Hi Folks I am new here, seems like a great forum and just what I need right now! As you may spot over the coming months - I am a bit of a novice (albeit an old-git novice) and I only hope my questions arent too dumb! Right - Here's where I am at now.... Just starting to get tools! Chosen a 2b as the car I want to build Havent ordered it yet Dont have a donor yet Was thinking about the 1.8CVH Engine - thanks to your posts I have changed my mind - a simple 1.6 will do for starters! Two questions .... 1. Where do most of you get your donors from ? Anyone use auctions ? Any tales to tell or tips on what to watch out for ? 2. I am planning to order…

i have a strange question that some of you maybe able to help with, if the worst comes to worse(it shouldnt,but who knows) if i use a robin hood as a donor for a kitcar build,the r/h being year related plate would the new kit that has no chassis number take the r/h reg number or would it be a Q reg as it is made from a kit to a kit i do hope that made sence

...but - Any reason why Estates can't be used as donors ?

hi all, finally got the engine finished + want to see if it's gunna work or just cough at me, the problem is i don't have the right rubber engine mounts, does anybody know where i can get hold of some so i can drop the engine in the kit + give it some juice. allready tried the local scrappy, but he didn't have any without an engine on top + without a hoist it would be pretty hard to get them out. any help apreciated, Lew

My friend has a 1.8 L Sapphire and said I can have it for my 2B/4 which I have ordered. It is a 1.8L CVH, what is that? and can this be used instead of the Pinto engine in the 2b/4 chassis?

Hi all, i am about a 1/4 the way through my exmo build + have been stuck for about a month now, i need some sierra hub carriers (1985) to go on the end of me shocks, been 2 the local scrappy, which was a waste of time, contacted ford + they quoted me £291 for the pair, but i can't afford that. so i was wondering if anybody new where i could get hold of some, any comments appreciated, Lew

I am looking at getting the Lightweight (Bolteon) kit when it becomes available and already have a 1.6 Pinto sapphire to start stripping which cost me nought !! The question is do i use the 1.6 Sierra or bin it and look for a 2.0 litre as i quite fancy vented discs , larger drums , more power etc ?? Anyone else used 1.6 running gear and dropped a 2.0 litre in it ? Figuring on such a light car this would probably be fine & me definately being a stranger to a fish supper too ! Any feedback / opinions are welcome, Cheers......................

I now have a very tidy donor sitting on the drive awaiting its demise. Its a very tidy, sweet as a nut 2800cc Xr4X4. It is almost a shame to break it. It will I'm sure, break the previous owners heart if he finds out what I intend to do with it. Bobsmate

I have just obtained 2 Sierra XR4x4s with the 2.8 v6 in them. Are they going to serve as good donor vehicles for a lightweight or 2b? i'm very keen to make use of the 4x4, like the dax quadra. anyone used the 2.8 v6 or 4x4 yet?

Im building an exmo bought in 96 by original owner, he never started to build the kit. Can anyone suggest the best spring s and shocker, going for coil overs, got the original front as supplied by robin hood. spring height and strength would be helpful Dave

Please Help Me I have discovered that I do not have McPherson struts to make up my front sliding pillar assembly. I have searched the local scrappy and none there either! Does anybody know where I can get some made up? Steve.

Been to look at 2 sierras today (a G and H reg) and both of them had twin cams in. What year did they stop using the pinto?? I've got another lined up to look at tomorrow but don't want another wasted journey. The one im supposed to look at tomorrow is E reg. Thats got to be a pinto surely Why can't i fit the twin cam anyway? are the mountings different or is it too wide or high???

does anyone know the standard diff and gearbox ratios of a G-reg 1.6 laser before I resort to dismantling and counting teeth. many thanks

Getting paranoid about SVA now. My donor was a 2litre 1984 base saloon, but I want to know which tryes were fitted on this model so I can check the tyre bible for comparison. My 2B has a 3.62 diff and 195/50 x 15 tyres on RH alloys. I,ve also got a set of 185/65 x 14 sierra wheels off a H reg 2 litre. Also can anyone clarify that the speedo can show a % over but not under a certain speed. regards Graham

THIS IS MY FIRST POST ON HERE HAVING COLLECTED MY KIT ON THE 28TH OF FEBRUARY, IT PROBABLY WON'T BE THE LAST!!!! MY DONOR IS A LATE SAPPHIRE GLX, CAN I USE THE ADJUSTABLE STEERING COLUMN OR DO HAVE TO SOURCE A FIXED ONE? CAN ANYBODY PICK OUT ANY OTHER COMPONENTS I MAY NOT BE ABLE TO USE, DUE TO MY DONOR BEING A LATE CAR?

Does anyone know if a clutch form a transit which is the same year as my doner with the same gearbox and engine (1600 pinto) be alright as a replacement clutch?

just ordered a project 2b to pick up at the end of march can any one tell me if a 2.0 glx sierra is ok to use for a donor.

Hi Is anyone building (built) the DOHC kit? In the video it states to keep the donor front crossmember. However I cannot see how this is used in the kit construction. Is the video wrong or is it me ? Does anyone have an idea of the wieght of the DOHC engine & gearbox ? Many thanks Dave :boohoo:

Going to look at a Y reg 2 litre GL tommorow. Genuine 95,000 miles but only a 4 speed box (not too worried about that though). I just need to know if this will be a Pinto engine? Cheers.

Hi Guys, This is my first post and I'm picking up a 2B Plus kit at the end of Feb. I need to get the donor car sorted and was wondering if a 2.0 litre Sierra estate can be used. Is the rear axle/diff the same as the hatchback version? Also, from peoples experience, whats the best cc engine to go for. I'm torn between a 1.8 and 2.0 but am not sure on the differences in performance between the two. Cheers guys.

Hi, There is a sierra xr4x4 in my local scrap yard, i am currently build a sub k with 1600 pinto, would it be possible/hard to convert my rear drums to discs from the above car? Mike

Hears one for all the people who say they cannot find a doner, it's a J reg Saffire taxed & tested on ebay number 2447063335 (don't know how to do the 'click here' bit) at the moment it's at the grand sum of £10.50. usual nothing to do with me bit.

Hi All I am getting my 2B on the 28th Feb next year so i am looking for a Sierra to start stripping down now, What year does the single ohc 2l engine i need start and finish and is any one year better than another. Cheers Jay
