  1. Where should I attach the vacuum line for the fuel Regulator? Advice seems to be I should retain this, but unsure if I should port to the plenum or the air filter side of the throttle body.

  2. Started by LewisH,

Hi all, Just finished a rolling road session yesterday at Northampton motorsport, very happy with their work, however, the torque curve wasn't great at lower revs and didn't pick up until roughly 4k rpm. The guy running the session suggested that the exhaust manifold was small in bore size and also primary pipes too short, which was the most likely cause of lack of low rev torque. Can anyone suggest a good pinto manifold option that will fit into an exmo? Modifying the chassis side panel isn't a problem if need be, but space is limited around the engine mount and steering column. Thanks, Lew

  3. Started by Longboarder,

My new exhaust arrived safely today. Sadly it doesn't fit my series 3 but it is sold for a 2B. It touches the top chassis rail and is about 2 inches short of bolting up to the head. Local exhaust shop should be able to do minor mods to fit it. I'm amazed that it should fit a 2B which I would have thought was wider than a series 3. Nigel

Hi fellow enthusiasts. I have recently purchased and embarked on a rebuild of an S7. The engine sump has been damaged around the sump plug - minor leak (very low ride height) and I need to replace it. Does anyone know if it is possible to remove the sump with the engine in-situ?. Any advice greatly appreciated. Many thanks Glenn

  5. Started by Pintogogo,

Hi, Just after a few thoughts on running a rebuilt pinto in, I have a fully rebuilt 205 block pinto, with crank regrind, new bottom ends n main bearings, new oil pump, rebored & honed with new pistons n rings, block decked, ported & polished head with new valves, springs, followers & a Kent FR32 cam fitted with new bearings plus all new gaskets, seals, core plugs, water pump etc etc and I am running it on valvoline VR1 oil. What sort of mileage should I be running before changing oil & filter? and pushing a bit harder say 5k rpm (I keep engine to below 3500 rpm at min) cheers

  6. Started by Hefferzzzz,

So, the Supercat decided to put me through the wringer recently, and I thought I’d share the saga for anyone who fancies a laugh at my expense (or needs reminding that kit car ownership is equal parts joy and punishment). It started small. Just a stumble at 4k. Nothing major, just enough to make me frown and mutter “probably carb needles.” Left it for a bit, but it got worse. Even had one “specialist” tell me to ditch the bike carbs and Megajolt and go back to Webers and a mechanical dizzy — because obviously when modern ignition throws a wobbly, the answer is 1970s technology. Right… Then came the backfires. And not polite little pops, oh no. Proper artillery f…

Does anyone know what pitch these are. The bolts that attach the starter to the engine. I know they're M10 and I think 30mm Ta Andi

  8. Hi, I bought a GARBI 7 30 months ago, the car in a Robin Hood Mk2 monocoque with in board front suspension with a 2 l Pinto engine fitted with 2 Weber 40IDF 70. The chassis was bought by a spanish company near Barcelona in 2005 which was assembling the car and registered it in Spain. The problem is the company failed few years after so all the registration datas were lost. I spent the first year to take away all the donor wiring as it was full of bad connections. I took away all the fiitings in the boot of the car , spaekers, pieces of wood etc abd installed an electric pump insteadof the mechanic one. I Tried to pass the ITV (equivalent to IVA) and failes …

  9. Hi all, I've purchased a food 'kit' van and will be refurbishing it over the next year or so. First stop is the engine . . . . it's a 2 litre pinto. I'm new to this but hope to put the engine together and get the help of a mechanic towards the end as it seems theres loads out there on pinto's . .. First question. The seller fitted a reconditioned engine with new weber carbs and inlet manifold. I have 3 hose unions on the inlet manifold. Can anyone advise me why they are there? where they should be going? can't make any sense of them. Struggling to upload an image due to the zie, but here is a link to which inlet is fitted. https://www.ebay.…

my 2L pinto is on 32/36 std carb which i don't think is doing the engine justice performance wise what would you think my best option is fitting bike carbs, if so which ones, or is there a better carb i can fit on my std inlet manifold, twin 45s are out of my price range unless i can find some cheap , not going to do track days would just like better acceleration

  11. Hi, little bit frustrated. I am nearing IVA and decided to try putting the car into gear and driving up and down my drive, bang, clutch cable snapped. Now my clutch fork feels very loose and I think the release bearing is no longer seated in the clutch fork, I could be wrong as I only had a very quick look before shutting garage door. Before I give up and take the engine out (!!!!!) my questions: 1. What generally causes this? Had I adjusted the cable too tight, if so what is the process to adjust the cable? 2. Can the clutch fork be re-attached from the little access panel on the side of the MT75 bell-housing? The fork feels like it is no longer …

Hi everyone, I'm sorry if this maybe a stupid question, but I'm quite new to kit cars and carbs. I'm actually doing some maintenance on my 2B and I ordered the service kit for the Weber 38 DGAS, everything seems to be ok, but they gave me a diaphragm to change on the power valve and I'm a bit stuck, I don't know how to replace it, we tried about everything but the thing seems to be completely stuck as a whole thing. I already found the entire replacement and it's on the way, but I'm just curious if there was a way or they simply gave me the wrong replacement part. Thank you

