  1. Do you intend to fit the bonnet the "Robin Hood " way --- with the 2 bolts on either side of the cockpit? Might be a lot easier to make the bonnet a lift off item --- then the dash panel can be made to take up all the "slack" which seems to be present. I made a right pigs ear of my first bonnet & then went for fixed scuttle & centre hinge of two halves down the centre line of the car.
  2. Have a word with a local builder for some off-cuts of scaffold plank, nail a batten across to engage with the ramps low down.

    Wheel Removal

In my dealings with security spline bolts/set screw on power tools ( many years ago now ) I found that the central pip was quite brittle & generally snapped off with just a tap from a parallel punch & hammer combo. Then apply the correct size of splined bit/driver.
  4. Navigate??? London to Brighton is due South -- just head for the sun at mid-day.

    Cooling System

There will still be air to be liberated from the water -- is it possible to install a bleed nipple close to the pump? Florin has 2 ordinary central heating bleeds on 15 mm tees in the feed & return pipes for the heater, which is the highest point on her CVH system.
  6. I thought the bushes had a spigot face -- a larger shoulder which didn't press into the 'bone ?? Don't want to remove any of this as it prevents sideways movement. Maybe incorrect memory on this bush shape, but steel tube must be 0.5 mm or there-abouts longer than the outside measurement of the bushes when installed & pressed fully home in the 'bone,
  7. Also, if you can; use a length of silver steel ( or similar straight rod ) to check that the bushes on each 'bone are in alignment. slightly out & the wishbone bushes are fighting each other when pivoting. Put plenty of grease in the gap between the bushes or fit grease nipples to ensure water can't get in & rust the tubes.
  8. Have always just used a soft "door" on Florin. 4 fixed points -- screen base - roll-bar base & 2 below level of side panel top. Strong "knicker elastic" inside a sheet of light weight tent material for the "door" on both passenger & drivers side. We also have a surrey top so only the side "window" part is still open. These two fold up & live in the glove box when not needed, but usually stay on the car most times. Has been O.K on thousands of miles in some very poor weather, generally get a little wet if a strong cross wind drives the rain in. We keep warm with the foot well heater & a blanket in frosty conditions ( plus scarf/gloves/Biggles flying helmet/leather coat)
  9. Bent Florin's rear end around my MIG gas bottle as it was nearest undersize "tube" I had. If bent around your knee ( or any other part of your anatomy ) it will create a threepenny bit shape of several small bends. Suggest the centre of the chassis is found with a straight edge marking where the tube finishes touching it & dividing in two, transfer this to the panel centre & the finish of straight marks will give the start of bend, which will need to be over-bent to allow for spring back of the metal. Check earlier recent post which also dealt with this panel.
  10. Good idea Bob, my worms can't be supported by pics, took far too few during build & it was a decade ago.
  11. Bob above is not wrong, but we have Florin's side panels with a top/bottom curve -- achieved with lots of sash clamps & additional shaped metal/rubber support behind. As said Florin is a one off as I didn't like the idea of flat slab like sides so drank tea & thought lots before fixing them with a crescent.
  12. Florin has two 50 x 25 m/s channels welded between the round chassis tube ( under your knees & across car ) & the rear join between floorpan & seat back panel, which also has a re-enforcing metal section across the car.
  13. May not be much help but here goes ---- on our 2B we cut the back panel ( one behind seats ) in half & fitted each side correctly ?? then riveted the overlap together. The side panels ( 8 feet long ones ) are too big for the over-all space between top & bottom chassis rails --- we bowed the panel length wise to make the top & bottom return touch the chassis. Made a bowed bracket to suit, which also carries the front fixed to flexi brake line. The rear panel for the very back of body work was bent by wrapping it around my MIG gas bottle as that was the best radius item I could find at the time, the top lip needs very careful thought ( at least a few teas/coffees ) as it needs to be shrunk to fit the chassis rails OR can be left standing & covered with the fibreglass "boot lid" supplied. Above maybe useless --- Florin is probably a one off 2B
  14. Without relays, Ian; & I believe your car has done a considerable mileage.
  15. Dip switch on the floor ? Something for your left foot to do on long runs!!
  16. Original gearbox ? Does it jump out of third unless held ?
  17. You play football?? Do you play by the rules? You run a sportscar, then play by the rules if for public road use or else stick to running up & down your drive/private estate. SVA/IVA got rid of a lot of dangerous cars.
  18. Check by careful measurement -- or ask your local IVA Test Centre -- re-tests are/were £90 a time.
  19. Can always go another route & change to non servo by fitting a smaller bore master cylinder -- we have standard Sierra brakes all round operated by a Ford Ka master cylinder -- works great even my wife has no trouble stopping our toy.
  20. It is probably the same with all car improvements -- until we are all using the same technology ( LED lights, ABS brakes, ) those with a "lessor" standard will be at a disadvantage. We must wait & see what "issues" self driving cars bring or all electric vehicles dead on the side of the road waiting for the AA man with a can of "juice".
  21. Illegal number plates are not safety critical, where-as being blinded by on coming dazzling headlights is. Just IMO Richy

    Air horns

The musical air horns on my Mini back in the '70s was great at moving pedestrians out/of the road, or drop into 2nd & spin the wheels a little. Small tale from those days --- my girlfriend ( now wife ) would also use the mini, solo; & came back one day very concerned about the squealing noise when cornering. Didn't think too much of it at the time, then we were together in the car doing a rapid circuit of a dual carriage-way, roundabout at the end. On travelling round the 'bout she said " there's that squealing noise again. Good old days -- car was built to " Car & Car Conversions " article for a 998cc A series lump, nothing special in to-days hot hatch market but back then we could keep up & probably out run most other cars.
