Donor

Hi guys Looking in to getting the zero kit. But was wondering if i could use the focus with the 1.8 zetec engine that is lying around for most of the donor parts rather then just the engine, I am aware that i would need a different gearbox, other then that any help would be most appreciated. 2B Zetec 2ltr Discs front, Drums rear. Just wondering whether I should use a servo for the brakes. I was not going to use one, having been used to an Elise S1, but I seem to be seeing a lot of installations recently with the servo retained, even the RH DVD shows one having been fitted. PS: still looking for the adjuster bits and pieces for the rear drums.

Hi I am helping a lad build a zero and when we came to fit his steering together I have found that he does not have the little plastic bush that fits behind the boss for the steering wheel Does anyone have one or can anyone give me the part nuber from MR ford thanks Andrew

I now have both 3.62:1 or 3.92:1 differential, however I am not sure which one to use with my Zetec engine (soon to be fitted to my Zero). I live in darkest Aberdeenshire and the roads are nice and twisty and hilly which leads me towards the punchy 3.92:1 differential, however there seems to be several people who seem to prefer the 3.62:1. Any thoughts?

Hi Guys, I've just started preparing my parts from my GBS Donor Pack and am currently sorting out the rear drums. Just wondered if you could suggest where I could get the parts to replace the rather rusty originals. For safety I am only looking at reusing the back plate. Do I need to get the parts from Ford, or are there any other sources you would recommend. Any part numbers, etc would be appreciated. Cheers, Dan

Does anyone know where can I get a breather for a 7" Diff. Raceline did advertise them but they have all gone and I can't find an alternative supplier. Thanks Phil

hey guys, i know this is the wrong forum to post this but im not a fully fledged member yet so i cant put it in the correct one but i managed to order the wrong brake stuff off ebay so ive now got two brand new rear wheel cylinders and a brand new set of shoes for both sides from a 1.6 sierra, if you want them 20 quid for the lot. haha cost me 40 quid to get em on ebay! drop me a line!

Hi Guys, Just sorting out my donor parts before I collect my kit mid-June. Have a couple of questions: 1. What is the minimum I should be doing with the engine/gearbox? I assume it's worth separating them and checking clutch and flywheel? 2. Are there any gaskets, etc that I should replace? 3. Should I drain the diff and change oil? Is it worth opening the diff to check for damage (it seems to be quite smooth)? 4. Stupid question time! Should the driveshafts just slide through the hole in the rear drum back plates, or is some force normally needed to remove them? My backplate will not pass the outer CV joint, so I'm wondering if there is something not quite right?…

Hi all, I am doing my prep prior to getting my Zero in a couple of weeks. I am mating a Zetec to a type 9 and Richard mentioned that I need to chop the starter part of the casting and fit a plate to get the whole lot sitting cack in the chassis better. Hi all, i'm (finally) getting close to realising the long standing ambition and buying my first kit. just 8 weeks now until i get my garage! I was looking at the Zero Kit website and it obviously still has everything based on Sierra running gear. I have a close friend who is in the motor trade keeping an eye out for me, however, this week he has had in two crash-damaged cars which could be suitable, and i wondered if either of them would be suitable for the Zero? I am building a Zero, and after asking a few questions on the forum about donors, I was contacted by someone who told me he had all the parts I needed from the donor, already removed from the sierra, with all the documentation (V5 on a SORN etc). He was going to build a 2B 9 years ago, but decided against it and the parts have sat in his garage since then. After viewing, I bought the "car" and took it away, happy with what I got (2.0l pinto, 55k miles + everything else I needed, all cleaned up & ready) , and managed to avoid the "sierra shell on the drive" problem. ok im trying to source the bits for my robin hood zero superspec. ive found a sierra in a scrappy locally and hes asking for 60 quid for the rear differential, drive shafts, rear hubs and the front hub carriers, does it matter what sierra they come out of? as some differenetials are different sizes or have bolt in drive shafts rather than push in ones, does it make much difference? aside from that after the prop steering column and pedal box is there anything else i will need?

hey guys. i am looking at buying a robin hood lightweight in the kit form. the kit is 'used', the owner has bought the kit, got halfway through the build and doesn't want to continue finishing it. so far everything has been done and all the parts are there except: engine and gearbox, wiring loom, seats, seat belts, guages, etc. i am not sure what type of engine to use. i have built kit cars before including a Lomax. but the engine i used is a motoguzzi motorbike engine, so the principal between the Robin Hood, and my other kit car is not quite the same. i guess what i am asking is what type of engine i could use. the previous owner was considering…

