowly and figure out the problem. If the other engine doesn't work then I've got bigger issues to find. At least the better engine is in then lol. The only thing found with the ECU is the latest firmware. Easy fix but everything else is apparently looking ok...
  11. Yeah sorry, just to fill in some gaps. Its running a Ford Edis6 set up with a coil pack. At Stoneleigh we put new plugs in, swapped HT leads around for firing order, checking HT leads ok, coil pack was ok and spark plugs sparking. When out the block, plugs sparked and HT leads arced when pulled during running. Injectors were pulled and fired fuel, swapped and even wiring swapped but the problem remained. So from Stoneleigh we confirmed the plugs, injectors, HT leads, firing order and associated wiring were correct and working. The coil pack was brand new from trigger wheels. I have a spare but with 3 cylinders down (left bank cylinder 1-3-5 right bank 2-4-6 with 1 & 2 at the front) which were 1 (125psi) 2 (140psi) and 3 (120psi), it didn't seem right the coil pack was down as the plugs were also sparking still. Overall, no matter what we tried, we could not move the problem and each component seemed to be working when tested. I know you guys said it seemed to be running on 6 cylinders and with the change down to a proper idle, its hard to say but surely would be noticeable loosing half your cylinders? I have watched some videos back and there doesn't seem to be a major difference in it running.
  12. Luckily the other engine is still in the other MX6 with the bonnet on so that will be ok. I'll drain the oil and chuck fresh in, its not like I've got loads from having sorted the oil leak lol. Thanks for the tip about oil in the bores. I'll rerun the test to check as heads would definitely be an easier and quicker swap than an entire engine. Dan, I'll see what the oil down the bores gives me today and go from there. Maybe the issue is with valves hence the wonderful chirp I sometimes get haha
  13. Hi All, I'm looking to compression test my spare engine that has been sat for nearly 18 months and in the last 3 years probably moved less than a mile. Any advice for checking the compression on an engine thats been sat so long? Unfortunately I can't get the engine warm but can get it to crank over at least to ensure consistency between cylinders and comparison to my current 3 good cylinders? For those who are interested, the V6 in the kit currently had compression of 170, 165 and 140 on the running cylinders and 140, 125 and 120 on the ones not running. Apparently a good figure on a warm test is 190-205 psi. Cheers,

It was, thank you well, more of a Mazda V3 lol

Hoping it'll be sorted by Cov Motofest in a month! Best go compression test the engine and see whats going on there....might be swapping the spare engine in this weekend!

Just like to add a massive thanks again to all those who helped, lent tools, scratched heads and generally took the p!$$ with my car at the weekend! Despite running on 3 cylinders, an alternator not charging and wheels literally falling off, I had a great time! Just goes to add to what a fantastic club this is with many people willing to chip in and help. Last year it didn't make it, this year...well, it kinda got there. Next year, third time lucky?
  17. I'd be interested in the steering wheel Rich if I could have a look. Not sire what my current wheel size is lol. I'll most likely be the lad trying to figure out why my V6 is only a 3 clyinder lol. Orange Mazda Zero, big Wing
  18. I was just about to ask if anyone had done anything for this. I was chatting to a couple of the guys on the Motofest Committee couple days ago about booking a stand. Glad its been sorted, I should be there all being well
  19. I'm just looking at that, its saying $59.95 (£47) for mine which does the VE Analise - That apparently can do all the tuning as you drive and update as you go or give you a recommended table to approve after. As I'm off work all week I am tempted to give it a go, problem is I need to go to the MOT garage which is 1.3 miles away so not much time to tune it...time to drop the number plates, put a crash helmet on and go down the M6 at 3am haha Edit to add: I'm not sure if the VE analise is in the Tunerstudio MS or MS Ultra (which is $99). There is an upgrade option from MS to Ultra which just makes up the difference so could be 60 dollars or 100 dollars (£47 or £78)
  20. Hi All, I'm looking for some rolling road/mapping recommendations for places that can map and tune micro/megasquirt. Ideally closer to the midlands the better - I know of Bailey Motorsport and Northampton Motorsport - yet with Stoneleigh a week away, I'm prepared to travel a bit further if availability is limited. Also, if anyone has or experience of Tunerstudio's Autotune feature, I would like to hear from you too Cheers
  21. No longer on the medication that caused so much trouble last year! Aiming to avoid the infamous 'Most Fluids Lost' award this year, and even better, be in the correct car!! I best get a place to sleep booked! I stayed at the Fairway Country Hotel last year, definitely can recommend there http://www.fairwaycountryhotel.co.uk/

Are you suggesting IVA as an electric vehicle then drop in a dirty big V8 afterwards?
  23. Thats an absolute bargain! Would definitely be perfect for you! Would transform the car completely and really let you unleash the full potential. Do it do it do it!!!

My 1.6 Mazda Zero weighed in at around 550kg wet in a pretty basic IVA trim. With what that involved, I'm pretty sure you would struggle a lot to cut 100kg out of that...
