  1. Nobody on here ATM --- must all be at STONELEIGH --- will soon be on our way too.
  2. Like self cancelling indicators -- its nice to have -- & saves red faces.
  3. With our 12 volt electrics the shorter the wiring & the fewer the switch contacts between battery & load the better plus with a relay larger gauge conductors can be used --all the above aids getting the volts & amps to where they're required. Fuses are also very good --- helps prevent "Lucas Smoke"
  4. I did a circuit diagram some while ago --- not sure where it is on here. Job can be done with a relay & push to make switch --- any old relay will do which will reduce the cost considerably.
  5. Can understand your reluctance ---- not exactly "plug & play"
  6. Bite the bullet & fix this safety critical lamp. Our cars are difficult enough to see as is.
  7. Put it in 3rd & slip the clutch, once on the move you should be able to select some/all of the others.
  8. Second that Neil, a stroll up though the English country-side, may take half an hour longer but so much more enjoyable.
  9. What day are you going up from darkest Devon ?

    Stoneleigh

Hi all, are there any kit owners from around our area who would like to meet up & travel together to Stoneleigh? We intend going up on Sunday & can fit in with the wishes of others --- suggest time & place if interested.

    Pre IVA MOT

If you can borrow a trailer --- the MOT is a very good idea & if the car is trailed to the IVA test that equals brownie points with the tester if its pouring rain on the way there. Can't think any mechanic/tester likes working under a dirty, wet car. Its highly unlikely given the thought & care you are putting in to your build --- BUT --- what if something drastic fails on the car at IVA --- could make getting home very awkward if driven there.

    Strange problem

Possible mechanical fault in the starter solenoid, crap ( technical term ) is preventing the return spring from doing its job.
  16. When we fitted the Ford Ka m/cylinder it had a different mounting angle ( as opposed to the Sierra ) so it was necessary to make an angled mounting plate to bring the reservoir nearer to level.
  17. We fitted a tow bar to Florin, our 2b+ & fortunately had no issues with any legal agencies; as did a load of other 7 type kit owners. We even towed our trailer tent down to Le Mans again with no issues. Probably comes down to if your driving like a loon & DVLA/police have had a bad day then you'll get pulled. We had a lot of good times away, with our kit & t/tent , if you can afford the B&B/hotel you still miss the alcohol lubricated evenings around the fire at meets like Stoneleigh -- Hoodstock -- Donnington -- Castle Combe -- Prescott. Those days are past as our towing is now with a 4 wheel drive & boat.
  18. All standard Sierra on Florin -- vented discs on front & drums rear --- with the Ford Ka 19 mm master cylinder --- makes the pedal light enough for my wife to drive.
  19. We are near Winterslow & home most days -- e-mail on sylvia.fry2@btinternet.com if you wish to visit, regards Bob.
  20. Hi, I have a starter motor in stock, believe its for a Pinto. It had a solenoid contact problem which I have fixed. Its a Bosch unit 752 2 Made in Germany 0 001 208 520 ( Bosch product number?) 12V 86 GB 11000 BA are all the details on the body. Which Cranborne are you ? Dorset ? If so welcome to collect & try or bring old unit & compare.
  21. Advancing years can have that effect.
  22. Just a thought Nigel, is compression ignition of the easy start possible or does that always need the higher compression of a diesel?
  23. In the olden days --- there was a 25 inch screwdriver available --- 'cause it was the only way to get at the bottom hose jubilee clip on Minis.
  24. As said above ensure they are well greased at re-assembly --- ( or add nipples !!! )
  25. Fitted grease nipples to Florin's wish bones when building --- greased once a year before MOT --- theory being if packed with grease 'til it squeezes out then water can't get in to form rust & turn a bearing surface into a cheese-grater. Why are you replacing your bushes? An added bonus -- if the bushes ever need to come out -- once off the car hydraulic pressure will drive them out easily.