Ever had one of those days....! Been away from building my 2b for past 6 months as my kids and recent newborn has occupyed my time.. Easter break decided to start refurbing the brakes.. put wheels back on but nuts have gone missing.. Think the wife has been tidying around me again ! I know they are cheap to buy but only ones I can find are shiney zinc plated which just look wrong against black rims.. I don't want shiny.. want the orignal blackened steel ones.. Can find one set on Ebay but paypal only... Anyone know where I can get ones which aren't plated.. ? betters till anyone got one or two spare... ? Phil

hi all, i bought a part built kit car a couple of months ago and it needs some rear wheel bearings (none fitted). the previous owner said it had a granada back axle (it has the bolt on shafts), when looking for the wheel bearings they seem to either fit the granada OR sierra. i'm not sure whether to trust the previous owner on it being from a granada, as he didn't remove it, he just got told. could i take photo's of a part of the axle for you guys to help identify it? unless sierra and granada bearings are the same... Could someone please help i have seem to have come across a set of rear calipers that are vented and require a vented disc as are to wide for the standard solid does any body know where i might get hold of some as cant find anything under sierra is the scorpio the same fitting as the sierra many thanks neal

If the sierra i used as donor had a 185 65 r14 wheels and tyres. What size side wall do i need to use to get the same rolling distance/circumference for a 16" rim with a 205 wide tyre? Thanks in advance again Alex

I have been reading up about dvla registrations and they say that for a car to have assigned an age-related plate, then it needs to contain two major components from the original car. It states major components can be steering mechanisms, brakes, suspension etc. If you used the steering column and brakes surely this would class as two major components, thus allowing you to fit a 2.0l Zetec from the off without any issues? I will be looking to purchase and build a Zero kit soon and just wanted to get this clarified as I would idealy like to use a Zetec and as the exhaust manifold would be on the left hand side instead of the Pinto exhausts coming out of the rig…

Is anyone looking for a sierra donor, as I have located a 2 litre one, H reg, Ithink its a dohc ( the dizzy is sticking out the top front of this engine)

A friend of mine has just written off his K reg Sierra 1.8 Diesel Estate and has asked me if I want it for parts for my Zero. I would probably want it if it had a Type 9 Gearbox and would also take a lot of other bits and the V5 and use it to get an age related plate for registration. Before I say yes however, I need to make sure that it is a Type 9 box. He lives quite a way from me and I don't think I will be able to get down there beforehand. Can anyone help with what box is likely to be fitted to this car? Thanks Lucavigg

I am taking the sierra 1.8 engine out of my kitcar on saturday 7th March and quite fancy putting a Ford Mondeo 2.5L V6 enginer in place! I know the V6 is a lot heavier so the susspension would need altering but would there be any more (major complications linking this engine to the current gearbox (sierra)?? My car will be undergoing a whole new interior and is getting a full respray! Hopefully will look the dogs when done but struggling with choice of engine. A few people have adviced to just go for the 2.0L Zetec but I like the idea of the sound of a V6! I dont no if by choosing a V6 im making the project over complex! Any advice appreciated! Ian

hi all i have finally found a donor car! its a sierra 1990 1.6 classic ONE OWNER since new! 44k miles and garaged all its life and i managed to get it for £100! quite happy to say the least. a few questions where the hell do i start!! if i keep it on the age related plate would it be tax exempt after 25 years old? also i was set on the idea of using another engine zetec 1.8/2.0l ect but with this engine only covering 44k it seems a shame to throw it away but would i be dissapointed with it? can you tune them? is it worth it? ect what do you guys think any thoughts ideas ect would be great also the rear brakes are drums,do i need to cha…

hi people im new to this game so stay with me im planning on building a zero and have seen a sierra for sale its a 1.6 on a G plate just wondered if this would make a suitable donor car i will hopefully be using a zetec engine so thats not a issue but are the other components ie gearbox diff ect be suitable or are they different ratios ect,i have been looking and as you all know sierras are getting more and more challenging to find so if this would be suitable then ill take a closer look,thanks in advance

Looking at using the wheels from my donor on the Zero, so I will need wheel spacers. I know that the offset needs to be RT15. My questios are; Does anyone know what the offset of the sierra wheels will be? How do I find out the offset of a set of wheels? (I have another set of alloys from elsewhere) If I need to get from RT15 to RT35 say, I take it I need 20mm spacers. Thanks Bill
