  1. I don't think rear drums are lacking in stopping power for the road, they just don't look great. I swapped to rear discs when I upgraded from a 7" diff to a 7.5" led and the rear beam would only take discs.
  2. Mondeo Mk3 calipers and Focus ST discs. This is the article I wrote for the magazine, depending on wheel offsets you migth need different discs (Cosworth 283mm) which is what I've subsequently done when I changed my wheels. 744048525_BrakeUpgradeAutumn2017.pdf
  3. You need to familiarise yourself with the IVA manual here which covers the test you need to pass before you can register it which is mostly a paperwork exercise. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/iva-manual-for-vehicle-category-m1 It's likely to be a challenge and expensive, just the test is around £500. Not familiar with the car but presume it's got a bike engine so you'll be needing a reverse gearbox or another means of making it go backwards under its own power. Common IVA fail points would be sharp edges, noise and exhaust emissions thought the latter is maybe less of an issue if you go for a Q plate.
  4. Sunday 30th is the Bank Holiday weekend, think we've got camping booked for Stu's Wales trip that we carried over from last year.

  6. Looks like it's ok. I'd just have a pressure cap on the rad and run the rad overflow down in to a catch bottle ( metal water drink bottle from poundshop) making sure the pipe goes to the bottom of the bottle and is in a couple of inches of coolant. Bottle shouldn't be sealed, just vented to atmosphere.
  7. Is the rad cap the highest point that will contain water, including the cylinder head? If it isn't, you'll need a header tank or you won't get all the airlocks out.

  9. Scroll to the bottom of the page and you can set currency and shipping location.
  10. We now have a new supplier for club branded merchandise. Redbubble provides a print on demand service that offers high quality clothing, phone cases, mugs, stickers and more. This means customers can place orders for items, with a choice of logo and have then directly delivered to their door. Initially we have created 6 different logo designs like the one at the top of this page with the car in various different colours. This can be put on a variety of clothing and non-clothing items. Our store can be found here: https://www.redbubble.com/people/rhocar/shop?asc=u Thanks to our website admin Stu (theduck) for getting this set up. More products and additional logo designs can be added so if anyone has any suggestions, we'd be happy to hear them.
  11. Why don't you have the choke connected and use that for cold starts. Giving it a load of throttle might be flooding it.
  12. That sounds like the ignition timing is out. Is the distributor cap on correctly? Has the distributor moved because the clamp bolt is loose? If the distributor is loose, you'll need to rotate it a few degrees each way while trying to start it until the engine fires. Once you can get it running, you need to set the timing with a light.
  13. Apparently I could now go out in the kit and meet another kit owner outside - thought it must be 1st April. Anyway I did get out in the kit last night and today drove it to work and pulled it all apart. Looks like I picked the wrong time to do my winter mods. At least we're finally getting the chance to be out and about again. March saw the following new members joining - a warm welcome to everyone. 14. I'm just grateful you didn't have a kilt on when you knelt down to take that picture.
  15. My 15 year old Subaru is £585 a year, £25 a month sounds quite good value.
  16. You've done a nice job there, looks really good.
  17. 1.8 Pinto isn't the most desirable engine. I think if I was in your position I'd consider a couple of other options. Option 1, keep the type 9 box and use a 2 litre zetec. Option 2, sell the type 9 (which fetch decent money) and fit an Mazda engine and box. Both these options would mean a Q plate after IVA but that makes the emissions test a bit easier and means you don't need to worry about getting the V5 and ensuring the engine numbers match.
  18. As above, need to cover 205 tyres so 230mm wide. Not to bothered about colour, what have you got>
  19. I wouldn't say that a 2B is any harder than a Zero to get through IVA, the Zero is probably easier to build but if you've got to spend £3k+ to get the kit then it certainly isn't going to be the cheaper option and it's debatable whether the final value would justify the extra cost. Your main issue will be getting the donor V5 if you're set on not going down the Q plate route and you probably need to sort this out first. In either case, don't underestimate the amount of time it takes to build a car. Starting from scratch, you would build a Zero quicker but if you've not in a hurry, the 2B is a good option with plenty of scope for future modification.
  20. February might be a short month but there's been plenty going on membership wise. We still have many members renewing which is good to see. Hopefully now we have the roadmap out of the current restrictions, we will start to see more chances to get out and about and hopefully meet up. Welcome along to the following new members who joined in February. Marc S marc spicer Leicester Malcolm P megadodo Cambridge Jacob R YellowRobinRacer Worcester Martin B BasfordM Birmingham Kevin A Grizzly classics Shrewsbury Dave G MrG Chesterfield Due to workload, I'm on the forum far less than ever but I have noticed plenty of posts from new members getting stuck in asking questions. Thanks to everyone who's taking time to start threads and to reply, it shows what a useful resource the forum is and also what a friendly club we are.
  21. The ends of the panel outboards of the notches are rolled back on themselves 180 degrees. The panel is then pushed up again the chassis side tube so the tube goes in the notched bit and the rolled back ends are inside the chassis tube. Across the bottom of the panel, the 3 tabs either side of and in between the 2 notches, are folded 90 degrees forwards. This stiffens the panel and the notches go around the vertical chassis tubes that form the spare wheel hoop. The whole panel will then sit lower on the car.
  22. This is a friend of a friend's car so NTDWM but the details are as follows. 1988 Mercedes 190E 2.6l manual. 128k miles. 23. Can you remove the prop without taking out the diff because you can't on a 2B. If you can't, you'll need to remove the engine and then pull the box out forwards.