Hi everyone. Just joined the club and a little bit green behind the ears. I bought a Super Spec recently which had never been used. Still wrapped body panels. A spaghetti of wires in the dash area. And so on. My intention is to finish it off as well as I can. One little niggling thing is pestering my head is on the top of the engine the valley between the cams I think should have a rover plate fitted. My request is does anybody have one that I could buy. Or knowledge of where to get one. I want to get one machined to fit maybe with a logo of my choice. Thanks ever so much. Michael

  14. I've been offered an ST170 engine with throttle bodies and their loom. The seller doesn't have the ECU, he has no other loom pieces so no ECU connector, no ignition barrel, no keys and no Dash Cluster. So my question is as a bare minimum what do I need to have to get it to run ? Not looking to spend a fortune at this stage, the seller bought it as a runner but of course he'd say that 😉 Thanks, Karl.

  15. Started by Disco,

Good afternoon I have managed to at last get the car running . However the water rail is not working correctly and is filling the expansion tank and not returning to the radiator. So my question is does a diagram of how to connect a water rail to a zetec engine exist or is there a video I can watch to show me where I have gone wrong . Regards Chris D

  16. Started by Worcester19,

OK - I seem to have been working on the problem for weeks and can't solve it. I have a 2.0 Pinto with Electronic Ignition (Make Unknown) When I crank the engine I have a spark at the end of the HT Lead coming out of the Coil. I then connect it to the distributor but the spark disappears and I get no spark at any of the plugs. I have changed the Dizzy Cap, Rotor Arm, Plug Leads and still no change Haven't got a clue what to do next but I won't be beaten! Has anybody any ideas what could be causing this as I haven't come across this before. Many Thanks for any advice! Stephen

  18. Hello all, I have been reading through posts regarding the cooling system on Pinto engines and the best diagram I found was this: My pinto has a pressurised header tank, the radiator has no filler cap and there is no heater installed. Based on the above diagram, and my configuration this is how it is connected: The problem I am having is that the header tank is filled to the minimum line but overflowing when engine is warm and when the engine cools down all the coolant from the tank gets siphoned out to the point that the tank is almost empty! There are no visible leaks apart from when the tank overflows. Do you think that there…

  19. Hope Ive popped this in the right section. Ive got an S7 that previously had a 2.0 Pinto (was all up and running and road registered) - when I bought it there was no engine and box. It does have a prop and rear axle. Having given it a good looking over I think the loom is pretty butchered so although the mounts etc are there ready for a replacement pinto I am thinking shall I just bite the bullet and get a Mk2 MX5 1.8 that runs and do an engine/box/loom swap. My questions are - Am I mad and should I just patch up the loom and get another pinto (I have been offered one with a transit gearbox for £600) or Get an 1.8 MX 5 and rip it apart - will the engine fit, would…

  20. Hi All, I have a Cortina Pinto, late 79, which has gone south - Availability means I'm wondering if I can swap everything over from my Cortina pinto to a Sierra one. If that is possible, anything to look for in the Sierra engine (ie specific block markings etc)?

  21. Started by Relentless,

I’ve got a pinto running what I think is cbr600 carbs. What’s the best way to adjust these? Splutters and stops from cold unless run for some time

  22. Started by Relentless,

I’ve bought a 01 factory built Tiger this week and it’s got a 2.0 Pinto under the hood. Rocker gasket looks to have the common pinto leak. It has the original rocker cover that doesn’t look bent but what would people recommend in terms of gasket, bolts and tightness settings?

  23. Started by mickpond,

I am going to fit Yamaha R1 carbs to my 2L Pinto using a Danst inlet manifold. I did it on a previous RH and was impressed with the ease of setup and the instant throttle response. However, I have a very poor memory so could someone confirm or correct the following? I think that all I had to do to the carbs was drill out the main jets to 1.5mm. I then had to fit an electrically operated low pressure fuel pump producing 1 to 2psi. Job done. Thanks. Mick.

  24. Started by Tim Wright,

Hi all, Do any Superspec owners out there have a quick photo or description of how your fuel lines connect to the fuel pump. Im still using the original yellow and red feed lines which just push in to the fittings on the pump. Its been fine for the last 20 years but cant help wondering if anyone has discovered a better (safer!) way of connecting them, Thanks in advance

  25. Started by James Agg,

In all the time I’ve had my RH Series 2, it’s always taken a long time to start it when doing so from cold and yet when warm, it’s fine. I always attributed this to being something to do with carb balance or something up with the choke assembly… I have been helping a friend troubleshoot an issue with his Bentley Arnage where it seems to be suffering from fuel starvation on startup. Having looked extensively into the cause of the issue, the part in question is a dodgy non return valve in the fuel line shortly before the fuel filter. It was at this point that I suddenly had a brain wave… It dawned on me that mine was never built with a non return valve in the fue…
