  4. Hi all, Where is the best place for a trolley jack to jack up the rear of the vehicle? And what PSI radiator cap would you need for a Pinto 1.6, I bought a 13PSI one but it seems a lot stronger spring than the original, Maybe the spring has weekend over time, but it is very noticable ... Thx in anticipation: Roger

HI, I bought a 2b a few years ago during the lock down and decided to rebuild the whole thing and put a St170. Started off with a working car now I have myself a pile of parts . Purchasing a complete focus St170 I have pulled out the engine and stripped this ready for cleaning up and prepping. This will be matted unto the type 9 Gearbox all been well. So my plan is to fit a new bell housing to the type 9 allowing the use of a Hydraulic clutch system. Now the engine will be RWD I suspect a dry sump will be require to stop the chance of oil starvation? I have also looked at a Throttle body kit from Dan st which seem to have some good feedback …

Hi all. Time to change my timing belt but a Google search has come up with nothing. Burtons no longer do them. I know the emax engine is a little rarer than most pintos but I can't believe the belt doesn't exist somewhere. Any suggestions please?

Hi all. I have to replace my head gasket on my 1.6 emax pinto. My fault after a short run having lost all the water from the bottom hose. I replaced it last year but can't find who I got it off. Definitely not ebay. Burtons don't stock it anymore. It was a victor reinz one. I'm sure someone on here mentioned the link but I can't find that. Lots of googling with no luck. Any clues anybody?

Hi guys, and girls, just wondering what popular fuel pumps people are using for injection supply. I am running a 2 ltr duratec on a high pressure pump from a swirl pot, supplied by a low pressure facet pump. Getting a little fed up by the continous clacking of the facet, and would like to go to a single in tank pump solution. I've heard that the fix is to fit a land rover pump, but I will surely need to open up the tank appature, with the associated dangers, also the work will be done with tank in, as to remove it is a major job. Any advise please?

Hi all Is this coil suitable for a 2liter pinto? https://simonbbc.com/Viper-Dry-Ignition-Coil-Sports-Lucas-DLB105-BLACK I'm not getting a spark and since I don't know the age or condition of the coil, thought I would get a new one. While I'm at it I'm going to change the leads as well. https://simonbbc.com/Ford-Pinto-OHC-HT-Leads-8mm-Double-Silicone#product-reviews Are these suitable? Thanks.

Hi all, I’ve decided to take the Saab engine and drivetrain out and going to bike engine instead in my locost. I have an R1 engine to fit, after dropping it into the engine bay sat on a block of wood it looks like I can mount it pretty centrally and square to the car and the prop will go down the tunnel nicely etc. However the only thing that’s confused me is I’ve seen quite a few picture of BECs with the engine mounted parallel to the outer frame rail not parallel to the centre of the car, is there a reason for this other than the propshaft alignment on different engines? just thought I’d see before making up the cradle and mounts f…

So, for every step of progress on my rebuild i seem to take two steps back! When my car (1.8 Zetec) runs the top radiator hose gets hot - I’m taking this to mean thermostat is working. However the radiator itself stays cold and the rad fan doesn’t come on - despite the engine approaching 100 i cracked the rad cap and coolant started to come out so the level is correct and it’s pressurising. Could this be as simple as airlock in the radiator? And if so any tips on how to cure it?

I have a Weber 30/34 DFTH and am looking for advice on which air filter to use. I've read that pancake filters inhibit performance but that foam filters can be a fire hazard (one thread on pistonheads so not sure if reliable). Doubt foam filters would be sold if dangerous though... Other threads have mentioned the Pipercross PX300 or Ramair RS2. I have about 50-60mm clearance to the bonnet and don't want to cut any holes. Any advice appreciated!

Some confusion on my behalf on which antifreeze to use. I am running a 1993 2litre silver top in my hood and went to halfords to buy some antifreeze. The booklet, and the sales guy suggested the OAT antifreeze but when I got home and did a check on line their search suggested Silicate. Have googled to try to understand the differences buy no clearer. My question is, is there any harm in putting in OAT instead of silicate or vice versa. Thanks

Evening all question from a newbie ! I have a digital oil pressure guage that was on car when I bought it last week it’s connected to the standard oil pressure switch so it doesn’t work presumably as the standard one operates a light and not a guage ? What can i use instead and where will i get one thanks in advance Darren 👍🏻

Hello again, I want to turn to you who know about these things for advice. I have acquired a Sierra based S7 with rear diff and Sierra steering but that’s it. I want to get an engine in to work around but I’m really stumped as to what to put in it. It will be both a track and a road car and obviously not my daily driver so I don’t mind if it is not the most comfortable to drive but I’d like it to be quick. At first I was going to go down the bike engine route, I like the revs and gearbox. Then I had an offer of a V6 Essex but that fell through, now I’m considering a Zetec Blacktop. The weight of the engine affecting steering is a concern. I think …

Hi all, help! so I’ve got a 2b running a 2.0 Pinto (205) Efi engine. it did seem to run ok, but boiled a lot. So I have replaced the rad with a nice shiny cooler one. problem is, since then it refuses to run properly. took it for a brief run on Monday, let idle up to temp before I started. It ran fine for a couple of minutes, then appeared to have a loss of power in 4th and 5th. Eventually ground to a halt on me engine would turn on the starter, it’d catch, but then sound like it wasn’t getting fuel. Put some more petrol (in case it was the gauge and I was out) but it just wouldn’t run. eventually sound the distributor cap appeared lose …

  21. Hello everyone. I just wanted to run past you all an issue I’m having with starting my Robin Hood Mark 2 running a 2.0l Pinto engine from an ‘83 Sierra. Basically, since I’ve owned the car (coming up on 2 years now), it has often been sluggish to start. I think that on the whole, it prefers starting when the engine is warm, which I would expect, but this isn’t necessarily always the case - it’s a bit random. When it’s driving, I notice that if you put your foot down, there’s a little cough before it then decides to open up relatively cleanly through the Rev range, so I’m thinking distribution or carb balance need checking. It’s running a Weber 32/36 (presumabl…

I've just bought an engine to replace my lackluster 185 pinto and trying to establish if the head is an injection type. I've heard that the inlet ports are egg shaped on injection, but I'm not sure if mine is or not...I'm hoping it is, but not sure if I'm trying to convince myself that they are oval shaped or not? Can anyone help identify this? Are these oval or am I going cross-eyed?
