Engine

Won't fire, won't even turn? Not running smooth? Cutting out? Ask here!

  1. Hello all, I have recently purchased a Tiger Cat E1 with a 2.0 Pinto engine, 205 block (November 1987) and the head is using carburettors. As the title says, I am trying to find identification marks near spark-plug 4 that would indicate if the head is an unleaded one. There is what looks like a vertical scratch on the block similar to the letter “I” but it does not look like factory marking. The previous owner bought the car themselves as is and they were not aware if the engine has been modified in any way by the original owner. Any ideas?

  2. Started by ThrobbinHood,

There is a loud tapping noise coming from the engine when it's running. Has anyone had this issue ? I'm new to the kit car game so any help would be greatly appreciated. I can provide some photos aswell. Thank you

So maiden voyage today after re wiring, new interior, my youngest son had his prom so I was designated taxi, all went fine until the 2nd run (had to pick up and drop of his girlfriend too) on way back home I heard a horrendous noise, sounded like I had ran over a massive chunk of metal, turns out my oil cap blew off so that's now dead, its a 2.0l pinto, it had a push on metal cap type thing that went over the oil cap itself, they've both gone, any ideas what might cause that to happen? Had a quick search for "pinto oil cap blew of" but seems I might be the only one 🤣🤣🤣

Ok so my 2.0l pinto has no expansion or header tank, so me being a cheap skate have got a solution (I think) my mum works for the ministry of defence and lives in a army barracks, at said army barracks there's a few cars they use for training search dogs, after speaking to the captain he said I could nick the coolant bottle from a ka, so I have done so. On the coolant tank there is 2 hoses 1 goes to the top of the bottle and one goes to the bottom, am I right in thinking the top thinner hose goes to the rad cap outlet (currently has a tee piece with a nipple coming out) so top hose to that and the bottom thicker hose to the hose coming from the water pump that goes round …

Still trying to find out exactly what has been done engine wise to my 2.0l pinto, digging through even more receipts I've found these 2, bores have had a 1mm rebore, fr33 cam and I've found a reciept for the new psitons that were fitted, I'm guessing these wouldn't be standard pistons with the bores having a 1mm rebore, maybe a stupid question now but does this make it a 2.1 pinto? Roughly what kind of power could I see from this setup?

Hi All, I am fairly new to my kit car and kits on the whole. I bought a s7 to fit me and it needed a lowered/highered sump. I got the sump and fitted it only to find 4 of these ali pieces in the pan. Anyone any idea what it could be? It’s a 2.0 zetec if that helps. thanks

Belive it or not, ive had the car since August last year and I haven't put fuel in yet (came with full tank and kept braking down last year) once it's back on the road (hopefully next week) I'll need to fill up, ive done a search but searching for e10 and e5 brings nothing up, alot of the stations round here no sell the e10, so is e10 OK running in a 2.0l pinto with twin webbers? Or am I better off searching around for e5?

  8. Hi guys, currently my radiator is mounted sideways (remember having the sideways mounted rad conversation last year) but is it best to have the electric fan blowing from engine side out through the rad towards the front of the car or mount the fan on front of the rad blowing air through the rad into engine bay? At the moment mine is fitted blowing out from engine bay through rad toward front of the car, but recently seen a few builds with the rad blowing from front to back and just wondered if there's any advantage to this?

My Pinto 2.0 engine has a sensor right underneath exhaust port 4 and there is no wire going to it. Does anyone know which sensor it is so I can correctly re-wire it? Also, is there a drawing of all the sensors and their locations around the block?

After a gap since buying my RH 2B Plus and am working on it to starting using it. I have been looking into some overheating issues which I may have resolved (just done many things including removed the incorrect gasket covering a third of the hole!) - time will tell! However, I have noticed an issue with the electric fan, which is wired via a thermostatic switch in the coolant system (which is earthed) and a manual switch on the dash - both continue to operate after the ignition is off, the fan had stopped coming on automatically(not the source of the overheating!). I bought a new thermostatic switch, but when I took the original (90 degrees) out and tested both, t…

  11. I have changed a pinto cam belt, but not for a while. I know I have the splined bit that fits the tensioner spring bolt somewhere, BUT where did I put it! ... So many spiders are now homeless in my attempts to locate that strip of 4 or 5 splined sockets/bits....... so I need to buy some more ..... but now I look on-line and am amazed by the number of different splined sockets/bits available, I don't mean different makers, I mean different standards. The one the block that I have looks like it has 12 points, then I see 3 different standards of 12 point splines (at least) depending on the angle between the teeth. I did find a set of bits handed down from my father, but when…

Hi All Sorry if this has been asked before but couldn't find anything directly related. I've had the head and block of my pinto skimmed and are putting the head back on, it has a KC FR33 camshaft and an adjustable pulley on the front. There doesn't seem to be any marks to line the pulley up with for TDC, does anyone know how to line this up with the adjustable pulley and shaft stated, really don't want to wreck the new pistons etc by getting it wrong. Many thanks Rory

  14. Hi all My S3a lights to get hot quickly and over heats. It has an electric fan that is operated by a switch on the dash. I'm thinking about replacing the rad as the car had been sat for a number of years before I got it sorted. The core has cool spots when the car is up to temp. So one question is what one should I get to there isn't a lot of space.. It has no header, expansion tank or overflow bottle. I'm looking at putting an overflow bottle in but reading a few threads on here I'm wondering if some of my issues could be air locks as the rad cap is lower than some or the water system.. it has a heater which I'm looking at taking out at some point and the Weber…

I have just swooped the mechanical pump for a facet electric pump. All wires in pump runs when ignition on but is not getting fuel to the carb ? Any ideas I thought this pump would be easily strong enough? I have took fuel hose off under bonnet before regulator and it is bone dry ?

Is swapping a 1.6 pinto for a 2lt just a straight swap? Or do other items such as clutch, flywheel, bell housing, starter, alternator inlet or exhaust manifold need changing or modifying in any way.

Its time I got my 2B back on the road. The problem I have is that its suddenly started to smoke under load. The engine has done circa 3000 miles since the head came off during the build 2010ish and all I did was replace the valve oil seals as when in the donor car it smoked on the overrun. The bores looked very good and the engine ran very well but on the last run when it started to smoke it felt "not quite right". I'm think its probably rings this time but have any pinto experts got an opinion on what it might be! Its a 2.0 EFi and if the donor history was accurate it only has 88000 miles on it. The plan is to do a leak down and compression check, pull the head, check th…

Hi all, First post on here. Aquired a 2019 Zero with 2.0 Zetec.. car hardly used since IVA. less than 1k. drove car home, 5hr journey, All good.Used car for a few runs before weather turned. One of my gripes was poor gauges. Couldn’t see or read oil, water or amp gauge so swapped for Little Devil gauges and added oil temp. Since this had engine misfire/popping and reluctant to pick up. Running K6 emerald ECU with wide and lambda. Have swapped obvious, plug leads etc but no better. Checked wiring but can’t see anything obvious. Did disconnect ECU wiring to tidy up. any help appreciated Jeremy
