Good evening all, Iโ€™m nee here so Iโ€™m sure this will be question one of many! thank you in advance ๐Ÿ˜‚ I have recently bought an exmo with a 2.0 pinto and on the drivers side to the rear (bulkhead end) of the engine I have a sensor thatโ€™s unplugged, as far as Iโ€™m aware the oil pressure sensor is N/S towards the back next to the pcv valve so any ideas what this rogue sensor is please? I can upload a pic tomorrow to clarify location. Its next to exhaust manifold about halfway down the block. My Haynes says oil pressure but I thought that was N/S?? Thanks James.

Gents , Can some one help, I have been scratching my head for some time with this issue, using longborders diagram which is how I have plumbed my pinto where would an expansion tank be connected as my radiator which is from a seat Marbella is a straight in/out with no cap so the tank is essential with this setup.

Hi. I've got a 2.0 Pinto in my Robin Hood. The car has had the original loom ripped out as it was butchered, and I am rewiring. It has an electronic ignition module fitted (make unknown, and the vac pipe blanked on the dizzy. It has the original Motorcraft ignition module. Regardless of what I do (having followed various wiring diagrams to check I have the wires correct, I cannot get a spark. I have 12v at the coil but yet no spark on cranking. Any ideas? Donor car was a 1985 Sierra GL if that makes a difference? Thanks in advance

  5. Hi, i am in the process of upgrading to twin dcoe Webberโ€™s from the single Webber carb on my Robin Hood S7 I have bought a second hand inlet manifold that fits fine but the hose tail that screws into the bottom of the manifold for the coolant hose is missing, I assumed I could use the original out of the standard Sierra/cortina manifold but the threads are too big so Iโ€™m trying to find one that is the right size, Itโ€™s a minefield trying to find one as the sizes are all so different, some say itโ€™s a BSP fitting others say NPT. All I know is that the hole in the manifold is approx 15mm inside diameter, the hose that fits onto the barbed hosetail is 16mm insi…

After lots more fettling we are getting close to sorting issues mentioned previously, however tonight I had it running and heard a rattle (metallic) from the front of engine unable to locate although I did find some play in water pump that I will replace I noticed cam belt on top pulley sat back but on the pulley bottom left sits forward ? Is this a major concern or some what normal ? Belt was replaced 2 weeks ago ! Is this a sign of play in one of the pulleys that could be the noise I can hear ?

Hello all. I have a standard 1.6 pinto and after a couple of miles it coughs and splutters back fires a couple of times and stops. Leave it til the next day and it starts first time but when driven itโ€™s stops again. The car only passed IVA last October so I havenโ€™t been far at all. Since this started I have: Changed the manual fuel pump for another. Filled the tank with new petrol (super) and put in an additive. Removed the old distributor and replaced with Bestek ignition system. Set the timing to 10 degrees as per Bestek instructions. New NGK spark plugs. New HT leads. Re Plumbed the fuel lines and taken out any sharp bends. Checked the diaphragm in the carb to see if …

  11. Hi folks. My Robin Hood Exmo has a 105 HP 2 litre Ford OHC engine. Standard, no (known) modification. When I bought the car, it was equipped with a 48IDF carburator. It took me ages to get that carb running decently. But I never managed to get good performance for lower rpm. The carburator is simply too big for that engine. Besides, the old 48s are old, worn and dirty. To get a little better performance in lower rpm, I decided to buy 44 IDF instead. However, I failed to get the carbs running until now. In my garage, reving the engine, I get the 44 IDFs running decently within a range of AFR 12 - 15. But on the road, under load, the engine shoots to lean the seco…

A bit of a story here so I will give as much info as possible in the hope of finding answers. Car is a Robin Hood 3a 1983 2.0 pinto pretty standard. I have done much work 2 weeks ago went out in the sun it drove perfect and was stunning fun. Went into the garage last week for MOT and couple of minor repairs steering and suspension only. It cut out on the MOT ramp. Struggled to start the following day they got it running but was lumpy on tick over. I went in to them yesterday with a timing light and we set timing to 10BTDC I was very confident in the timing and it ran and ticked over smooth as anything. Let it go cold fired her up first turn of the key no throttle or choke…

Hello I have a Pinto in my 2B with CBR1100 carbs on it and I am checking the setup. I have read a lot about blocking or restricting the air corrector jets but I am struggling to understand where they are located on the carbs I have. Can somebody help please? It is running lean at the moment and I wanted to test the air corrector theory before opening up the main jets. Thanks Graeme

I have recently replaced the fuel injection on my 2.0 pinto with two weber DCOE 40 12s. Its running horribly rich, and on tickover I can see fuel from one of the venturis dripping out. I have rechecked the float level, and fitted a filter king reducing the pressure to about 2.5 lbs PSI to no avail. HELP!!!

I have the attached throttle lever on a Weber carb with 8mm ball end. Could anyone suggest a throttle cable or attachment to fit this? The standard Ford is smaller and weirdly Webcon/Fast Road Cars etc who supply this part don't seem to have anything suitable. It is a standard Weber part but I'm pulling my hair out trying to find this!

Hi All, I have recently swopped out my old electronic distribution unit that I believe was an old Sierra one for a Bestek one. Everything is working great but now the tachometer does not give a reading. There were a few additional wires that were going into the old plug so I don't know if disconnecting those has caused the issue. Any ideas how to solve this or where to start? Cheers

  20. Whatโ€™s everyone done with their breathers when fitting bike carbs? hearing mixed options on just venting the crankcase to atmosphere and putting a little pod filter on the filler cap but then some people route both to a catch can, thoughts? ideally Iโ€™d prefer not to have a catch can to keep the engine bay tidier! But donโ€™t want to cause any issues, any help is much appreciated!

  23. Hi all, I have a 2B I've been fixing up over the last 5-6 months. I had a mobile mechanic who done some work but didn't know about bike carbs... Got them fitted and am at the point I have the car running but not comfortable doing the final carb set up required. It has a 2.0 pinto with CBR900 bike carbs and FR32 cam. The car starts fine and can tick over but a press of the accelerator causes a pop in the exhaust. Loads of pages out there saying its timing, it is rich, or lean, and that it can damage the engine, or that it won't. I'd just like to get someone who knows to get it set up right. I'm in Warwickshire (Leamington Spa) so any suggestions of people w…

Can anyone help with this ? Today I stripped a pinto head ready for rebuild, having acquired it from a reputable member as a 2 litre. But while working I thought ''what if it aint ? '' And I couldn't decide how to tell the difference. Can anyone tell me how to work out from the numbers or measurements if its 2 litre, or 1.6 or what ever.? please. Thanks in advance for any help. John.
